David Flores post got me thinking. I know we're talking relationships in regards to SOs, but my family relationships around tattoos have always been more conflicted. Both of my younger sisters were tattooed before I was and none of their tattoos (save for the sugar skull the oldest got here in town from Ezra Haidet at Triple Crown through me) were done in great shops. The cherry on top though was when I opened Facebook one day and saw pics of my sister and brother in law getting tattooed in my Mom's KITCHEN by some "tattooer" friend of the older sister. My brother in law was about to ship out to Afghanistan and wanted something before he left, so my sister arranged this 'tatt party' at my Mom's. The fact that my parents who have given me so much shit about my choices allowed this to go down in their house reinforced my opinion that they just don't like me very much as a person. Familia es familia, but I got to say, it's pretty frustrating when the stuff I say about tattoo quality and sterility falls on deaf ears. Luckily, my son's being patient and he'll get his first real tattoo in a real shop in November

Looking for pics and ideas for collar tattoos (below the neck) that encircle the collar. I first noticed the mala bead tattoos some irezumi have in their tattoos and really liked the idea: I'm thinking chains, ropes, beads, wreaths, ouroboros, or even Hooper style filigree would look great Wondering how something like that affects a back tattoo- better to wait, get the back tattoo and bring it around from there? *NOTE I have nothing against script collar tattoos, I'm just looking for collar tattoos that are image based.

My 17 year old son came into town a few weeks ago and he's an avid fisherman. He's always been into it, but I never took the time to go out with him to the lake when he was younger. Well, this time, I went out with him and brought my two daughters and fiance as well and had a blast. Right before he went back home, we stopped at the local Academy and I bought a cheap rig for myself and my oldest daughter (my youngest already had a pee wee rig). Went out once last weekend with just the girls and they got bored (probably not early enough to catch anything). This weekend, I went out with my girl and fished twice- once in the morning, once in the evening. Damn, it was so relaxing. I didn't catch anything, but I really just enjoyed sitting in the quiet listening to the woods breathe. I also dropped my bike off at a cool local shop to fix a head gasket leak. It's been an issue for several years, but I'd put it off because I'd already switched the gaskets once (different shop) and my pride wouldn't let me spend another $500+ doing the same repair. I finally came to senses and got tired of getting my jeans/ lower leg covered in scalding oil and it is now being fixed correctly. Lastly, I'm putting together a grand opening art show here in town with local printer Mindzai Creative (also in Atlanta) called "ATX Works: The Working Class Show" theme chosen because it falls the weekend before Labor Day. I've meeting with Scott at Mindzai a few nights a week to work out artists, sponsors, fliers, DJ, etc. Last artshow I put together was years ago, so it's been a re-learning process.

Thought this was cool. I actually recognize the first skin from a pic of the guy in the 1001 Tattoos book: Unlocking The Mysteries Of The Tattoos Of The Dead

Any time someone approaches me to design a tattoo for them (which is not often), I offer them their idea as a painting and the outline on tracing paper. I then charge them what I would for a regular piece of art (5x7-$50, 8x10-$75, 11x14-$120). I also inform them that a decent tattooer is going to redraw what I just sold them, so be ready for that because it's part of the tattoo process. I need to find one of these people throwing around $500.

So what's going over it- Eagle/snake?

I get pretty bad ingrown hairs on my elbows, so that would be my biggest concern.

I think if I was moving to my elbows (or knees) I'd have my upper arms or legs covered ie use the web as filler. I'd also put a big freaking spider or girl head in it, but that's me. I don't get this "tattoo the most awkward spot" thing when people have large swaths of empty space that could be easily tattooed.

I would like to point out that exactly 7 months later, I now have a chest tattoo. Never say never ;)
