    Latest tattoo lowdown.....

I haven't posted anything in a long time but this is a tattoo I got in October by Scott Sylvia. I plan on booking another appointment with him on Thursday. I'll be sure to post pics. I think I attached the pictures correctly. Let me know if you see it! Thank you all for looking.

@Machcekborrach That's awesome; please keep us posted on progress. His tigers are so awesome. The one he did on the True Love doc made me fall in love with them years ago. I'm really thinking about having him do my stomach as well with a tiger and a snake fighting. The fact that you say he's fast makes me think that might be a good thing for the belly.

  6. @jnin That rules! I have a snake with roses from Scott, and you definitely can't go wrong with them. That rose is a little different than what you often see out of him, and it's absolutely killer. Also, who did that girl head underneath? I've got a guess or two...

  8. Thanks for the reality check/confirmation @Hands On! Takashi Matsuba's (traditionaltool) doing it. I've got another piece by him, and am looking forward to this tremendously. It'll be Jikokuten, the Buddhist deity/protector of the East and the heavenly musicians. Reading these posts makes me less nervous: the sense of shared suffering. Thanks again.

  9. welcome, @scottyg! congrats on going for the back! you've found the right place for advice. best thing i could say is to skim thru this thread from the beginning. there's a lot of great advice from some of the LST veterans and even some well known tattooers who no longer post here. there's many treasures to be found among these here threads. you have good reason to be nervous. it's going to hurt like hell. but it'll all be worth it in the end! who's doing your back?

  10. First time posting. Have an appointment to get started on a traditional Japanese back piece in a few weeks. 1st session will be 4 hours outlining. Any suggestions on how to sit through this? I do kind of zone out/in on tattoos, but 4 hours on my back I'm nervous af. Also concerned about aftercare/not scabbing/clothing. Sorry if this has been discussed but could use ideas. Cheers!

@Machcekborrach Awesome. Do you have pics of what you have so far? Brian Bruno is so awesome, and I think incredibly underrated. I'd love to have him to my back or my stomach.

  17. I was definitely unable to contain myself the last two months. -Dan Sinnes scribbled on this locust yokai at Temple. I'm so pumped on how it came together. He posted a photo of the draw on for hilarity. -Valerie Vargas did the Oni/Gorilla fight on my arm at the Bay convention. I liked the idea of the eastern/western imagery clashing. My right arm is all american traditional patchwork and my left is semi-american traditional style patchwork with Japanese imagery. This has already healed ridiculously well. Henning did the namakubi at the Bay convention. I had been waiting a few years to catch Henning at the convention when he had space from his larger works and this was the year. This is absolutely one of my favorite tattoo's. My girlfriend is definitely not as pumped. I'm blown away by his skill and kindness.

  19. Got back from the shop a while ago, came back with two new pieces. First and foremost, something I've always wanted, an American traditional panther! I love the way it turned out. And while I was there I got this cool little smoking tophat-skull to go with my cowboy skull on the opposite shoulder.

  25. These are both a year or more old at this point, but I never actually put them in this thread. The death's head moth was done by Oliver Peck when he guested at Kadillac Tattoo Mt. Airy (Philadelphia) last summer. Not the best picture, but he ended up slipping a lot of hot pink in there that wasn't at all what I'd expect from him. In the end, I loved it and was happy with how it came out. Getting tattooed by Oliver is as great as you'd expect. I had just gotten my shin done by Scott the week before and mentioned in our emails; Oliver came barging in yelling, "Lemme see that Scott tat!" right off the bat. After we were done, he actually took his shirt off and showed me a ton of his tattoos from Scott, Trevino, Rassier, Stell, etc. So fucking awesome. The torch moth was done by Keith Reed at X-Treme in West Chester, PA shortly after they moved to their new location. This was a "thank you" tattoo for helping them move. Keith is the best. Just an every day, no-bullshit, hard-working tattooer. Without him, I wouldn't know shit about tattoos. Not the best pic in the world, but @Dan and I were chatting back and forth and I realized I should probably upload em. Once that Grez knee you can see half done gets finished, I'll hit up the squidpants thread.

  29. Got this rad biker skull guy from @sour_jon Jon Gray at the Moncton Convention yesterday. Turns out its not a german SS skull with a stick grenade through the head, but a biker guy with a piston through the head. Shows what I know about bikes/cars! Still love it. Going back today to knock out a few more.

  31. And, finally, in the daylight. I am really stoked. This says exactly what I want it to say...without stating it blatantly. For me, it is awesome.

  32. Planning on getting my back done by Dave Cummings in a year. Im going to discuss it with him while he tattoos my arm at the convention. Im not sure what I want yet. Im thinking either Benten, some sort of giesha imagery, or just a dragon. Ill probably go with the latter. I always lived dragon back pieces, and I LOVE the one he did on Halter. Im grateful that he's fairly close to New Brunswick, its only a 1 hour plane ride, although it would be nicer if I lived in Montreal. I am nervous about the pain. Im a pretty good sitter, but when I got my chest done, the pain and discomfort was unbearable. 4 hour sit. One shot. Might have to do with the fact I have almost no muscle on my chest, the tattooer who did it is slow and heavy handed, and it was right on my sternum. I dont know. I guess Ill have to just suck it up. Recently I found that not listening to music and not being on my phone makes the experience much better. You kinda go into a meditative state when you dont destract yourself. I fell asleep during my last leg tattoo.

  33. I've had 2 consecutive days with Chris Crooks from White Dragon Tattoo in Belfast. First day he did all the line work (7 hours) and the second day he did background and some shading (6 hours). It was an amazing experience with a phenomenal artist and down to earth great guy. I'm blown away by the quality and speed of his work. He put a video up on his instagram doing the piece more justice. I will be flying back to Belfast in December for the continuation of this piece.
