New Russ Abbott Book on Kickstarter.

Reminds me of this character on SNL -
I will believe that when you stop posting about your new tattoos everyday:rolleyes:

@else you are on an unstoppable run. I want to be you when I grow up. I had a session the other day hoping to finish my dragon head, but my body was not cooperating, had a big nosebleed early in day and couldn't stop bleeding while getting tattooed. I have been a bleeder before, but never like this. So long story short I have to come back and do a few spots and possibly some touch up on last session.

Sharing information about general pricing rates as written by tattooer probably okay, but speculating about what others might charge or steering the conversation towards trying to find someone cheaper (even someone is own shop) probably not the way threads should go. I wouldn't discuss price, but since it's out there, Kore is fast, you probably still get more tattoo for your buck, even if his rate is higher you might end up with less time in chair to get the tattoo done and a better looking tattoo than some other places that charge less, especially if waiting is not the issue.

March 2013 Tattoo of the Month Contest
David Flores replied to slayer9019's topic in LST Announcements & Contests
Just for fun going to post a panther snake combo I got done last year by Manee Friday right here in Portland. -
Seriously? We don't have many gangs in Portland, but most gang members I come across are just kids, who sling dope, because they don't want a job where someone tells them what to do. I am not saying they aren't joining, but is it really to become some upper gang member, or do they just reach the point in there lives where they are either over the gang and have no education or marketable skills.

Most painful spot to get tattooed
David Flores replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
This has to be the worst thread to read the day before a tattoo session. I am getting from ass to back of knee colored in tommorrow. Back of knee sucked for outline and black and right below ass was pretty tender.- 1,060 replies

Ever been called a tattoo snob?
David Flores replied to lving4today's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
next time suggest neon sunglasses. Yeah I usually don't give design advice outside shop, for some reason it just feels more comfortable critiquing an idea in a tattoo shop, I just tell them they should come in and we can talk about it, and I feel if I can get people in the door and show them how cool a tattoo can be, there's more of a chance of leading them away from a bad idea. Still always shocked at what people think are good ideas for tattoos. -
the so called "worlds worst tattoo" fixed
David Flores replied to YOMONEY's topic in Worst Tattoo EVER!
In all fairness, dude probably isn't in to tattoos just wanted that one for his wife. It's not like he was going to cover it with a dragon or a panther. Even considering that the tattoo couldn't get any worse, I think the outcome was pretty good for the guy. To paraphrase Joe Dirt, It's not about you, it's about the consumer. -
Etiquette for multiple concurrent tattoos
David Flores replied to slayer9019's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Often I end up spending more time dealing with customers than the person tattooing them up until the day of their appoinment, one time I wasn't there the day someone was getting tattooed and they asked where i was. My boss told him I was getting tattooed across town. He responded by asking him why I didn't want him to tattoo me and wondered if my boss was cool with that he said, I already tattooed him this week and like 50 other times. He told me as long as I don't get tattooed by hacks he doesnt mind. I can relate to feeling weird, there is one shop that one guy always bugs me about getting more tattoos from him, but I really want to get tattooed by the other guys he works with and don't have that much space, so to avoid that scenario I don't get tattooed there, or i guess I have to wait till he is guest spotting somewhere. Most tattooers aren't like that though. -
Etiquette for multiple concurrent tattoos
David Flores replied to slayer9019's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I don't understand what the issue would be, unless you are getting big tattoos the day before and it's causing you to tap out early during long sessions or like mentioned before if you cancel or reschedule appointments and then come in with a bunch of new tattoos. -
where did the tattooers go?
David Flores replied to Shannon Shirley's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I can only speculate, but most of the people who have gone, have had things happen in their life that make their life a lot busier. A lot of people have gotten married and or had kids (grandkids), some people have become much more in demand as a tattooer, others have other projects that occupy their time. I agree that the dynamic has become the same as the tattoo shop, and that is why I usually am on in the morning and not so much at night. Usually someone has sucked the life out of me by the time I get home from the shop, and i am done talking about tattoos for the day. -
Tattoo shop selling supplies to scratchers
David Flores replied to Delicious's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Yikes, that's not good. I don't know if I would be supporting that business in any way, shape, or form. I wouldn't be concerned enough to do anything about it, but probably would make sure they made $0 of me. Realistically their supply practices don't necessarily reflect their level of ability to put on a tattoo or pierce, but all the money goes into keeping that shop open. -
When i bought the ripped shirt I have, had a ticket stub from the movie Cast Away (2001) , maybe if I left it in there it wouldn't have ripped.

I am guessing she got the bird fourth pic down, of the recent pics that would fit @else best, because of the color scheme and it's not a tattoo on a guy's chest like many of the others. That skull in the first pic, tough.

Tattoo pictures, forums, photo-harvesting blogs and ethics
David Flores replied to RoryQ's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Other than this site and TAM site, I only really see tattoo photos on Instagram or Facebook, from the tattooers or shop's blog/site doing the tattoo. I don't see any reason to use other tattoo sites. The photos I share on this forum, are my photos in the sense that I either took them myself, they are tattoos on me, or they are tattoos from our shop, in which I have been given free reign to promote. Their have been a few times I have used other people's work as examples, but usually limit that to people I know personally and the more and more i see the bigger picture, the less I share of that stuff. I think this site works because people are looking to promote good tattooing and do so here and through their blogs. Their are so many other sites, facebook pages, instragram profiles that are just looking gain followers in the hopes of being able to at some point sell ad space on a blog, recycling others hard work. The other thing I would point out is most people when they are looking at blogs or sites, aren't there to appreciate the tattoo, in fact most of the people will praise every piece of dogshit anyone posts. I feel like people just use these sites to yank designs, but i mean that will happen to any picture on the internet and that is a whole different discussion with me. I guess what it comes down to for me, is if I get a tattoo I might post it here, my facebook, and instagram (but maybe not) and I will let the tattooer submit it to other sites if they choose to do so. -
Tattoo shop selling supplies to scratchers
David Flores replied to Delicious's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
So how did you ascertain that they would sell supplies to anyone? Did you try to buy something? I guess it's not really that important what they do, but I know a few tattoo supply companies that also operate shops and keep inventory on hand for tattooers that stop by. It's not that hard for me to believe that people are dumb enough to sell supplies to general public, but at the same time it is. -
Vegan Tattoo Education: Vegan Aftercare Products Their is a list of vegan aftercare products here, I can't speak of the effectivness, but maybe some forum members that have used them can. I still think calling a tattoo reputable tattoo shop like scapegoat that markets themselves to vegan tattoo customers might be worth a try. But I also didn't think about the customer having laser work done.
-
I always use a vegan aftercare. Method hand soap and hot water. Just like I tell people not to buy anything special for aftercare, I am sure whatever moisturizer they use on a daily basis would work. Or call one of the shops that are vegan and ask their opinion.

San diego tattoo artists/tattoo shops
David Flores replied to majorpenalty's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I don't know, all those guys do black and grey, portraits of celebrities or bio-mech in Roman's case. I think it would be way more the OP's speed to book ahead and get a tattoo from Honkey Kong at Guru, or Micah or Rob at Flying Panther, or Alessio or Denny at Avalon. -
i Bet @Ursula would be a good person to make those. Plus she is an OG to the forum so she would have to be in our club.

I don't think their is a right direction after you tattoo your whole face.
