She does describe herself as "self-taught", so I'm guessing she's not asking established (or good) tattooers if she's doing it right. The tattooed versions of her stencils are pretty bad - those tattooers are not the ones she needs to talk to. Second post down on that Tumblr, she's tattooed her own ankles/feet.

I charge about $120 for tshirt designs; that gets you the original 8.5 x 11 line work/art and the layered .PSD file for the printer.

* Clicks link, sees Star Wars "flash", closes link It's okay, I think tattooing is going to live. Three years ago, when I started getting serious about my art, I referenced a lot of flash. I still paint a few 5x7 pieces that are based on flash. But those are practice now for bigger liquid acrylic pieces and designs. Part of that practice is trying to get them as close to the originals, color and shading-wise as possible for mechanical reasons. What I see in that Tumblr is someone who's copying other people's takes on traditional tattoo flash- I don't see a solid design in there that doesn't have some kind of gimmick- handlebar mustaches, Angelique Houtkamp riffs, and hipster tricks. Who knows, in three years it might be a different story ;)

It is such an annoyance when the help gets to gossip; our halls echo with their whispers and innuendos from behind the servant quarter's door.

Somebody needs to make a candle with that scent:) ...when you get excited at a used book store or resale shop and come across something that you've seen used as reference in flash. All anyone else can think is "Why is this guy geeking out over a sheet music cover or bookend?" I also do this with samples in music though, so maybe it's just me.

So new squat max is 255- I think I could have got 260-65 if my back was fresh. The new belt worked wonders though. My old "max" was 30 pounds more, but my form was terrible. Now I'm hitting below parallel because of the advice I've gotten here =)

Sounds good- be sure and start a Facebook page for your tattooing and load up your albums with portfolio stuff. Then go out and make friends with all the tattooers you like, and make friends with their friends. Post links to art stuff you dig (like Last Sparrow ;), Tattoo Age, other shops and artists), but also other things you might be interested in- people like seeing variety. A good example is Bailey Hunter Robinson's The Fabled White Buffalo Co. -its a Tumblr that has pics of his art, but also cool things he finds inspirational. Once you do that, you can link your Facebook to your Twitter so all you have to do it post from Facebook and it tweets to your feed on Twitter.

New maxes for this cycle (at 155 body weight): bench 255 dead 345 military 155 ( my body weight seems to be the sticking point here) Overall, I'm happy that I'm back to March numbers being 5 pounds leaner. I'm also happy with my form, as I felt some of my old numbers were "cheated" by bad form. Squats tomorrow :D I also ended up with the 4' Harbinger belt- the support felt amazing while lifting yesterday and I'm looking forward to using it tomorrow.

So I was driving through the neighborhood yesterday and spotted this vintage woodframed window with one pane broken on the curb. My first thought was the Broken Window Theory, the old criminology theory that disrepair leads to increased vandalism. So I took that idea and started this project. Each day for a week, I do a quick and 'toy' throwup on the back side of the window, being careful to tape off the broken pane. Then I hit the piece with carb cleaner (remover), letting the piece before it 'leak' through. At the end of the week, you should be able to see pieces of seven different throw-ups peeking through and one 'clean' broken window pane. The end result is a statement on the life cycle of graffiti, how society goes after the art, but never fixes the "broken window", whatever that happens to be; Phase 1: Phase 2: Phase 3:

True- but remember BB is about the extremes people will go to in their quest for what they consider "good" for themselves (or family). Maybe this last season we see Hank go vigilante

Let me preface this by saying I'm an artist, not a tattoo artist... How are your self-promotion skills, g.? Do you have an Instagram/ blog/FB/Twitter that you update constantly? Cards are kind of the old school way of doing- people want to pull you up on their phone- give them that ability. The reason I ask should be apparent. As an artist, you have to view yourself as a brand and a business in terms of income generation. It's the reason a lot of mediocre artists get noticed and greats get slept on. Let's get real- I know about 90% of the tattoo artists I do because of MARKETING- whether that's the web or print. The 10% I know from word of mouth are still out there on the web and in print. When you mention a mass exodus of artists, I'm assuming they're still in the same city, which means people in that town are getting tattooed. You have to figure out how to get those people interested in your work and what you have to offer. And start using your real name and website in your signature- it back links to your portfolio in search engines. ;)
