Well, they could do, but you have to bear in mind that those who are answering the phones are also taking appointments, running errands, keeping the place tidy and so on. If it's a busy studio, I don't think many would want to give them yet another task while they're already run off their feet. At least if you're on the phone you can quietly hand out consent forms and tidy up while you're doing that.

I felt exactly the same when I got my tattoo which reaches slightly over my chest. I think I called my tattooer a bastard a billion times during it- all in good fun, of course!

You're not wrong there, man. Nothing like literally dancing with yourself in the pouring rain while Billy Idol's playing in front of your very eyes, haha.

I can imagine, mate. The Blue Album is my favourite of theirs too. Steven Tyler didn't have feathers in his hair (from what I could see, anyway), but he did rock some tight trousers and a huge long jacket! He had a massive hat, too, how I think about it. It was really great :) Rage Against the Machine were there that weekend, too, they were perfect. And Billy Idol, too! I wish I could go back to that weekend.

Tattooers with little to no tattoos

I know many tattooers who hate receiving emails, too. I think sometimes an email can be beneficial to explain fully what you're after, especially if when you call someone else is picking up the phone, but I would ask if it's okay to email them, first, just to be polite. I don't think you'd really have to do that though, unless you wanted to send something for reference or had a fairly complex idea.

Tattooers with little to no tattoos
Mel Noir replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
I don't think anyone would feel attacked by your comments, Bart, your comments are more than fair, and overall, your personal opinions. :) I think I would wonder, too, though I'm not sure whether I would outwardly ask about it. I think that's just a personal thing though, since I already put my foot in my mouth enough, haha.- 221 replies

Tattooers with little to no tattoos
Mel Noir replied to Lochlan's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Here's a question, then: if you went to a tattooer and you couldn't see any tattoos on them, would you ask them if they had them? I think you'd have to be careful about not being rude by asking, though from what the popular opinion is here, it's worth knowing. I mean, you don't really know that they actually have a massive backpiece or tattoos on their legs unless you were to ask, I guess.- 221 replies

To be honest, I think this is more about you being worried since it's your first tattoo, more than anything. I think you'll relax a lot more once you've seen his drawing, and you'll find it's all fine. And if not, well just go to the other guy, haha.

looking for advice on pricing paintings...
Mel Noir replied to smiling.politely's topic in Paintings and Prints
To be honest, I just think this shouldn't really be about money. I've bought prints from tattooers who have charged me less than a tenner, just because they really loved painting it and don't care. A friend of mine sells some of her work on eBay for a fraction of the price she charges to tattoo, just because she knows someone out there will love to have it on their wall. If you're in anything for money, you won't do that well, I've found. -
Want to get your next American Traditional tattoo on the new show "Inkmaster"?
Mel Noir commented on Inkmaster's blog entry in Blog Inkmaster
Um.... yeah. Haha! ;) I thought about sending an email, but they've probably already checked this and seen that we don't want their bullshit. Actually, would they bother? They don't know how to do research, from what we've seen. -
They played the full Blue Album live?! I'm jealous. Massively jealous. I only have one set of tickets in my house right now, and they're for this Asian Man revival tour. Dan Andriano and Chuck Reagan will be there- very excited. The show that really blew my mind was probably Aerosmith last year, closely followed by the AC/DC show I saw two days before that.

Haha! Yeah sorry about that, I meant to say if "they" say anything, as in whoever's licensing this. I still like to think someone will be doing this because they genuinely want to get great tattooer's stuff "out there", and don't realise that those in tattooing don't really like it. It's a pipe dream, but I'll stick with optimism. Anyway, I'm off to edit that post and refrain from saying anything after 3AM from now on before I look like a real idiot.

Mel Noir commented on Inkmaster's blog entry in Blog Inkmaster
I'd love to be a part of the show. Unfortunately, my next door neighbour's dad's friend's cat hasn't died yet, though. I keep trying to hit it with my car, but no luck. Until then, I sit at home most days, wishing I too could have a tattoo and wear leather trousers. I already have three shitty polaroids of the cat to use for the portrait, too, but the thing keeps living. It's getting to a point where I'm wondering if I'll even be able to cry for the cameras when the time comes. It's so depressing. In all seriousness though, has anyone else noticed how shite things with the word "inked" tagged onto it can be? -
I wouldn't take it too personally, to be honest. Tattooing's a 24/7 job sometimes, and the guy may have just had a ridiculously busy week or something. It's pretty likely you're just someone who's slipped through the net of an otherwise tightly run studio. At the same time, I'll echo what Ursula and Jake are saying- if you're unsure, or if the drawing sucks, you don't have to get it tattooed on you.

Chemical Composition of Tattoo Pigments
Mel Noir replied to William Burgess's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Brazilians are crazy? I had no idea, haha. Leo isn't, but he's the only Brazilian I know. Seriously though, I really get what you mean. I've noticed a few mainstream news outlets have already commented on how safe tattoo ink is, and asking if people should be worried. These reports are always the same though, with the whole, "they're not just for sailors any more!" drivvel, a mention of Miami Ink and some bullshit statistic, so I don't know how many people are paying attention to them. -
Seems to me like it's an online thing. Judging by what my producer friend says about the internet (he never shuts up about YouTube), I think that's a really good thing! I can't remember why, but it's great. Plus, it's good for us too, because we'll be able to watch it for free, and won't have to lend it to a friend who takes ages giving it back, haha.

I'm with David, I don't think I could make an objectionable list. I think mine would look fairly similar to those already up here, though. Perhaps with the addition of Philadelphia Eddie, Rat and Charlie Roberts. Crap... that's sort of a list already, isn't it?

I reckon a kangaroo did it. If you know about kangaroos you'll know they're straight outta Compton.

If we're talking about "approved inks" now, have you guys heard about the situation in Brazil? Sounds to me like this is the situation you guys don't want, but it's already happening in one place. From my good friend Leo, via Facebook: -
It looks brilliant! I'll admit I was wary of clicking the link at first, after seeing too much bollocks around tattooing, but I'm glad I did. Already excited to see it :)
-
Thank you Ursula, you rock! Wow, Meghan's work is really cool too- oh crap, I can see tattoo-themed embroidery becoming another money-hole for me, this is all beautiful :)

Chemical Composition of Tattoo Pigments
Mel Noir replied to William Burgess's topic in General Tattoo Discussion
Y'know, it's a funny one. I think loads of things in tattooing which used to be sacred aren't any more, and that's a real shame. I think perhaps things around inks are the same, where any bastard with a computer can find out too much. Anything in tattooing that's still close to the tattooer is kind of special, I reckon. At the same time though, there's times where you'd have to give it up. If someone was anxious about what was going into their skin, it's only fair to tell them what it is. I think the same thing definitely goes for those who are allergic to certain things, though that's just common sense, haha. -
Sorry to hear this, Deb. Unfortunately though, it doesn't sound too uncommon. There are now about 10 tattoo studios in my city centre. Only one I'd consider any good. The worst thing about it is the fact some are WAY too close to my friend's studio. When he opened up, he was the only guy tattooing in that part of town- now there are two other studios on the same street. Both terrible. Both stealing his work, too. People are wankers.
