It's not about the name for me, it's about the power. You find the right tattooer, they can communicate your idea through their art in a powerful way. AP Shrewsbury wasn't a big name tattooer when I got tattooed by him, but his Seraph of the Crucified tattoo on my shin consistently gets the most attention out of all of my tattoos. It's bold, simple and powerful - that's the kind of tattoo I want.
People see similar powerful tattoos on others and they're drawn to that. Maybe those big-name tattooers aren't hitting you the same way.

Zoooombie thread just in time for Halloween...
First off, sorry I haven't posted in awhile, I've been super busy with life post-wedding. That being said, I've been wanting to make time to get tattooed and it looks like sometime in the next two months is perfect.
I'm planning on praying hands and roses on my left pec to balance out my chest. Tattooer-wise, I'd love it to be Corbin or Hendricks, but I don't think those guys are coming through Austin anytime soon. I saw that Katja Ramirez has moved to Rock of Ages and her black and gray work is killer. I'll keep ya'll posted when I get an appointment.

Hell, man- you haven't even scratched the surface of weird. Those tattoos are more stylistic choices than anything else. Rassier, Harrison, Lehi, Lum have much weirder work than that.
As to why, why the hell not? Why does anyone want anything-because it speaks to them.

...Men need to start teaching other men to CUT IT OUT! Seriously.
Or fathers/father figures need to teach boys how to be men; this stuff starts early. Just my .02

Undercrackers.
Nice. Im using that.
I'm a week behind, but I think we need a "Which undercrackers best accentuate squidpants?" thread. My vote is shamrock boxers, but it's not for everybody;)

Occasionally young kids come into the shop with huge throat tattoos, massive stretched ears, hands and knuckles done.and they're only 20-23... And I can't help but ask them "what do you do for a living?"
sometimes the answers surprise me lol.
One turned out to be a fisherman.lol
As an avid fisherman, that does not surprise me in the least:cool:

Funny story about this...
I told this girl I know (not girlfriend) that I was thinking of getting a traditional Jesus head tattooed on my chest. She then goes on to tell me that it would be super awkward for any girl that I end having sex with, because when they look up they would see Jesus.
True story.
I've thought the same thing. I think that would go for having a giant Bob Tyrell demon on your torso, too.

There's another with a guy named SoTatted Sharky, of the SoTatted Crew. It's equally horrendous. I hate myself for having watched any bits of the videos... they go from funny to depressing quickly.
It's like Tatted Out, without the auto-tune.
You mean this?

Hey,I wanna go fishing......
That's where I've been:
Although, once again, I'm not a tattooer. But fishing has become my latest obsession in the last six months.

Oh wow- how cool to log in and see this! Thank you guys so much! Key West was a blast and we're now back to "normal" life :p
I caught a shark while I was there, so I've decided to get a shark tattoo to comemorate the event. I'd have gotten one there, but the two shops I saw were not great. I'm thinking of waiting until a Florida artist makes it through town; Eric Inksmith is going to be at Ancient Ink, so that's a possibility ;)

The tail across my hip bone answered my question why so many women get their only tattoos there- they probably think all tattoos hurt at least that bad.
Also LST Big Cat Club!

There cooler bars/venues on the Eastside- don't waste your time with 6th Eastside Bar Crawl - Photos - The Austin Chronicle
Be sure and pick up an Austin Chronicle when you get to town- it'll help with the navigation.

I can assure you that if my wedding wasn't coming up, I would be getting something from Robert Ryan between sessions with Scott. I think a tattooer doing a large, multi-session tattoo is going to understand, especially in guest spot situations.

I haven't been doing much lately other than work and wedding plan (next week's the big day!) I have found time to get tattooed ( thigh panel by Scott Ellis) but the process has been moving slowly because I wanted to be healed for the honeymoon (beaches and diving and stuff). I'll be back in full post mode in a few. I know this is titled "where did the tattooers go?" not "where did the postaholics go?", but someone mentioned non-tattooers so I thought I'd chime in since I was around;)

I'm currently emailing Hunter and Fox to get in with Heath Nock, so I think I have it sorted out.
