  3. Just settled into my new home, a big step for me! My old car smelled like it was going to blow up so I got a newer one. 2016 was so good to me. Had to delay my progress on my tattoos but, Adulting comes first. Hope to finish my current project and hopefully save up and move on to a bigger one!

  6. Got my first leg tattoo by Victor J Webster @ East River Tattoo in NYC yesterday. It's his interpretation of the Bakunawa, the Philippine mythical dragon which devours the moon and causes lunar eclipses.

  7. If you want Japanese style, then you have a plethora of options at the shops listed @Hands On! Garver, Rubendall, Beech, RG, Damien R, Matt Beckerich. Interestingly, Matt Adamson is starting full time at Kings this month and you may be able to get in with him quicker than any of the folks listed above for neo-traditional. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Grez... Here's my peony by Rubendall. Good luck!

    Hey all.

I'm thinking of getting my upper back done. I've wanted something that incorporates all my major gaming characters in one, so I was thinking of each of my characters from all the MMOs i've played in a battle against my favourite monster/boss. I'm not to sure how it would turn out as I was thinking the boss would draw most attention while all my characters were slightly silhouetted. That would be the basic layout idea, the boss up back towering over everyone with all my characters at the front silhouetted. Im more interested in a more realistic appearance (not 100% photo realistic, just not as cartoony as above) I've been googling for Queensland tattooers that I like but if anyone has someone that might be interested in this I'd love to check them out.

  11. Since I've only been getting tattooed since 2014, I think everybody has seen most of these recently, so it feels a little bit weird to submit them again so soon, haha. But I do have some pieces taken from very classic flash! I'm not sure that I ever posted all of them, anyway. All but the last one were done by Greg Whitehead, but I'm looking forward to getting more one-offs like this soon from other people! The shoulder-area bird was my first tattoo, and it's a Percy Waters design. The snake in a flower pot is based on Dietzel flash, the diving girl is a Jensen piece and was actually sort of a filler, the elbow butterfly/rose is...uhh, actually, I'm not 100% sure. Someone said it was Jensen, but I don't remember if that's true. I remember Greg saying that it came from a whole lot of flash from the early 1900s that used to be attributed to a mystery artist, but was later identified as belonging to someone specific...I just can't for the life of me remember who it was. The lady with a snake is a Cap Coleman design, and I love her to bits. The last one was Christopher Ayalin at Liberty, and I got it when I went on a fun tattoo day trip with @beez. A lot of people do flower/snake/dagger stuff, so I dunno...Jensen-ish? I guess? Aside from the color I guess it's still pretty classic traditional subject matter. And now you have seen like half of my tattoos all at once!

  15. Welcome to LST. there are tons of great artists in New York who are more than capable of putting on a beautiful peony. The first few shops that come to mind are Invisible, Adorned, Three Kings, Kings Ave, and Saved. Good luck! Let us know how it goes.

    Cor Mysterium Volume 1

My girlfriend bought me this book along with the finger wave book vol.1 & 2. Now I'm left waiting for mysterium to ship. Good think I have two books to melt my brain until then.

  18. I would agree that Martin Lacasse is absolutely killer at everything he does. A real tattooers tattoo and criminally underrated in either traditional or Japanese. Pretty much everyone in that shop (Jay Goldberg, Gus, Johnny Gues, Scott Smith, etc) would knock out a traditional piece like that. Check out @oldecitytattoo on IG. They don't post a ton, but you can follow to each artist and check em out. Topper at Eddies does great work, as mentioned. I love most of what Pat Haney does. He's a little slicker than what you may be looking for, but I'm sure you can't go wrong with him. He's also opened up a new shop that's a little farther from where you're mentioning, but nothing crazy. Dave Fox is out in the suburbs now. His name isn't the first that comes to mind for this style, but traditional stuff is really underrated. He doesn't put a lot of it out there, but it's solid. Aaron Francione seems fine (I'm not too familiar with him), but I'm just not much of a fan of a lot of what Seven Swords is doing. Although I did recently see a Carlos Perez lady head that I liked.

  22. Been away for a while, had issues with my account and had to open another one. We got a new kitten in May, his name is Ivan. He's a feral rescue at 5 weeks old. A bit of a handful, but everyone loves him. I got my old Ford insured and registered in July, have about 1200 miles on it. Running well and still de-bugging it.

  27. I haven't been getting tattooed much lately because I've been focused on one big piece for the past several months. I expect more traditional one shots in my near future! But here's what I've got so far when it comes to traditional style tattoos, and a little background on each: Eagle and rose by Brian Via at Golden Ages in Lancaster, PA. I wanted something to represent my parents (still alive, not a memorial!). Brian is super laid back and the whole shop is really talented. Also done by Brian, picked off his wall of things he wanted to tattoo. My first skull and not the last. Butterfly done by Antonio Roque in Frederick, MD. Really cool guy especially considering he's kind of "Instagram famous" with over 50k followers...easy to book with, charged me actually way less than he should have (and got a big tip as a result), and no ego at all. Panther and rose by Chad Koeplinger when he came through DC. He's one of my artistic idols and I was kind of star struck to meet him. Fun guy to talk to and I was amazed at his speed (this took less than 2 hours, including all the time we spent talking about movies). But wow does he hurt like no one's business! I wanted him to do this spot (inner bicep) to get it over with as quick as possible, but he's pretty brutal! Anyway, I asked him for a panther and rose and said he could do whatever he wanted with those subjects, so I got my whole inner arm blasted with this.

I really love lady heads but I must admit I'm still dubious about having a straight up, classic lady head done. I think, for me, the issue is that I worry it could come across as a sort of idealized image of self and seem vain, or something. I can't really even express my reservations clearly when it comes to it. A pin-up I really couldn't hack though. Not to criticize those women who have the ovaries to to wear a classic lady head or other straight up image of idealized femininity - I'm not generalizing at all, my reservations are purely based on my own insecurities! Am strongly considering nice big a lady-rose (I think they're called) bush instead. One with a good number faces and busts. This kind of idea but then with a lot more girls some empty roses and more variation in the type of lady head: (By George Burchett on Edith Burchett)

So glad Crispy got a nod on this thread, I love his lady faces. I want to get a pair of them, one on each forearm, but at the moment I'm not entirely sure I am ready to make the commitment to public skin so will probably have to visit him in Australia for them as I believe he is going back soon. This is one of my faves of his:

I'll second Theo Mindell as one of the top lady-headers. I'll probably end up with one from him sometime soon. Also, I didn't see Cris Cleen mentioned in here, but I love his ladies. ALSO, that Dietzel flash on the last page is soooooo good.

These are all beautiful! I really love the way one of my friends, Ian Parkin, does lady heads. I think right now this is my favourite. I posted this up on the Inkslingers blog the other week, but more has been added to this, which I saw the other day. I just haven't had the chance to put up the current picture yet. If you check out the blog here you'll see loads more, I even have one of my own from him. Anyway...
