Sorry if pics are huge (although I don't think dog pictures could ever be a problem), but my boyfriend and I adopted a dog recently! Her name is Maggie, she's a terrier mix. Her owner was going into a nursing home and had to surrender her to a rescue. She's very sweet and very lazy.

  5. cuts, deep scrapes, surgery, yes, can possibly damage tattoos, but getting slugged with a fist or running into a door,no,it will not affect a tattoo IMO,it's just gonna hurt. . I had broke my wrist a several years ago and had surgery and the scar fucked up a little part of my tattoo, but a little touch-up and it was fine.(see below)

    My First Tattoo.

Greetings, I hail from Mumbai, India. A friend suggested this website to acquire guidance, knowledge and experience before getting inked. (At least for the first time.) Feels good to be here, I am mainly focusing on a Dragon themed tattoo as my first ink. Regards.

  9. Just areas of healing skin that have a more milky look - had the same effect with my first tattoo. It seems to go away quickly as the skin heals.

I fast forward through the drama every week. Oh, and I'd never, ever be a human canvas unless it was for one of the judges. Then, I'd be all over *that*.

  11. Yup, I understand. There are lost of areas where the colors are muted by "onion skin" and I know those will settle out as the healing process continues. But, there are some places where the ink just isn't there - mostly in areas on the red flag stripes and the sun rays. It could just be that it was hard for the artist to see well since I know the skin got irritated and red. My first one needed just a little touch up as well. I fully expected it. And, I agree....it is an awesome tattoo!

  12. That happens with me with certain colors, too, @Devious6. It's odd, but it is easy enough to touch up.
    1 point
  13. @Devious6 really you gotta give it 4-6 weeks before you make any real judgments on how it settles - hang in there - you've got yourself a nice tattoo

  14. When my wife and I met in the late 1960s, we had no interest in tattoos. We were still dating a few years later, when articles about tattooing started to pop up in magazines and newspapers, and I was becoming interested. I struck up a conversation with her about it, and she jumped in, suggesting that we get matching tattoos. I had started to think that tattoos on women were rather attractive, so I thought it was quite cool that she wanted one. But I was also quite shocked, because (I’m embarrassed to confess here that I thought this) I didn’t think she “was the type of girl would would get a tattoo!” Today, she has four tattoos, I stayed at one + some background added a few years later, until I recently started planning a back piece. Today I look at those first tattoos on me, and on her and I smile. Its hard to explain. They are still there over 40 years later, after everything we have gone through, a constant. It really means something. And I’m glad she was “the type of girl who would get a tattoo,” because I still do find them quite attractive on women, and it has been sort of “icing on the cake” for us. Looking back, I realize it was amazingly serendipitous that I connected with a woman at that time, when tattoos were pretty rare, who would want to have tattoos, even though tattooing was not on the radar for either of us when we met. I feel kind of lucky. It is hard to imagine not being with her. But if something were to happen to her and I had to form a new relationship with someone, I’m tempted to say that she would have to be tattooed, partly because I find that attractive, but also to understand me, and why I want a back piece. But at my age, there are not a lot of tattooed sixty-something ladies out there, and relationships are so much complex than that, that I’m not sure it is realistic to put that kind of limitation on choice of partner. Comments here reinforce that plainskins and tattooed folks can have great relationships. ... and @Gingerninja - Like Viagra? Yup...

    I'm going back in!

After 3 1/2 years of pretty steady tattooing, usual every month to six weeks, I finished two sleeves, chest panels and full back. I was pretty burned out, so I took about 1 1/2 years off, but went in today for a consult. We're going to do big a piece that goes from my right ankle to my torso and will tie in with my chest panel and back piece. I really needed some time to sit with what I had, can't wait to start.

  17. Keep in mind that you will probably need to cover this with something 4-5 times the size to really hide it. And you'll likely need a design that can work in/around this tribal to hide it effectively, unless you fade it further with lasering. Luckily there is enough negative space that a creative and clever artist will have plenty to work with.

