  1. Yesterday I attended a very fun Sailor Jerry birthday party at Leviticus Tattoo in Minneapolis. 14 artists, 100+ flash choices, food and drink. Super fun. Anyway, I'm not saying I choose a dagger because it's this months topic but I'm also not not saying that.... Done by guest artist https://www.instagram.com/thomas_titus/

    New to the forum

Hi, I've been lurking around these forums for a few days, and have enjoyed all of the advice and inspiration that you all give here. I have two tattoos. The first was done 13 years ago, and is my brother's name in Japanese on my right forearm. I was really ignorant when it came to tattoos, and so I ended up with a pretty bad tattoo. My second tattoo is a Sanskrit word for non-violence, Ahimsa, that sits on my right chest. I'm stoked to continue collecting tattoos! As of now, I have found a few great artists here in San Diego that I like, and will eventually do a Japanese style sleeve on my left arm, and a traditional sleeve on my right. I do have a question but I'll leave that for my next post. Thanks all! Brett

    Crooked tattoo

I'm kind of concerned that an artist wouldn't have you stand up for placement. Every tattoo stencil I've ever had applied, they had me both look down at it and then insist I stand up and look in a full length mirror. Kinda sketchy they wouldn't have you check standing.

    Opinion wanted

Not really my style, but I like the second artist best out of these options.

    What to do

Leave your brother's alone. The memory is more important than the tattoo.

  7. I reached out to Topper at Philadelphia Eddie's about a potential appointment in April, fingers crossed. And I might check out a local shop in the near future and pick some flash off the wall as soon as I'm not either sick or working.

    Crooked tattoo

This tattoo symbolizes moving forward with an openness to change. And yes I know lol it happens when they're just out there.

  10. I wouldn't have even noticed if you wouldn't have pointed it out, especially now that color's been added. Good solid tattoo.

  11. Love seeing everyone's Friday the 13th tattoos! @oboogie UGH. What is wrong with people? It never ceases to amaze me when people, especially bug guys, think they can push us out of the way. Totally rad that your artist saw what happened and didn't tolerate it. I'm glad that you got a cool cuppa out of it!

  14. Well, my story is nowhere near as interesting as yours @oboogie but, I went in today planning to get something small for Friday the 13th and, after looking at all the cool flash for a while (while waiting) I settled on this reaper with a shotgun. But my artist gave me an extra discount if I got two and I couldn't resist . So I got a cool Native American arrowhead on the other arm which perfectly fits a gap in between two other tattoos that I couldn't figure out how to fill. I love how both of them came out. Still fresh but I'll post a healed pic in a few weeks.

  18. Raven cover up now finished for the moment. A few peony additions and a good luck pentacle for protection and nature connection. What's the thoughts? Plain skin people in sauna will obviously think I worship satan but that already makes me laugh... its nice to get the sauna to yourself

Woohooooooooo!!! 15 hours, 12 of which were inking, the other two were mini cigarette breaks and stenciling and freehand drawing the lotuses, done in two back to back days in Thessaloniki (Greece) Pics were taken a few minutes after the top lotus was done, will upload some pics when it's healed!

    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Got my first leg tattoo by Victor J Webster @ East River Tattoo in NYC yesterday. It's his interpretation of the Bakunawa, the Philippine mythical dragon which devours the moon and causes lunar eclipses.

  24. thanks for the mention @ibradley, i think if you want to make traditional tattoos, you should reference older tattoo flash. for me it gets a little boring to just repaint the older images, though there is nothing wrong with that. i have been applying the brion gysin/william burroughs technique of cut-ups to try to make something new, while staying very rooted in traditional tattoos. there is a great book called Milton Zeis: Tattooing As You Like it that you should check out if you haven't already. I'm including a picture of some of my latest flash, just to give you something to look at.

  25. Great story, @Colored Guy, and cool idea for a thread, @cltattooing. I love the feel of a shop crushed with flash. I've been in a few shops that have next to no flash on the walls, and it always feels very odd to me--even elitist at times. Plus, there's something about seeing artists deal with walk-ins that I really like. The negotiation, the hustle (on both sides of the dummy rail), and the end result.
