Thanks for the comment. Just trying to work a lot and keep busy. I have a great friend who helps me which helps a lot.

Hey guys, I doubt there is another thread like this but if so I apologize. My girlfriend just broke up with me after dating each other for over 3 years. Really really sucks but I will be alright. Any tips for what you guys do after a relationship ends? Anything you guys do that make it any easier? My girlfriend has gone through a lot the past year with a death in the family as well as a divorce so I understand it has been hard on her but I just didn't expect this to happen. She calls it a break so I am still somewhat hopeful that things will turn around. Any tips would be great guys

I have looked at tattoos from Rick Lohm. I also looked at getting a tattoo from Chris Chisholm from Halo as well but he never got back to me. Do you have any other work from Lohm?

Got my first tattoo booked for May 24th with Nik Moore at Scarab Body Arts. Can't wait!

Thanks for the comments guys the consult went really well! He is going to send me 4 completed drawings this week to see what I think and my appointment to get tattooed is in the middle of May!

Hey guys, I have my first ever tattoo consult tomorrow to get my first tattoo! I am getting it done by Nik Moore from Scarab Body arts in Syracuse, NY. This might be a stupid question but is there anything in particular I should do for the consult? I am obviously going to bring pictures of what I want and references to certain pieces that are similar to what I would like to get. I contacted him and I am giving him a $100 deposit tomorrow for when I schedule my appointment date. Any input would be appreciated. I am just not sure if I am supposed to do something in particular that I wouldn't normally think of. I am nervous but at the same time am very excited to take the first step into getting my first ever tattoo!

Where in NY are you from? I live in Upstate NY in the Utica area.

Thank you for the comment. I more or less just like the look of this one not the size. I am planning on having it quite a bit bigger but don't want it to be too big.

Planning on getting my first tattoo hopefully before summer starts. If not I will be getting it in the fall. I think I am going to get a deer skull and antlers on my chest or back. Me and my father are huge hunters and I thought it would be cool to get my first buck tattooed on me to remember that day. I am thinking about doing something like this one. Any opinions on this?

Recommendation for Shops in Syracuse/Upstate NY Area
tacifone replied to tacifone's topic in Tattoo Advice
Where abouts are you from? I'm actually just south of Utica but I just put Syracuse on there since it is a more common city. And thank you for the reply. Who from Scarab tattooed you? I have been looking at Nik Moore's work from there and it is pretty impressive. -
Recommendation for Shops in Syracuse/Upstate NY Area

Thanks everyone. And I know I am definitely over thinking this whole process, its just a big step for me and want to make sure I do it right. I actually sent Nik Moore from Scarab an email about a week ago regarding a possible consultation to talk about a tattoo and he did not even respond to me. I am not sure if it is normal for an artist to take that long or not but it seemed unprofessional to me. Hope that doesn't offend anyone. If it is normal for an artist to take that long than I completely understand but I would think they would try and check their emails. It said he tattoos three or four days a week and to email him for any questions. I am going to try and set up a consult with Halo within the next few weeks to talk things over with them. -
Hi guys, I am pretty new to the forums here and have been reading a lot of posts. I currently have no tattoos but for the past few years have really wanted to get my first tattoo of my family crest. I live in the Syracuse NY area and was wondering if any of you guys have any recommendations for any good shops near by. I have talked to a few members on here and have heard good things about Halo Tattoo and Scarab Body Arts both of which are in Syracuse. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys, Tyler

Thank you for the response Graeme. Your comment makes a lot of sense. I know that it's not going to feel great but in the end I will hopefully have an awesome tattoo that will be well worth it!

Thanks for all the input guys. I have a tough decision to make regarding the placement now haha. I like the idea of a shoulder tattoo but I still seem to think it would look odd on me since I am kind of small, 5'11" and only 148 pounds. My chest is a little bigger though so I think it would look a little better there, but since its my first I'm not sure if I want to dive right into a pretty painful first tattoo. I still have time to think but in the end I still think chest would look best on me.
-
I'd love to know how that tattoo turns out for ya and how it feels while getting done. I was thinking my right pec right in between my collar bone and my nipple. Your idea of a shoulder tattoo is a good option I have never really thought of. At least I know exactly what I want as a design, and where I want to go to get it done. The only thing I need to figure out now is where to put it on my body.
-
Thanks so much for the input guys! I am really leaning towards chest now. I want something that can easily be covered and like you guys said if its on my chest at least I will be able to see it everyday. Back to the arm thing, I would like an arm tattoo but like I said I have scrawny arms and am also worried about it sticking out past a shirt. I know I could most likely cover it with a t shirt, but I am looking for jobs in the law enforcement/environmental conservation fields and I know they are very serious about not having any visible tattoos. Another thing: I feel like I have a fairly high pain tolerance, at least I would like to think that haha. I am not worried about the pain of the tattoo a whole lot because of it being part of the experience and I will appreciate it more after the pain. For those who know, is the pain of a chest tattoo near you peck pretty bad or is it one of the better places to start?
-
That's cool that your tattoo represents your grandparents. I am kind of going for the same thing with a crest to represent my grandfather and to honor my family
-
I would do it on my bicep but my arms aren't quite big enough haha. I am a pretty scrawny person. Trying to bulk up a little bit but for now I don't think an arm tattoo would look too good on me. - - - Updated - - - And do you guys think my chest would be a better place for a first tattoo compared to my back between the shoulder blades?
-
I am also new to the forums. That's cool that you went for a placement like that for your first tattoo. Hopefully going to get my first in a few months.
-
I'm thinking of a traditional style family crest on my chest most likely but I might do it on my upper back. Leaning towards chest though. I think its a good piece for me to start with to honor my family and my grandfather.
-
Good luck with it man! Would love to see some pictures of it once you start it. I am really looking into what shop I am going to go to in the Upstate NY area. I am talking back and forth with a fellow member on who is really pointing me in the right direction of some good shops in my area
-
What do you guys think of getting a tattoo in say the month of may? It isn't too nice here in Upstate NY yet and is also somewhat far enough away from the dead of summer where I would think the tattoo should be somewhat healed up by then
-
Thanks for the comments guys. I can already tell that this forum is a very welcoming community unlike some of the other forums I have been on for various things. I am sure I will learn a lot and maybe some day I can help others on here if I learn enough about the art of tattooing.
