Latest tattoo lowdown.....
Intomyskin and 6 others reacted to LizBee for a topic
Brand new shoulderblade piece, 4 days old. Inspired by the cedar waxwing, my favorite bird, and my grandma's pansies (she would have been 120 years old on Friday!) Tattoo by Darcy Nutt at the Richmond convention, blending in beautifully with her previous work the past two years on my SA cichlid/floral half-sleeve. I'm definitely one of Darcy's "nuts" P.S. All of Darcy's tattoos are free hand7 points -

Ah feck it, here have a fresh pic of my new tattoo. On 2nd October I got this tattooed. A Honda CB Twin Motorcycle, with Giger style touches. Tattooed in memory of biker friends who recently passed. Tattooed by Tommygunn at Belfast City Skinworks, Belfast, Northern Ireland. Fresh pic (taken 4 Oct 17)6 points -

Hey everyone! I was going to post about having been busy (got 3 new puppies this year!) and me having been on a bit of a tattoo hiatus since my last post but then I realized 4 tattoos since April can't really be called a "hiatus" 😁. Sure, I would have liked more, and they may be small(ish): First off a fun little Studio Ghibli handpoke (actually it kind f ended up being two separate tattoos, Totoro/No Face on the back of my ankle and the little soot sprites (small one is about 1cm wide, excuse my blonde monkey hair) on my arm) by Serena Raccuglia. This was a "couple tattoo" to borrow a Korean expression, as the hubby got a matching one, with both Totoro and the sprites on his wrist. Then the double trouble - mammoth skull on my right forearm, by Alessandro Caponetto, and the pretty (but impossible to photograph by myself) moon/peony blossom on my left shoulder by Claudio Romeo, done at Sick To Ink in Palermo, Sicily. At the same time. Such a fun way to spend a morning 😊. Last but not least, on Friday I got my first tattoo at a convention: a very cool sacred heart by Vanessa Corsale. Edit. Totoro pic pinched from tattooer so freshly done, everything else healed, except for the last one obviously (currently with pretty scabs on the yellow and peeling elsewhere)4 points -

Tattoos inspired by music?
TattooedMumma reacted to thyes for a topic
I'm curious to see if there are others in here who have gotten tattoos dedicated to their favourite bands, singers, artists or just inspired by music in general? I love music, especially metal and rock. So my second tattoo was heavily inspired by the band Tool and their.. wierd artwork. It's been 7 years since I got this tattoo, but I still feel like it needs something more added to it. Just haven't gotten to it yet, I guess. The pic is from the day I got it if I recall correct. Didn't have a healed pic and couldn't be arsed to take one now, so I snagged this from my Facebook. It's not as crisp ofcourse, but it's still in pretty decent shape (thank god for SPF 50). Show me yours, there must be some in here :)1 point -

He probably received the design. nobody is 100% sure on the first tattoo. It is normal not to see the design until right before its on you. dont get it if you don't like it. Dont sweat it,it's a piece of cake.1 point -

I have a neo traditional Freddie Mercury portrait on my left calf - still fresh in the pic pinched from the artist's instagram. And my left arm is a collection of random tattoos that no one else would associate with music, but for me each is a representation of a favourite song of mine (so far they are all Queen songs...).1 point -
Tipping Question
Boiled Dove reacted to rdinak for a topic
I generously tip my artist because his work will be with me for a while. The first session I tipped over 50% the cost of the work. On my next visit, I tipped just under 50% but included a couple small gifts on the front end. I dont mind when my artist needs a smoke break or to have a quick break for lunch. He doesn't mind when I say I need to stretch. At my age I am only good for about 4 or 5 hours and then I am exhausted. Quality is always worth the price and the wait. Showing a little gratitude and respect will have most artist doing some really extraordinary work. The waitress that served me a nice meal is nowhere near the same level as the guy whose ink I wear with pride for the next 20 years. Just one old guy's perspective...1 point -
first arm piece

Been lurking for a while, first post. The information on this forum is so helpful - thanks to all of you. I've been getting tattooed for over 20 years, starting with the obligatory celtic knot on my ankle in the early 90's (later lasered off). I took a long hiatus from getting tattooed and then dove in with a large back piece from Greg Whitehead in 2014. I'd been considering getting something more visible for a while, but needed to wait until I could fully commit mentally. I'd been following Robert Ryan for a few years on Instagram, love all of his work, and knew I wanted him to do my tattoo. Finally took the plunge last weekend and couldn't be happier. The design is taken from one of his paintings, Bardo Thodol. We left the bottom of the tattoo intentionally open-ended so I can add to it later. Wonderful experience at Electric Tattoo in Asbury Park, great people all around, and VICE was there shooting a documentary on Robert for the Tattoo Age series. My tattoo might be famous! We'll see if it makes it into the final cut. Anyway, great to be here!1 point -
Carrying it on the other side will not only reduce tattoo aggravation, it will reduce repeated stress on your spine. Once I switched to the left hand for carrying my briefcase or backpack, my back pains greatly reduced. Sent from my Le Pan TC802A using Tapatalk1 point

