You may not like it but it's not a BAD tattoo. Just my opinion, but the more you screw around with it, the more likely you WILL end up with a bad tattoo. Go big around it and you won't even notice it. I definitely echo @Gingerninja - wait at least a year. It sounds like a long time, but it will pass before you know it.3 points

Not a bad tattoo, but it's very monochromatic and hard to read. I had to stare at it a while to figure out what everything is. Also, the proportions are off - the man is as big as the horse. I'm not sure what you would put around it, I'd find a really good artist and ask for ideas.2 points

welcome,I don't think that flower coverup is so bad,it's kind of a pretty cool tattoo IMO. maybe you could just have it added to.expand on that theme.2 points

What can I do with this shit tattoo?
Gingerninja reacted to thyes for a topic
@Gingerninja: Yeah ofcourse, skin cancer totally sucks, so I'm using a lower SPF on my back. Yeah I don't know, I just keep hearing how bad the sun is for a tattoo, and that even the shortest amount of time spent in the sun can damage or fade your tattoos.. just got me like a-ha! :P1 point -
Your original tattoo was shit, but this coverup is great if you ask me. However, I do see what you mean about the yellow/orange in the lower flower. It will probably fade to look like your natural skin colour over the years, my guess at least. Then again, tattoos fade, and colourful tattoos probably need touching up more often than black and grey. If you want to change the colour of it then that's a perfectly sound solution, but like everyone above said; wait a while. I have a tattoo on my back that I have been insecure about for around 5-6 years now, so I know what it feels like. I know that I'm gonna get it fixed some day, but since it's covered most of the time I'm in no rush. Good luck, whatever you decide to do :)1 point

Yeah it took me forever to figure out that one of the legs wasn't a horse head, I couldn't figure out why he'd be riding two horses at once. Like hogrider said, it's not a bad tattoo, but it's not great. The concept is cool, I truly like the idea. However, if it were executed perfectly you'd be able to see easily what's the horse, what's the guy, and where the wings are coming from (the horse, the knight, or an eagle sitting on his back?) Same as all the other threads, wait six months to a year to let it heal fully and for you to get used to what you do and don't like, then find an excellent artist and see what their concept for expanding on it would be. 3rd on the bus voting for expansion. Just add a bunch more flowers around it and it'll blend in to the mix.1 point

@Dan thank you. I would definitely love to avoid a coverup. I just can't get over how much I don't like the yellow/brown. Maybe if I add leafs to it i'd like it better. I just think the yellow/brown blends in too much with my own skin color. Other than that I absolutely love the hibiscus. I'm just having a hard time envisioning what color I can change the yellow to based on the purple/blue combo. @Gingerninja You're totally fine! I do plan to live with it for awhile until I find a tattoo artist that i'll have zero doubts about. I got the blue/yellow peony tattoo 2 months ago and the hibiscus 4 months ago. I agree it definitely looks professional but the yellow/brown colors were just disappointing. @jaimilyn Thank you! I'll just have to suck it up and not feel so self-conscious about it. P.S: any idea where this style of my tattoo falls into (eg: illustrative, realistic, .. etc) just so I can find similar examples while I research?1 point

Coverup for my coverup :(
Devious6 reacted to Gingerninja for a topic
When did you get the cover-up done? Not to sound harsh but I suggest living with it for a solid year. When you get to a point where you are asking for a cover-up of a cover-up, you need to seriously reconsider what you want, your expectations, how you are communicating with your artist(s)...the entire process. I really like your tattoo. It's well executed and pretty. As Dan mentioned, you could add to it.1 point -

If you are worried start with your tattoo artist. Go see them in person and show it to them. First of all, it doesn't look like there is anything wrong with it from the picture. The yellowing areas are probably bruises. Small dots and discharge may be too much moisturizer. Skin popping up and bubbly, I don't know; I can't see it in your picture. It just looks like you have some pretty heavy scabs.1 point

You did the right thing by going to the doctor. I had something similar that lasted for three months then finally went away. Resist the urge to pick at it and don't over moisturize.1 point -

Oh okey thanks, I was too worried and I went to a dermatologist and she checked and said it's nothing but watch it carefully in following days and come back if you find anything unusual. But you know I am over concerned about it. But thanks for your reply. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

As I said before, it is very hard to tell from your picture but doesn't look infected. Everyone heals differently and many have some plasma discharge - but that generally stops within a day or so. My suggestion is for you to go see your artist and have him/her look at it. And, if it is discharging yellow sticky fluid - pus - then go see a doctor. Immediately. Having someone see it in person is much preferable to us trying to guess from your description and picture.1 point

It's very hard to tell from your picture but if it feels warm, is red or has pus then you should go to a doctor immediately - those are signs of an infection. Of course, you should follow the directions of your artist but 5 days of Aquaphor seems a bit much and, if your tattoo is not infected it may just be swelling a bit from over-use of the Aquaphor. By all means, if you have any of the symptoms above, go to a doctor. If not, you may just want to let it dry out for a day or so and then apply a VERY LIGHT coat of a unscented lotion, like Aveeno, several times a day.1 point

HELP! Question about tattoo healing process???
Gingerninja reacted to Hogrider for a topic
What do you think it is supposed to look like? Maybe it's my ancient eyes, but I don't see what's wrong with it. You know tattoos take more than 5 days to heal, right? It looks like it's bumpy because of scabs and I don't see any yellow.1 point -

well, sadly and unfortunately," really bumpy and has yellow around the tattoo" only means one thing !1 point -
it looks perfectly normal IMO,maybe use a good fragrance free daily lotion like Aveeno, very lightly a couple times a day. otherwise, like I said, looks just fine to me.1 point

If it's your first tattoo, don't use the numbing cream. Rib tattoo is intense, but being your first you won't know any differently. So take the above advice above about preparing your mind and body for the tattoo and you will be fine! If you really are a bit anxious, have a shot or two of liquor to calm your nerves and take it like a champ. Numbing cream is becoming more popular and accessible these days. I'm talking about the high concentration shit that makes you feel nothing, not a light bactine spray or some booze to take the edge off and get you through the hump. People want the tattoo but they don't want to work for it. I don't agree with that because part of the spiritual power of the tattoo comes from earning it, a rite of passage. I do think it has its place for some of the very challenging spots to keep both you and the tattooers momentum going on a big tattoo session. Also, FYI if a strong concentration of topical anesthetic cream is applied incorrectly i.e. left on for too long, too much on the body it can be absorbed into the bloodstream and toxic to your system. You risk a trip to the hospital for health complications. I've heard several stories like this where too much is used and next thing the session is cut short and buddy's in a taxi to the hospital cause his vision suddenly went blurry or the heart starts beating irregularly. Tattooing isn't supposed to be a sunny time on the beach, it is raw and unapologetic and to many of us that is what the beauty and attraction of what a tattoo is. My $0.021 point
