  1. Hey all, I don't know about you, but when I visit a new city, one of my first thoughts is, "I wonder who is killing it in this town?" So I'll be in Minneapolis for a few days at the end of September, and I was wondering if anyone out there has any suggestions on some tattoo shops to check out. Thanks!
  2. I would recommend Steve Morris at Bodyworks tattoo in Pittsburgh. https://instagram.com/stevemorristattoo
  3. If anyone has a pic of that Dan Santoro Japanese sleeve, please post it!
  4. Thanks Joe! I'll definitely check those guys out.
  5. Hi everyone, I'm looking for an artist that specializes in Japanese tattoos. I live in Pittsburgh and am willing to travel a few hours (by car). I do know there are a lot of amazing artists in NYC, but that is at least a 6 hour drive. I'd like to keep it under 3 if possible. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks!
  6. Yeah, it's definitely important to keep it clean and not to overreact. Mine usually take two weeks to fully heal. Welcome!
  7. Yeah it would awesome if you posted your progress. Are you going to start with the back or get the whole thing outlined?
  8. Another consideration would have to be Chris Garver's waiting list. Does anyone have any idea how long it might be?
  9. Welcome, SF is a very cool town. Last time I was there I got a shirt from Tattoo City.
  10. My tattoo artist likes to do all the black first (outline and shading). That way when you're picking out the colors you have a better idea what will pop and what might fade into the background.
  11. I've actually never heard of the date you get tattooed having special meaning. You should focus more on the artist and the design. If both of those are right, then the day you get tattooed will be special.
  12. I also just had the top of my shoulder touched up last week (mikiri and green leaves). My tattooer says the top of the shoulder can get angry (red) easily, so they probably grind in there a little less. One touch up is enough!
  13. This tattoo was reworked by Wayne Urvin at Timeless Tattoo (closed) in Bakerstown Pa in 1996. Originally it was a winged eyeball holding a dagger that was handpoked by my friend Nathan in 1989. Not long after, he got a tattoo machine and slammed on a very rough tribal skull. Incidentally the handpoked “Tex” below the skull was my first tattoo ever which Nathan did on me back in 1988. It immortalizes a very short-lived nickname.
  14. This tattoo is a tribute to my grandfather. He was a WWII vet and had a vintage 1940’s heart and dagger on his inner forearm as well. I added the wings and banner to mine. I remember when I was a kid thinking his tattoos were the coolest. He also had a girl’s name on his chest from before he met my grandmother! Haha, taught me to not get girl’s names tattooed on you because you never know. This one was done in 2006 by Cliff Maynard at Angry Moon Tattoo (closed) in Pgh.
  15. I hope it works out for you. My cousin just moved to Brooklyn, and the next time I'm there I'd love to stop in SST to get a classic Rose/Mom tattoo. Also, checking out Black Gold Records is a must. Good luck.
  16. I got this tattoo when my wife and I were in Hawaii in 2013. I don’t have to tell you about the rich tattoo history of Hawaii, so of course I wanted a souvenir tattoo. After visiting a couple not-so-great-tourist-shops, we found Atomic Tattoo in Maui. My artist was Leilani, and I thought she did a great job with the design I brought in. The 9 hour plane ride back home with a sore ankle kind of sucked though!

  21. Have you had work done by this artist in the past? or Are you stoked to get work done by them? If so, I would definitely wait a bit to switch artists, at least until you call. If not, check out a few more shops. Maybe you'll get a better vibe elsewhere.
  22. Hello all, Well this looks like a promising site! I love talking tattoos, but I've always felt a bit restricted because most of my friends aren't into it like I am. Time to make some tattooed friends! I'm very into the Japanese style (I like many other styles though), and I've recently been getting tattoos from Jason Lambert at Black Cat Tattoo in Pittsburgh. I look forward to the talks! Thanks, Jim
