  1. Calm down, you could be leaking ink for a days. It's perfectly normal.

  2. My artist always deducts all prep time, his lunch break and throws in some time for free. I have an established relationship and tip well. I need to stretch once an hour or so and dont mind when he needs a break. I understand his need for margin. He delivers an outstanding customer experience. Quality of work is very important. The customer experience is also important. It works both ways. Simple communication helps both expectations. If your artist is not delivering the same type service...I would look else where.

    tattoo ink dripping

sounds perfectly normal to me. so keep it clean now, keep it out of the sun,and either use use a very light coat of Aquafor a couple times a day or a daily moisturiser like Aveeno fragrance free. should be just fine.

  5. It could have been an honest math mistake at the end of a long day. If you like his work, then by all means continue. All the matters is if you're happy. Tattoos do cost whatever you're willing to pay for them. But it sounds like he's slow, painful and wasn't really respectful of your time/money - this of course is just from reading your responses on the internetz and we don't know the whole context...but the tattoo won't lie. Did it turn out awesome? Healing well? Red flag if you're second guessing whether or not you got the hustle. If you left with a sour taste why go back? maybe i'm just confused. or tattoo-naive because my experiences have been all good. Tattoos fade, the experience is permanent. Good luck

  6. I've had both of my shoulders done and I just about slept through it. Sounds like it may be time to move on.

  7. IMO, a 15 minute smoke break every hour is excessive... If you like his work and want to continue working with him, I'd find a way to say something. It's not like you don't want to pay for his time. Like @Hogrider, said it also means that you have to get back to your happy place. Express your concerns in a nice way. Every two hours should be sufficient. :)

  8. We're done! The previous two day session didnt' go as well as the few before it had, I ended up having a pretty bad case of hitting the wall hard enough to lump my noggin. So I was concerned about the final session... but I did much better during those 5 or so hours a few days ago and here we are! Total I think ~35 hours, maybe deduct one or two total for breaks etc. That tengu has the exasperated smarmy expression I would expect it to have having had a teenage Yoshitsune (nee Ushiwakamaru) thwack it with a wooden sword. Horifuji's instagram has some clearer pictures from before we applied the film on it (as you can tell it was a bit ticked off and seepy by that point). (by Horifuji @ State of Grace, San Jose , CA, USA) Feels a bit weird plopping this on teh intertoobz but I am so pleased with my experience* that I wanted give him and the whole shop a shout-out. *minus the hurty being- poked-with-needles part.

    Armpit Tattoos

My coworker has his armpits and he said it was really easy. They look great and he keeps his pits shaved as if he has a date every night. I know these spots were saved for sexually graphic material in japan according to some traditions. Either way I think it looks awesome. To the guy who got the panther in his arm pit whoever came up with that idea fit that perfectly. I love it!

  10. You feel you were overcharged by $200, but you left a $100 tip?? That'll teach him ... NOT 1 hour prep, 30 minutes lunch, 15 minute break each hour, I'd look for another artist. I don't want to sit for 6 hours to get four hours worth of tattooing. Also, every time he takes a break, you have to get into the zone again. My guy usually goes about 2 hours between breaks.

  11. Fair warning - If you're going with the foot placement, it probably won't matter how you word it.

  12. This is about as close to the internet as this is getting, but couldn't resist posting a peak of this silky smooth background action from Edmonton's fav underground tattooer (as I'm sure @bongsau would agree).

  13. Yes, I believe any tattoo placed in an area frequently seen by others will change your experience undoubtedly. I think tattoos get seen as so much the fashion item these days people forget how powerful they are. They communicate to the individual onlooker in a myriad of ways that could fill up a whole book. However, whatever the feelings about tattoos are by the onlooker could be the difference between them looking right past you as if you don't exist or asking you to come come with them to spend the night. Enjoy the journey. Every tattoo is a living commitment to allowing your internal world to the external.

7 days away from Horitomo! I'm so excited, if anyone wants to come see a big wuss getting a big puss on his back come say hey. I also picked up two October dates days after the Bay Area Convention for a solid 10 hours. My first 20 hours will be over in no time it looks like.
