November 28 -- 2nd sleeve begins. Once again, we returned to the studios of world traveling artist Scott Ellis. He's spent most of the last six months hopscotching Europe. I was happy to know ahead of time that he'd be back in Austin Texas for a few week -- plenty of time to start sleeve #2. Scott suggested we try a Phoenix for this sleeve. Seemed to fit well with the dragon. Here is his notebook prior to my arriving: As before, Scott creates the design in freehand. Took him about 3.25 hours. And as before, he was ever the perfectionist -- at one point an hour in wiping off my arm and starting again because he felt the bird's head was an inch off from where he wanted it. As we progress, Scott goes through about four layers, increasing the detail with ever more fine brushes along the way. Below are layer #3 and #4: Taken in mirror: And at least, we ink! 2.5 hours of linework. Unfortunately, Scott is back off to Europe... so no shading stage until April. That's okay, it is worth the wait to be worked on by a master.5 points

@otisc If you haven't already visited Lazarus Brewery while you were in the area, you might want to make a point of that in April . . .2 points

You're probably not going to get a specific appointment for something so small. Inking time will be less than 1 minute. Total time in front of the tattooist will probably be less than 10 minutes. Be prepared to pay a shop minimum (which will vary depending on which shop in Boston, but probably $75-100). I'm not familiar with the shops there, but the pitfall is that it takes almost nothing to screw up very simple design like this, so you don't want to end up in the hands of some newbie apprentice or an experienced person who isn't really invested or interested in helping you out. It's going to be a balancing act. 2nd on @Dan's comment regarding the white ink choice2 points -

Quality ALWAYS matters. Someone is pushing ink into your skin with needles. There are LOTS of things that can go wrong, it's not just that you would have a shitty looking tattoo. If you can't afford quality work, don't get one.2 points -

I really think that you are having an allergic reaction to something... I'd go to a dermatologist and/or talk to my artist(s) to see if they have any guesses/insights. The fact that your tattoo's are itchy makes me think it's an allergy.2 points -
How do you figure out what you want for your next piece?
oboogie and one other reacted to Gingerninja for a topic
I guess it depends on how you want your arms to ultimately look. If you plan on a cohesive looking sleeve(s), talk to your artist.2 points -
Part of the answer relates to "why did you get a tiger and/or lion tattoo?" in the 1st place. Maybe your motivation should come from the same place and drive the "what's next?" bus . . .1 point

surround it with awesome tattoos! Learn how to find an artist who already nails the specific style and feel for what you want to wear, and let them do their thing.1 point

JessicaRay, no verdict, unfortunately. My bumps were smaller and just went away one day all of the sudden leaving a bit raised lines.1 point -
Anyone here ever heard of Ozzy Ostby - tattoo artist out of Venice Beach, CA? I hadn't heard of him, but my Instagram started suggesting posts by him. He does some amazing work, but perhaps his best piece is one he does repeatedly: a panther wearing sunglasses. Here is a small tribute to Ozzy's panther. Oh how I want one!!!!1 point

Wow, girl...never seen this before. Since you are 10 weeks postpartum, I just can't help thinking that it's somehow related. Maybe you are allergic to something with the baby (not your baby) but like the soap, lotions, diapers or something?1 point -

I am weird so I have a list on OneNote of tattoos I want, if I have a particular artist I want for that tattoo and placement. A lot of times one or more of the three are blank so in that case I don't get that next but once I have all 3 I usually just end up obsessed with the idea until I get it. If I am not obsessed I don't get it.1 point -

I am sorry for intruding, but have your doctor discussed with you an option of biopsy? I went to the doctor with similar issue and that's what he said can be done to understand what's happening in the bumps and so to treat them appropriately1 point -
I would just suggest being really careful. I've seen way more tattoos made worse by monkeying with them than made better. I would find someone really good at coverups. Not that you should cover it up, but this is not going to be easy to work with. Good luck. It's not a bad tattoo.1 point

I'd leave it. It's not a bad tattoo. However, I wouldn't go back to the artist. It's too monochromatic. Get more tattoos.1 point
