2012 Most Popular Tattoo Design Projections
Kev replied to Lochlan's topic in Tattoo Designs, Books and Flash
Love Dave Mann posters. This is pretty epic: -
Tracing helped me get down line flow and opened up my outlines. Everything I drew prior to doing that was super tight and had a weak profile. Then again, I had been drawing since elementary school, so I understood basic art concepts already.
-
Sometimes as I walk out the door to go to work in the freezing cold and I look back at my 3 cats I've just fed, curling up on the couch, this is exactly what I think:
-
1) Get basic drawing books if you've never drawn 2) If you're drawing off old flash, get some tracing paper and trace, trace, trace; then try drawing. That will help you understand what the artist was doing when they created the original painting. It also helps to try and find what the old flash was referencing in the first place-stuff like old lithographs, book illustrations, etc. Find the 'outline' in those things and shade accordingly.

Definitely seems to be a quantity over quality. Also, that Cyrus kid is completely bare backed; I noticed in a few other videos, some of these other screamo/metalcore guys are the same way-full sleeves, neck, and color bombed torso, bare ribs/back.

I know we talk a lot about how photo-realistic/ non-outlined tattoos won't hold up, but does anyone have any pics to show that? I saw pics of realistic/ no outline stuff in tattoo mags from the late 80's-through 90's, so we're talking about stuff out there that's had at least 20 years to age. More a matter of curiosity.

Both of those are great videos, Slayer; that heavy Kode9 /Burial dub is where it's at. Flying Lotus has excellent videos: Eskmo: Baths: Parkway Drive: Austrian Death Machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llUV6hPuQsU

There are SO many reasons presented in this video why you should avoid being this person. Whoa.

Stell's also going to be at the Austin Show in a few weeks I believe and West Texas later. Dallas would be closer for you though.

Fist tattoo on my fist holding a fist by the wrist -
O/T, but it was explained to me that pricing your tee shirts below $30 infers they're 'cheap'; All-over prints are hella expensive to run.

Definitely not the worst of rip-offs of another artist's work - I think that honor belongs to Hall of Shame members Derek Noble posted last year on his Myspace. The reason I say that is when someone tries copy someone that has a super-stylized way of doing things, like Derek Noble, Myles Karr, Matt Shamah, Ashley Davies, etc, it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Maybe something on my lower leg at the Star of Texas convention, possibly a trip to DC and Tattoo Paradise (LOT'S of great choices there), and something in November for my birthday from Jason Brooks or Jaie Devore. But that's a long time from tomorrow, so who knows ; )

Religious tattoos...on the non-religious
Kev replied to slayer9019's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
"Religious: : relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity" I think if someone is drawn to an image, there's something in it they relate to-whether it be through personal experience or cultural influence, or a combination of the two. I'm a baptized and confirmed (through the rite of confirmation) Catholic, but rarely go to church. Like I was telling someone the other day "People might see my bookshelf and think "That's a spiritual guy"; in reality, I'm just a guy trying to understand spirituality". I don't operate under the pretense that every person with a religious tattoo is spiritual or even trying to be. -
Actually, here in Austin anyway, being a tattooed teacher is pretty easy. When in Rome,...
