Also, go to Kelly's instragram. Her chest piece would have won. It's not perfect but it was good. In general I found her to be the most likable contestant. Although Gian was probably the best overall tattooist and plenty likable.

This was the first season I've watched so I don't have the perspective that others do. I'm also biased because Ryan is a local artist so I was happy to see her win for that reason. It did seem to me that the finale process was flawed in bringing three artists having had them all do major pieces, only to eliminate one of them based on the live work they did that day. Still, I enjoyed the season since, as a newcomer to tattooing, it gave me a chance to learn a lot about the craft by listening to the judging process. Oh, so I guess you don't want to see a picture of my personalized/signed coaster that Ryan did for me?

So spoilers I guess... ... Ryan won. I'm irritated. Almost every episode it seemed like she did black and gray stuff, her specialty. I thought Gian was overall the strongest competitor (never in the bottom, versatile in every style) and thought he deserved the win. The girls in general imo were way too egotistical and their skills just didn't match up. I am really irritated though that they didn't even show Kelly's final chest piece. Why ask her to do all that work and put in all that time and make the client suffer all those hours if it won't even appear on TV. And the fact that they penalized Kelly for doing new school when AMERICA VOTED FOR HER TO DO IT.

  4. This has probably been discussed a zillion times, but I couldn't really find anything when I searched. I'm spending a few days in Philadelphia in April and I've been kicking around the idea of a lady liberty and/or patriotic type design, and where better to get a patriotic tattoo than the city they call "The Birthplace of America"? I'll be pretty close by both Seven Swords and Philadelphia Eddie's Chinatown shop, so those are places I'm looking into. I really like the idea of all the history behind Philadelphia Eddie's and I might just get some flash off the walls. I know Pat Haney's in the area too, and while I really want to get something by him someday, I'm not sure if this is the piece I want him to do for me. I'm looking for something really traditional and classically beautiful, not necessarily "slutty," that's not really my thing. Any other suggestions for shops or artists in Philly who would kill a patriotic lady tattoo?

Gian should have won of the final two. Sorry, but a big fat NO to Ryan. I liked Kelly most of the time, and I think she is very talented, but the whole women's alliance was deeply stupid. You are either good or you aren't. Woman schmoman. And I say this as a woman. Naw. Just tattoo and stop talking about your gender.

2nd year in a row that I honestly think the best piece of the day wasn't even allowed to compete. Kelly's American Traditional chest was amazing. I guess they spent the time that they normally would give the third finalist to Dave hanging from hooks and trying to find a way to make that mics sound less like a hot mess in the new finale studio... Bonus points for Oliver taking a huge dump on the (yes, admittedly controversial) watercolor style and every artist who works in it with those "This is how real tattooers do watercolor.." rant.

  8. To elaborate a little more...I think the frontrunner for me so far is Aaron Francione, I love his lady heads. But who knows, you guys might find me someone else I love too. And I don't necessarily have to get just ONE tattoo on my vacation...

Hey everyone! My name is Emily. I'm 26 years old, originally from Michigan, currently living in Florida. After a solid year of researching and reflecting, I finally got my first tattoo three weeks ago! You can imagine I sifted through a lot of shit information on tattoos and tattooing during that time, so I'm happy to have landed here at last. I've been lurking for the past few weeks and the trove of solid advice I've found here has done wonders for easing my numerous healing process anxieties. I'm also excited to have found a community of tattoo enthusiasts since my husband and most of my friends are completely uninterested in tattoo culture. I'm looking forward to joining the community, continuing to learn about the craft, and continuing to collect tattoos. Here's my new tattoo by Myra Oh out of Jacksonville, Florida. fresh: three weeks healed: close up (also three weeks healed; forgive my leg hair, I have no idea when it's okay for me to shave again): I'm a pharmacist currently pursuing advanced training in toxicology, so all of the plants in the tattoo are toxic.

I have lyrics from Hot Water Music, Jawbreaker, and Minor Threat on me. The HWM ("Live your heart and never follow") and Jawbreaker ("Yell it out before it kills you") are a little longer than I would go now. I got them when I was pretty young, and they're a little cluttered. I still love them, but I wish I'd approached them a little differently. The Minor Threat one is just "Out of Step" in a banner around a dagger/rose. I'm pretty sure it's in my gallery.

You have to engage on other threads for a while before you can post in other forums. I have some Johnny Cash lyrics and John Lennon lyrics incorporated into my tattoos.

    Your First Tattoo

I got my first tattoo 6 days ago. A traditional sailor jerry bald eagle with American flag. I plan to add a lot more around it though. I never understood what drove someone to get full sleeves...now I do . Edit: The first picture is fresh, the second is 6 days into healing.

I got my first about six months ago...a month shy of my 61st birthday. Got my second last Saturday. After many years of finding excuses not to do it, I finally decided it was time to make it happen. Where do I go from here? I have no clue...but you never know.
