  1. I agree that their names (probably) won't change, and your own children are exempt from any "no name tattoo" rules. If you like tattoos of words, just get their names. (And maybe leave room so your third child doesn't feel left out ;) ) This is my tattoo "for my son". If I got it based on his interests, I'd have Blues Clues, a tank, a monster truck, or any one of a million video game images. It doesn't have his name either. I know his name. :) This is a wood sorrel, and in the language of flowers it means "joy and maternal tenderness." But beyond "what it means", I have a tattoo I really like.
  2. What do your kids like? Boys, girls? Are their names already images, like Hunter or Iris?
  3. I took my son to one of the better shops in town, and paid for his first tattoo. I made him wait until he turned 18, even though we can do it earlier in our state. We've talked about keeping tattoos in areas he can cover until he knows for sure what he will be doing for a living. I got my first tattoo at the same time, so we did the whole experience together.
  4. I teach a class for 11 - 18 year old olds. We have a YHEC team that we take to State and International every year.
  5. Amsterdam gets a lot of guest artists. If your timing is good, your dream artist might come to you.
  6. Look at some blast overs. They sometimes wind up looking really cool with the old color poking through.
  7. I don't remember exactly what was on the form, but the Yes and No overlapped on the electronic one I had to do, so I clicked Yes for everything :o I had to ask my husband about this topic. I thought he didn't really care, but now I know. He really doesn't care one way or the other about my tattoos. He said sitting through the one he came along for was kind of neat, and kind of boring. I know he'll never get a tattoo, or ride a roller coaster, or enjoy swimming in the ocean. So I do that stuff on my own or with my son.
  8. I thought I was taking a break, but then a guy I really admire came to town. He had an open spot and I got another tattoo. Now that tattoo has started a themed collection, so I'm trying to plan the next one. Honestly, I've thought about some of these tattoos since I was a teenager. I just didn't get them for twenty-five years.
  9. I am usually not putting it on my healed tattoo specifically, but I always do my legs and shoulders after a shower. That's pretty much going to hit my tattoos. I'll be the same way with sunscreen in the summer. I use the plain Aveeno and Aquaphor for a healing. I used a little coconut oil at the end of the latest one when I ran out of unscented lotion. I didn't sprout trees or anything.
  10. That's not on a lady arm, but it is a stunning shoulder. It would be really cool to see the same concept on the female form, to see if / how it changed. @sourpussoctopus , I was hoping you'd join this thread when I spied your arms in the introduction thread
  11. I really don't see anything wrong with your tattoo, but I am sorry you're not happy with it. I'd wear it for a while before you make any more expensive decisions about it.
  12. Curel Ultra Healing Lotion on my desk (for my crazy handwashing at work), Aveeno with colloidal oatmeal, and plain coconut oil.
  13. Everybody on my floor at work knows about my tattoos. I went with my son when he got his, so they all joked about me getting one too, and sure enough I did! My VP asked to see that one. My manager asked about the most recent one last week. I'm not sure how she even heard about it. They're all covered at work, but they're apparently not too secret.
  14. My latest tattoo ventures into that underarm meat. The Sharpie made me very nervous, but the tattoo didn't hurt. This one is single needle, all black, done with a rotary machine, and it has been a totally different experience.
  15. @sourpussoctopus I got an 'intentionally bad' tattoo at 37. Everything is so very nice.
  16. Here is my heart / rose by Talley Matthew. He works quickly and gently. This was super fun, and I'm excited to have a tattoo I can see easily :) Drawn on single needle

  18. The best part of getting a tattoo is taking your rough, non-artist idea in, and watching it made into a piece of art. That's pretty much exactly how it happens. You speak with the artist, she draws a picture, you speak again and make changes, then she applies a stencil, you can make more changes, then you get a tattoo.
  19. I'm moving onto my lady arms! Right before everybody puts up their Friday the 13th stuff, I hit a guest artist coming through town :) Hoping to start a themed collection on my left arm, with Talley Matthews, on Friday. Hubs is coming to the shop with me, but he's got an important shooting match on Saturday, so I know he won't be getting tattooed.
  20. I think my French fry will remain a stand alone, but I can't imagine not getting more flowers and birds. I'm not ruling out more food tattoos entirely :p
  21. When I worked for a printing company, we'd proof their art, but gently ask if the spelling was correct. Marketing departments sometimes play with spelling, so we were never 100% sure if it was a mistake or not. If we didn't ask, the claim was usually going to fall on us.
  22. Nashville is kinda far from Memphis, if you're 'stuck'.