  18. I'm really late to this conversation but let me chime in the only time I ever suggest someone getting a tattoo surgically cut out is if the tattoo is smaller than a typical pinky finger nail or smaller than a dime, and it's in a portion of the body where pulling skin together isn't difficult. I.e., doing this on top of a foot, the side of a wrist, top of shin, etc. are not ideal places. Aside from that, in an event like a tummy tuck, tattoos are often cut out when the removal of skin happens for that procedure. The handful of clients I've had come through my office who went and tried the surgical route had horrible results and all wish they didn't do it. I've had laser treatments, I do it for a living to other people. It's expensive, slow and painful, I totally get that. I'm the least pushy "sales" type guy you'll ever meet. But that the end of the day you have a tattoo you don't love, don't do something else to your skin because you 1. can't wait or 2. can't afford to do it right because in the end, you'll end up a few years down the line not loving the change. Most clinics don't make you pay up front for the entire process, in fact it's pretty rare. The first handful of treatments should be 5-6 weeks apart, at a minimum. Based on the $1200 you were quoted, that basically means you need to save roughly $20 / week to afford laser (based on the average person needing 10-12 treatments divided by $1200). And here's the other real truth you should know; Waiting longer between treatments will ultimately get you better results.

  20. I have had many tattoos applied with both types of machines and I have never noticed a difference in healing.IMO it depends more on the artist's style and our bodies and where on our body the tattoo is,and how we handle the aftercare.

    I'm going back in!

Sure, the plan is for a Samurai on my thigh, two tigers climbing up either side of my calves towards the Samurai and a dragon coming down towards the Samurai from my ribs. That was the general idea and he'll fill in the rest between now and the time we get started and as we go along. Jesse Tseronis at Sakura Tattoo in Winchester is my artist. He did the rest of my work. I'm one of the few that stick with a single artist. I know there are other great artists out there, but I just haven't felt the need to go elsewhere.

I'm to the point I'd rather just fast forward to the tattoos and skip the crap between. I get tired of the "game", the alliances, purposely trying to submarine the other contestants w/the skull picks. If you can't win by doing what you're there to do, and let your work speak for itself, then you shouldn't be there. A couple years ago, I happened upon another tattoo show..Tattoo Titans or something. It had Ami James on it and a pretty tattoo model. But it was just three artists, they tattooed and they either went home or stayed. I set it to record on the dvr but there was only one season--I'm guessing b/c there wasn't all the gawd awful drama.

And most of the 'art' wasn't worth looking at anyway. I think a good artist should be able to produce a good tattoo on ANY of these challenges. Maybe not perfect, or the best, but at least good. Unfortunately a lot of the work on this show is just awful. I'd be embarrassed to tattoo it or wear it. The first season, the contestants had a reasonable expectation of receiving a good tattoo, not being able to imagine the awful work that was about to ensue. But anyone who watched the first season, and saw some of those miserable mutts doing tattoos that looked like they held the machine in their feet, and went on the show anyway deserved what they got.

  27. This - all this... Honestly watching the number of long-time valuable posters (many of whom were artists) disappear I'm guessing is for the same reason I rarely post - I'm tired of the snark. if it's lame ignore it and let the post sink. I'm here to talk good tattoos - not torture those with bad ones.

  28. haha what i meant was that the latest tattoo lowdown is really what its all about - people getting tattooed and showing those tattoos off - like if this forum could only have one thread - this would be it :) i think i was deep in the ipa's when i posted that though so i understand it sounds like a confusing post :)

  30. My big piece was finished last night. Sooo now becomes the deliberation of what I want to do next, where I want to do it. I'm stumped. Was going to talk to my artist last night but I was so focused on pretending it didn't hurt.. Husband has put his leather armor on hold and went w/a new artist, starting this tiger. He loves the new artist so that's great. A dragon is going on the back of the calf there and everything will be in color.

  31. It's been my experience that people find the money for the things they want. Also,part-time jobs are easier to find than full-time jobs - the companies don't have to pay benefits. It's your ink, I'm just pointing out that if you want it lazered off bad enough, you'll find a way. Not trying to call you out specifically, but most people will spend more time figuring out the 500 reasons they can't do something than figuring out the 1 way they can do something.

Very nice! I'm in Austin also. Kinda want the artist completing my first sleeve (Scott Ellis, Triple Crown) to do other arm. Kinda want to mix it up Jason Brooks is definitely on the short list. Like this a lot.

  33. I noticed that I appear to be logged out when visiting the home page. But as soon as I continue to any sub page, I'm signed in as myself again (without actively signing in!). Odd, but means that I don't actually have to sign in, just click anywhere. Does this work for anyone else with the sign out problem, too? On a sidenote, it just so happens that right now, instead of being signed out, I appear to be Graeme on the homepage. Back to omeletta on any other page. I can even go back and forth. Funny that.
