  1. I'm going for at least one of the days, probably Saturday. No appointments yet...
  2. Andrew Stortz has a new podcast, BOOKS CLOSED, about the Internet and how it has changed tattooing. It's an interview series that has, so far, featured Chad Koeplinger, Jason Scott, Todd Noble and Chris O'Donnell. Pretty damn interesting.
  3. Damn, I just saw this. I swung through Idle Hand later in the afternoon and got an Ace of Spades from Gary Royal. Also stopped by Jill's shop around 6, it looks great and everyone there is very nice. Next time! Steve
  4. Hey I'll be in SF tomorrow too! Also hoping to make it to Idle Hand for Still Not Asking For It. I'm due for a beer with some friends in the Mission later but am not sure what time that will be yet. Jill Bonny's new shop in the Haight is open for walkins tomorrow too... lots happening!
  5. Damn that's awesome!
  6. Looks like I'm going Sunday this time...

    Tattoo meaning?

The words seem to spell out part of the famous quote from J.R.R. Tolkien that "Not all those who wander are lost", probably meaning that the guy wearing it enjoys traveling. That would go with the map and compass theme. But they made a pretty bad mistake spelling the word "wander" with an O instead of an A, and now it doesn't really make any sense. If you want to get something similar, make sure they spell it correctly.
  8. Sweeeeet! One of these days...
  9. Oh man, I saw the tiger thing earlier today and it's awesome! Chad Koeplinger's comment on it on instagram seems to sum it up. Really cool one.
  10. You plan vacations and choose destinations around getting tattooed.
  11. That looks great! I really like that it's not just a coverup, but an homage to the original. Very cool.
  12. The lineup for this looks really killer. Maybe next year...
  13. Man, I wish! Maybe next year.
  14. I'll be there again, barring unforeseen circumstances. Probably just Saturday.
  15. Finished this one with the incredibly talented Kahlil Rintye at Tattoo City here in SF. It came to me in a dream of strange cities.. Cthulhu Rock of Ages, complete with fish-lady from Innsmouth wearing her sacred tiara. Photos don't do it justice. If you ever decide you need a large tattoo, I wholeheartedly recommend Kahlil for the job.
  16. Your own comfort aside, it's not going to be an issue. There is no way an accidental wipe with an inky towel over your fresh tattoo will have any effect.
  17. What a coincidence, I've also started to listen to No Lies, Just Bullshit. Like you, the first episode I listened to was the Everence one, with many good points made, and a lot of good insight from those guys. Also really enjoyed Annette LaRue's interview, and the ones with Brian Bruno and Jeremy Swed. Nick seems to have a gift for interviewing, so I'm looking forward to listening to the rest of them.
  18. +1, not phallic. I think it looks very close to the reference you provided. If I were you I'd give it some time and don't mess with it for a while

    I took my first tattoo

This is normal. Until it's fully healed it will look faded. You won't really know how it's going to look for months.
  20. It was only a matter of time. Over the last week there have been more than a few posts on Instagram, and probably other places, naming a few fairly prominent tattooers as being disgusting creeps and serial sexual predators. I won't name them here as I'm not interested in getting sued, but if you follow the accounts "watchdogtattoos" "how_to_not_get_tattooed" "prettytoughtattoos" (Dawn Cooke) or "shitwishtattoos" (Jon Larson) you'll see some of what has come out recently, most of which seem to be from customers. Being a largely macho, male-dominated field, I'm sure sexual harassment has been a widespread problem for a long time, but I'm glad that people are feeling safe enough to share their accounts of what happened to them. It's truly sickening. Many of the posts they make are in their Instagram Stories, since they are ephemeral and disappear after a day or so.
  21. Going in for the last session on a really cool piece from Kahlil Rintye in a couple of weeks.
  22. No photo but I got a kickass crawling panther from Moses at Black Heart a few weeks ago. There's a photo on the shop instagram account. Panthers are awesome.
  23. Great meeting you Dan! Had a lot of fun that Saturday.
