  1. Got this frog on Sunday from Jay Watkins at Spider Murphys. I won my work's fantasy football league this year so I figured putting the pot towards a relevant tattoo would be fun. Super stoked on how this one turned out, Jay's great and always fun to talk to:

  2. Put some work into the 2nd layer last nite and ran over some old tattoo with new. It was an awesome time. Trevor is an old pal from our teenage punk years. We teased him when he was the first of our friends to get some tattoo. And now he's tattooing us 2 decades later. It's really funny. 3 swallows blasted over the background of my 13 year old St. Francis tattoo. All draw on. Used spearmint, lipstick red inks and some old National Yellow pigment for extra cool points. Cheers

  4. stop looking at it with a microscope and enjoy it. I'm sure your mom loves it. wear it with pride and move on to the next tattoo.

  5. The tattoo is already very busy for a small area. If you start adding non-sensical crap in behind the tattoo it will not age nicely and look like a faded colour blob. It will draw the eye away from the text-heart-cathedral-ferriswheel-flowers...see already lots going on. If you ~really really~ want a super cool watercolour tattoo, get a separate tattoo and go with the watercolour style. But I would suggest you first search the forum for others opinions on that particular style of tattoo and why it has many critics. I've seen maybe 1 watercolour tattoo out of hundreds that was done well and looked like a proper tattoo. And it's only because the tattooer was smart enough to put in a proper full outline. But hey I got my tattoos and you can get whatever you want for yours :) My $0.02

  7. Twas my pleasure. Bad experiences with tattoos can be very disheartening, for sure, but as you say there are artists out there who are very talented and do take pride in their work ... I pray that her next experience will be fulfilling! :)

  9. I have had a large and one small cover up done, and IMO no,the pain/healing is no different than the original or any other tattoo.here is the large one I had done,I have even had tattoos on large scars and it didn't feel or heal any different.maybe because you're 10 years older ? I have been getting tattooed since I was 25,and I know that now at 57 getting tattoos seems to hurt a lot more ! LOL I think the only other concern is if it's infected ? or is it just that normal "sun burned" after tattoo feel ?

  10. No one will notice, really! I'd bet that the vast majority of the people have certain spots on tattoo's that aren't exactly perfect (including me). Your tattoo is great. Own it. :)

  11. it's different from person to person and tattoo and ink used, for instance when I get an all black tattoo, there is no plasma buildup under the dermal film i use,and with color tattoos I get all kinds of plasma buildup, also another method I always use now is I always wait 15 to 20 hours after the initial application of the tattoo to put on the dermal film, there is no plasma buildup that way.Anyway, don't worry about "no" buildup,it's normal and just fine IMO.

    Hi

Tattoo scene is smaller than you think worldwide. Threatening legal action isn't going to get you any favours or goodwill, you will be black-listed through word of mouth if your master is well-connected. Perhaps you can return to your master and humble yourself to ask for a second chance. Loyalty is a dying quality in this day and age. You should respect your teacher, but ego often gets in the way for us and we think we don't need the master anymore. If you gave up so easily after 1.5 years because the apprenticeship was so overwhelming for you, why do you want to return to the path of becoming a tattooist?

  15. It's not bad at all. Quit beating yourself up about it. You'll get used to it. It won't go away completely with lasering, so unless you want to cover it up with something else, just leave it and get more tattoos.

  16. Nothing special about it, just the sign of a good artist that knows what they're doing. For that second one, check out Great Lakes Tattoo. Not that they likely couldn't knock out something like that flower, but it's a whole stable of guys crushing bold, "crisp," traditional.

  17. Sorry for your loss. It appears to be a well placed and well executed tattoo. Is it the design you hate, or does it have something deep to do with making your mom's passing really real?

  18. Got some fun ones over the last 6 months or so: Finished up my rib piece with Theo at Spider Murphy's: Scored a walk in with Chris Wielk at Ocean Ave Tattoo: Another walk in with Cody Miller at Blackheart: And got this scropion from Alex Matus when she was guesting at Idle Hand back in September: Took all the images from the respective artists' Instagram page. Have an appointment with Jay Watkins at Spider Murphy's tomorrow, so I'll post that one soon too

  20. Well, I feel like we finally jumped the shark from "casual fans of tattoos" to "oh god I'm spending all my money on tattoos". My wife and I flew from Austin to Los Angeles this past week to get tattooed by Freddy Negrete at Shamrock Social Club. He knocked out this St Michael in about 4 hours, all single-needle. He also did a portrait of my daughter on my wife. Freddy was very cool and the entire shop was awesome. As a side note, Mark Mahoney is probably the nicest tattoo artist I've ever met. He has me convinced to make a return trip out there to get tattooed by him too.

  21. Well, I finally took the plunge and got a forearm tattoo, and I'm glad I did! Here's my Rock of Ages done by Brian Tiger at Screamin Ink Tattoo in N.J. I've gotta say, this is definitely my favorite tattoo. P.S. I'm sorry if it looks crooked, it's almost impossible to get a good pic of my arm.
