Same. People go on and on about how bright my tattoos are all the time. You know why? They never, ever see the sun. It really works!

Hi! I'm Kat. I actually don't have any tattoos yet but have been wandering around this forum for a while, seeing what everyone else had to say about their own experiences. I thought I'd finally join and post because I'm in the planning stages of getting my first tattoo and want some advice from people who are way more experienced than I am. Hope it's okay that I'm posting stuff before even having a first tattoo, you just seemed like the most knowledgeable community out there and so the perfect place to turn to. Looking forward to getting to know all of you awesome people.

Welcome. Do lots and lots of research. From reading what is posted on this forum, it's pretty apparent that most people don't. Find out what can go wrong so you aren't unpleasantly surprised. Make sure you get the best artist possible. Understand the limits of tattooing. Research aftercare. Good luck.

Almost every day someone comments on how good my tattoos look.Its because they never see the sun.

You won't know what it's going to look like until it heals. It takes 4-6 weeks to heal. If it's a blow out there is NOTHING you can do about it. Even the best artists can have blowouts. Calm down and enjoy your tattoo.

I never said that someone should worry about one single 5-15 minutes of sun exposure. What I said was that it's cumulative - increasing or increased in quantity, degree, or force by successive additions. How much a tattoo fades does depend on multiple factors, not a million ;-) but it would seem prudent to avoid the one that also causes skin cancer. It's funny how the people I know that avoid the sun almost all have nice bright tattoos and the people I know that spend a lot of time in the sun almost all have significant fading on their tattoos. Maybe it's just a coincidence. Did you know that you can get vitamin D from lots of sources other than the sun?

Ever hear of skin cancer? It's from cumulative exposure to the sun. And tattoos don't fade REGARDLESS of how you care for them. The better care you take of them, the longer they last.

I cover my arms with UV block sleeves.

Well, I got a little excited at the end and didn't get a "done" photo of the tattoo but you get the idea. 🙂 The Garver pottery...OMG, I cannot believe that I own a couple of pieces. As far as I know, this was his first sale of his pottery. The shop, Ninth Wave, is owned by Dave Shoemaker and his wife. Very cool shop and super nice folks. It was an "Adorned" weekend. Side note: Bryan ended up with most of Adorned's flash and library. Pretty rad.

lol - yes it was awesome...... couple of pics attached - not had a summer like this in the UK for a while - am I am back home now - but... have an appointment tomorrow with my local friendly tattoo emporium 🙂
