Yes they do it here in Australia too. I think the motives for doing them are different between conventions and this show though. I mean a timed tattoo competition where the winner is judged by "celebrity" guest judges such as Chris Anderson (NBA player) for a huge wad of cash is different to how it would appear to be at a convention?

@RoryQ, Chad is quick alright. The consequence of that is he is very heavy handed. He did a shoulder piece on me and I bled like I was a stab wound victim. Got some pretty funny looks on the public transport after!!

I've got some orange and yellow flowers in my piece from Steve just like those. Great piece would be honoured to have it.

You should try living in Australia!! I'm not knocking the quality of artists here because we have some amazing talent across all styles but it seems in the states from what I read on here, everywhere you go there is a top echelon of shops or artists that are really good at accomodating customers. Lucky people!! (:

Next year hopefully I can make the trip to America to Smith St. (and possibly others). Don't have any real thoughts on what I want, just like to be tattooed by everyone at the shop.
