  1. I just met Jason a couple weeks ago, super nice guy. I think everyone at his shop plus a few spouses have back pieces in progress from him. One cool thing was I walked in and he was calling a bunch of bay area people with work in progress giving them his travel plans and a heads up on his schedule in Portland if they wanted to make a trip up. For a guy that is in high demand he seems to deal with it well and find ways for people to get tattooed without waiting too long.
  2. The ectasy frying her brain probably has a lot to do with that, but nothing wrong with partyin a little while you are young I guess, and her blacklight tattoo, will be the equivalent to 90's armband tattoo that a lot of people regret.
  3. Just another way for people who don't like tattoos but want to "be tattooed" to do so , one step below white ink tattoos. Honestly I haven't heard any one speak about Blacklight tattoos in a couple of years, and usually just someone with no tattoos tagging along with a friend who is getting tattooed to ask questions about tattoos.
  4. I have kind of become a fan of her stuff lately as well. I have met her a few times, but never put two and two together who she was till a convention last year I attended. I would get tattooed by her or Ms Mikki any day. - - - Updated - - - I can't stress enough if someone who wants a piece of tattoo history seek out Dave Lum for a tattoo, he has threatened to quit for some time now, but still seems to be willing to put on tattoos for now. His stuff is as good as ever and he is forty five min drive outside of Portland.
  5. I got to a tattoo shop with all hand painted flash and look around till I find something i want or I a ask them if they have any sheets in progress with new stuff I might be interested in. When I travel or go to convention I usually make a couple line drawings of little fun things I know will fit, If they change the design a little, I don't mind, I just like to be prepared. I know for a lot of people it can't be that simple, but it's worked for me so far.
  6. You don't have to hove as much as just ease yourself on the seat, I think the back of my knee swelling up was/is the worst part of healing back of thigh tattoo. For the record Dickies work pants are my healing tattoo pant of choice. Jeans are okay but just a little tougher to get on.
  7. I was also going to suggest Frank William, he does nice stuff for sure and worked at Tim's shop before he moved to Chicago Tattoo Company full time.
  8. Ed Hardy and I would say it all depends on your perspective but they are all arguably the best at what they do. Also one thing I would point out is I know I judge Nunez by a lot of stuff that he put out from the Miami Ink show almost a decade ago, and I am sure being on a show gets you some harsher critiques, but still don't think he is quite there.
  9. Get the guy who did the jimi Hendrix portrait and wrote Bob Marley below it to do it.
  10. Exactly you could live in small town with one tattooer, but the bet is there is a slightly bigger town within 20 miles with at least one good tattooer in it and probably a big city within 100 miles with many good tattooers. I don't know, for me the shop is more important than the tattooer in some ways. Sure I want to get tattooed by good tattooers, but if the shop doesn't have the right vibe then it's kind of a bummer. I want the shop to seem accessible and inviting to hang out in, and look like a tattoo shop with hand painted signs and flash on the wall. , but I guess it's a catch 22 because most of the people I would want to be tattooed by want to work in shops like that.
  11. There's nothing wrong with bringing in a printed copy of this, shit it's flash if you got this exact tattoo I don't think there would be anything wrong with it, but if you have to redraw it anyway, might as well improve on it. I am sure whoever drew it was inspired by someone else's flash and drew his own version, and probably the person he copied it from did the same thing with someone else's flash. The design is old and classic and out there it's just a matter of people making it their own.
  12. I looked up the shop and they say they are in Sherman oaks/van nuys , but all I could find is a couple of dumb things and a yelp profile that says they are closed. Plus I don't think I would call a shop and ask about flash on the wall, or I guess I would assume that they would tell me to come in and look for myself.
  13. I don't think it's Chad Koeplinger just cause the name looks too short when it is blown up and Chad doesn't sign his name that way, but anything is possible. But I am pretty sure that was drawn by a Spaniard looking at the style, but thought maybe it was for Chad K or something like that. BTW what are these videos supposed to be about. There is another one about putting on temporary tattoos with with a paintbrush, I don't know about all that stuff. The flash is nice, but that is straight busch league stuff.
  14. This is a good one from the Revisited Flash from the past book, from a few years back off of the original flash by Fred Maurquand.
  15. I think traditional tattoos are more mainstream than Japanese, but that might be something that varies by region, but for me it comes down to this, if someone mentions Traditional American tattooing, Oliver Peck is likely to come up in the conversation fairly quickly. I don't see that happening with Nunez and Japanese tattooing. I don't know if it's because there are so many people doing it, but for whatever reason I don't think he is that conversation. I think he clearly is a professional and keeps pretty good company, just haven't heard much about him outside conversations about the show's he has been on. '
  16. Does it say Chad Kopelinger on the side? My vision is not the best but I am about pretty sure that is says Chad and the last name starts with a K.
  17. Maybe it's because I joined the Instagram recently, but seems like just a steady stream of these profiles about girls and guys with tattoos. I try to be good about following people who follow us, so I see this stuff in my feed. With all the things I said before intact don't you think people should have to have more than a handful of tattoos to be considered a tattoo model, also it would probably help if the tattoos were showing instead of just a close up of someone cleavage or some dude's six pack abs and the tiniest portion of a tattoo in the corner of the picture. Do you really need to be nude to show off your wrist tattoo, I mean I appreciate the female form as much as the next guy, maybe more than the next guy, but the idea of modeling is kind of a joke when every 20 something who takes a self portrait with their IPhone is being featured as a "model" .
  18. Got this outlined the other day, by Josiah Laughlin at Imperial Tattoo, Going to do a big mum on the ass cheek, maybe a hannya on the other cheek, back of knee not very fun, but glad that part is done.
  19. I have had two sessions done on my back in the last two weeks in fact three days apart, and the only after care I have used is washing the tattoo twice the first two days with soap and water and then just showering normally, and I have had no scabs and the tattoos are basically healed. I also got from the back of my knee to bottom of butt cheek outlined and background done, used same method and seems to be healing fine and this is day 4.
  20. The boss's wife has a basket of fruit tattooed across her stomach, with bugs and flies crawling all over it, it was done like 96 by Chris Conn, pretty amazing. - - - Updated - - - IMO you always have to outline in black, and with the small space you are trying to fill, don't think there would be much room for color. It really is a rough idea, and maybe filagree itself might not be the best, but some sort of pattern that can start and stop in different spots and doesn't really need symmetry, but you know your tattooer might have a better idea who knows. Also I would squeeze as many tattoos into the empty spaces before doing background.
  21. Yeah I looked and I think it would be so weird you tattoos are so definite, they are bold and colorful, but the linework and style is so precise and water is more of a free form background, I think it would be hard to match that up, the first thought that comes to mind is filigree or framework, or just more tattoos.
  22. Okay I am slow, It was REverends Dragon, but that is generally how I would approach background in Japanese, not neccesarily Traditional, although again it can work with any style. Water is kind of weird idea for background, but if i saw the tattoo it might make sense.
  23. I saw your dragon, and looks like a nice tattoo. Where is the neo traditional rose, and what is a neo tradtional rose? Are you talking about the ones drawn to look more open and stylized vs what a real rose looks like, I see a lot of people drawing them like that, they look pretty cool. I think the water would be a good background, I only saw the pic for a second, but is the dragon going to stay black and grey or are you going to do color. Usually if you do color in tattoo, you go with more black background and vice versa, but anything can work.
  24. Do you have any general ideas for upcoming tattoos? I can tell you what people are going to suggest, Panthers, Eagles, Roses, and Lady Heads, which if you are good with that you are in the right place, but if it's not your thing a little insight into your ideas might help get the ball going.
