So here is my progress. I promised myself a big bright sleeve as my entrance into your world. This is it after 2 sittings, about 5 hours total.
I love it and can't wait for my next sitting which isn't until September. The plan is for a full sleeve of flowers and critters and stuff. The lilly will be getting coloured in next. Humming birds and butterflies to follow.

Spend yesterday afternoon in the chair of Jan Willem (@janwillemtattoo) in Rotterdam. Drew a Peony on my elbow ditch with this as the result: 

Pretty stoked on the end result!

I've used Cocoa Butter, too......but my Labs love the smell and constantly try to lick it off my arm.

Second session down! Did want to sit for longer but the heavy shading over the spine did me in for the day. 4 and a half hours here. Definitely feeling better now that the majority of lining is done (although more on the thighs later, but the shoulders are blocked out and it's starting to look more like a backpiece now. Knowing what to expect in what area as far as pain definitely helped make the sit easier and go by quicker.
 

5 weeks is not even healed yet,I think you are looking at it too closely !
relax,let it heal for a few more months,and possibly see if it might need a minor touch-up,
otherwise,enjoy it,
IMO it looks pretty good.

@Morrigan its all good - only your mother has any control over her emotional state and perspectives - I'm 45 and my father doesnt like my tattoos - though he wont say as much to me - you gotta live your life and do what works for you - partly i think there is a generational issue at play - if it was me - i'd be straight forward - 'mom i love you and you dont have to love my tattoos but your frustrations with what i do with body wont have any influence on what i will continue to do with my body' - end of story

i get a few awkward looks, i work in an industry dominated by the older generation.
 
Once at an exhibition a guy came up to me and said i could never be successful at my job because tattooed arms. After some conversation he warmed to me, opened an account with my company and now trades with me monthly. He has since tried to poach me from my current employer. I like to think he takes a different view on people with tattoos now.

I finally had my rib piece finished after 3 years. It feels good to be able to start on new tattoos. Done by Luke Kehoe (except the ribbon, just touched up by him). I didn't want to cover the ribbon, so we added things around it.

I was just reading this thread and realized that I don't think I've ever put a picture of my little snake on here. It is very different from the rest of what's on this thread, but I love how it sits on my arm. Ron Wells did it a year ago. Both tattoos I have from him feature a lot of solid black and are sort of stealth tribal. Sorry about the bathroom photo.

Not sure if I posted in this thread yet. But this is my lion chest piece when just done. I really like it now after several months.

Added this one tonight from Jonathan Montalvo. What a genuinely good dude. 

Alice by Jennifer Lawes at Pearl Harbor - this may have been my easiest tattoo ever. 

My thigh pieces (more side of thigh for them both). first one by Sam Smith when she was visiting the UK. I think about 5.5hrs one hit. Healed perfectly in 3 days despite being in a car crash where I rolled my car 3x and wrote it off on my way home from the shop. 

Second one, my beautiful big red kitty from Stu Pagdin. One hit - 6hrs. I took the train. This one was more of a tricky heal, got some lovely scabs but I think he's got a heavier hand. I love to collect but I'd be covered in Stu's work if he lived in the UK. I just love it! 

It's easy to say people are dumb or cheap or whatever, but there's got to be more to it than that. Can they really not tell the difference between good and bad tattoos? Do they not know where to look for good artists or even what to look for? Do they just not care? I'm not even talking about little Pinterest tattoos or a few words of script, which can be done well. I mean scratcher-level badness.

There is a 3th option. Not covering it. However, try to wash it atleast every 10 hours 

I got my second tattoo yesterday on my inner bicep. It's a realistic (black & gray) hourglass with the words "Memento Mori" written in the upper part of the hourglass board. All in all it was a great experience, though it was a little more painful than my first tattoo. It is also a little swollen but the skin on the inner bicep is tender, so that's should be expected. Thanks to Eric Rignall from Inkstop Tattoo in NYC!
