@Mia Hey there, yeah, that's called haggling. Don't do it. 🙂 He’s a very good artist and I know he wouldn’t take advantage. I was just unsure of how artists feel about complying to a budget. He said he would be between 300-400, so trust him. And if it was rude to ask him to draw up something that would be worth what my budget was and let him do it to we’re it would be worth that much to him. I don't follow. ? Remember, cheap tattoos are not good and good tattoos are not cheap. MOST artists are not going to draw something up and give it to you in advance.

Hey @Mia We may have different ideas on what haggling is but if you told him your budget was 300-400 then you want it for 300, that's haggling to me. Maybe we are simply misunderstanding each other! I am still not understanding the ask to draw up the tattoo if you DON'T want to see it before hand? Sorry, it's been a long couple of days.

  3. I understand that. But it seems to be the case now.

  4. This wasn't always the case with LST. @pentacletattoo... a search thru historical threads will find you plenty of information and shit being shot by some well known tattooers. However, according the Guidelines, you won't be finding any trade secrets or "how to's". But there's TONS of information within them there hills. I suggest watching all the LST Interviews so you can pretend like you were sitting right there when some great artists were shit shooting and sharing their stories. But first... read the Guidelines.

But you have to remember that you can't ask for a super-detailed/complicated tiny tattooed on a tiny budget because that can't happen for obvious reasons. If your design is simple, you have a spot in mind, and you have a certain budget, say that up front for sure. 😊

I don't think it's disrespectful to tell an artist your budget and/or ask if you can get a particular design for that amount.

The way you talk about it is important, calling it your budget. " Hi I'm hoping I could get something like this for X-XX amount"

  9. Hey @Decay You have a lovely new tattoo. Tattooing isn't science, it's art and you can't set a clock by how long a tattoo will take. Your artist, who I assume you trust to tattoo you, will always give you a best guess. It may take longer; it may take less time. You do realize how much goes into tattooing, right? Your artist has to come up with a design, a piece of art, from whatever concept you have in your head and translates that into a tattoo on your skin. There's design, drawing, and setup among other things that happen way before the needles hit your skin. If you feel like you are being ripped off over what you think is 30 minutes, you need to think long and hard if tattooing is for you. Enjoy the ride! Let go a little and you will have a better experience. I have never seen a menu of prices and that concept will not serve you well on your tattoo journey. Where do you live where you haggle over everything? And I really hope that you tipped your artist.