I am so sorry dude. While I have never gotten an infection I did get one messed up tattoo from a professional studio that came highly referred by friends. Pissed me off to no end. Some was due to my inexperience and some was outright deceit on the shop owners end. It happens to a lot of people. Did the Dr do a culture right away? MRSA would be my main concern.1 point

Ok I sat in the chair for a little over 5 hours today. Off to a great start. Will go back in about three weeks for color. My artist was excited when I presented him the Cuban cigar. The afternoon passed quickly with lots of great conversation. Little did my artist know the old guy had attended Tool concerts... Before 20 year old Dragon showing a little age. Work in progress Life is good1 point -

@Boiled Dove Hahaha...I always recruit people to Tegaderm me. I now have my "regulars" who laugh at me (I buy them drinks or dinner which seems to help). Even with the derm, my last few have healed scabbier and slower. Thankfully, I just had bloodwork done so I know that at least the heal isn't something else. Your torch by Chad is amazing!!1 point -

I don't know what's up with my body but the last couple of tattoos have scabbed like never before. The back of my thigh is healing albeit a lot slower than other places. It's driving me batty! It's not itchy just scabby..1 point -

Heres 2 shots of removing Tegaderm. Saniderm used to make me break out in water blisters and hives after 2 days. This heal process was : see below Tattoo was done on Friday 6-8pm 1) First 28 hours, wrap with Saran wrap only (washing periodically) (No moisturizer under saran wrap) 2) Put first set of Tegaderm on after 28 hours 3) Peel off after 24 hours and wash - let dry for 20 mins and apply second set of Tegaderm ( Sunday night) 4) Leave (second set) on for 3 days and remove Wednesday night 5) Apply good moisturizer and heal from here etc. Notice the red lines around the edges of where the Tegaderm was. That is a mild irritation from 4 days of Tegaderm. Something is different with the glue in Tegaderm VS the Saniderm for my body. The skin is wrinkled but healed over and is already peeling. I soaked all of the Tegaderm in Coconut oil for 15 minutes before peeling off and it came of easy. I also get one whole edge peeled back then pull it down very close to the skin so its NOT pulling the skin outward. this works for me.1 point

Yeah, I've got many of them.. around 10 are directly inspired by music.. some of them though are only "indirectly" linked to music, like, I took the inspiration from Celtic folk bands, from musicians and so on but it was only a loose inspiration.. I've got one tattoo on my right chest (like, under the armpit, I never studied English so I lack the lexicon ) which is a French phrase took from a song called Crier Tout Bas by Coeur de Pirate, but I don't have a picture of it.. I've also a simple tattoo from The Offspring but ok, no pictures right now, maybe in the next weeks, I have to take out the camera ahahah!! Let me see if I manage to find some pictures ahah I'm not so technological This one (very old photo, my arm was almost entirely white ahahah!!) is more like an artist's interpretation of one of my favourite Evanescence (pre-Fallen) song, Imaginary, I gave him some hints and he based his work on Evanescence fonts and made this masterpiece by adding other things like the two curves under :) Btw, it's not in the lyrics, it's only the title of the track and it has many meanings to me. Amy Lee has never written a song containing that word as far as I know! This other one on my back is also very old, it's taken from a song called Mental Central Dialog by Lifelover and it's in Swedish as the original. I let the tattoo artist (a girl 29yo like me, I think 24-25 at the time, the other guy above was born in the '60s instead XD) choose a font and wanted it completely black. This is one of my very very first tattoos.. it's made with many adaptations with the Riot! font from Paramore, although the track is taken from their next album and it's called Anklebiters Oh, and this one, I was still underage at the time, it's very very very very old XD the picture is a little bit distorted but I can't find another one.. anyways it's a Sami (Lapland) graffito (you use this Italian word too right? XD), I took it from Shaman/Korpiklaani (Finnish folk metal band) logo something like 15 years ago I think.. the photo sucks but it's still great with a rock-like design (the original is a bit different, I took inspiration both from the band and from the original Laplanders graffiti) :)1 point

This one of Highway 61 is inspired, in part, by music. Dylan; blues highway ect... although it's also inspired by road trips and the connection between northern MN and the Mississippi River. I also have a guitar with roses that Mario Desa made one me and a steal your face (grateful dead symbol) that I got in Vegas. My tattoo of red hot chili peppers is not inspired by music- that one is inspired by my love of hot peppers.1 point -
