I haven't posted on the forum in probably over a year. I haven't been tattooed since February therefore I'm not on here. But I did manage to grab two pictures from an old Navy guy today who got these in Japan in the late 50's. The pink and blue has held up well in the pin up.

When I see other people's tattoos, I don't usually look at them thinking "that would look better if it was reworked." I was simply observing the beauty of a tattoo that was done over 50 years ago and has been left untouched since. Tattoos obviously can be reworked, as shown above. But I enjoy seeing them like they were intended.

  6. Do it! Get a big ol' fat wizard flipping the bird so that everyone will know how siked you are on your tummy and how little you care what they think. Or something else that maybe you want to get, but whatever.

@marley mission Yeah Chris has an auto reply which says he almost exclusively takes black and grey now, and likely won't get back to everyone who emails him. I've seen quite a few raving reviews on various sites, and everyone seems to agree that he's a good guy. I've waited years, so two months is nothing. If I hear back from either of them, I'll keep you guys updated, but they're both great artists, and I would think both have pretty long waiting lists. And don't worry, I won't base my decision off of a wait list alone.

  12. @Musashi yes, do go for it. I've made a good start on my belly and it looks so, so much better. The damage on the untattooed skin is less noticeable and I feel much better for it too. After two comedy-bellied pregnancies the skin was fucked. Crepey in places, stretch marks, weird stuff with the navel. I almost did't dare to get it out to see if it was tattoo-able but the women on the Ladies Thread helped me grow some ovaries and crack on with it. I think it was pretty hard work to tattoo, it'd probably have been quicker and easier if i'd been a bit heavier (like I am at the moment, the photo is older) but the colour saturation is even and consistent throughout. The textural differences are still apparent but much less obvious. This is a great thread and here's my belly

    Upcoming Tattoos

While heading back from the beach we stopped in (unannounced) at Bell Rose Tattoo in Daphne, Al. Sean Hermann took time out of his busy afternoon to visit with us. Super gracious host, and I'm on his books for July '17! http://www.thebellrosetattoo.com/sean-herman Only a year to wait, lol.

  17. @Reed yeah wasnt sure what kind of wait list chris had - I've never been tattooed by him but I have been tattooed at the Immortal shop in Clinton a few times by Jamie Sawyer - like I said though - he did a whole sleeve - color - Marvel themed - on this local guy - when I first saw it it was several years healed and it looked amazing in person - I believe he does mostly black and grey now - and as you can see on his IG he seems pretty comfortable with that type of tattooing - I've also heard he's a super guy from my friend and Jamie - anyway - good luck - remember - whoever you choose - the wait list part should be last on your list of factors - especially when you have such a detailed piece in mind - enjoy

Dang, both of those guys do amazing black and gray work! Looks like really long waitlists for Chris Adamek, but I'm sending them both messages to see what they say. Nice piece Sullivan, I think he's really proud of it, I've come across at least three different pictures of it... haha

  20. We have many wild blackberrys, and a bunch of rasberrys that are either wild or spread from a long-ago resident in the area (story goes that the hermit/mountain man that owned this side of the mountain had a brother living with him who was an amateur horticulturist. There are evergreens around where his cabin stood that are not native to the area. All bushes seemed full and near ripe one day, stripped bare the next. I suspect lot's of critters with belly aches. Devious, we have huckleberrys up in the mountains. 1/3 the size of blueberrys and 3X the flavor! Problem is, there are natives that love them, too. And right about the time the berrys ripen, those natives are very hungry! One person picks while the other stands lookout.

Welcome! I think you have a cool idea if you can find the right artist to execute it. The way you're describing it and the way you want it to fit your body, the first thing I thought of is finding someone capable of doing kind of the more organic type of biomech on you (bio organic?). I don't really know any tattooers in the Philadelphia area so I can't recommend anybody, but for inspiration check out Jeff Croci in SF because I recently saw an in progress sleeve he's working on that's this really cool bio-woodland thing and it was super rad. As far as wanting the artist to connect with the personal aspects of the tattoo, I'd advise you not to concern yourself too much with that. I've once had an artist ask me about what I wanted to get from a tattoo, and I view that as exceptionally rare. You want somebody you can get along with as a person, because you'll be spending many sometimes challenging hours with them, and you need somebody who has the artistic skill set to capably pull off what you want, but I'd not get too hung up on making sure that the artist gets every last personal aspect and what it represents.

  22. Out this morning picking blueberries. This year has been tremendous - we've got about 20 bushes and they have been loaded with berries. We're at the point where we are just picking them to give them to friends and family - way more than we can use or even freeze. Not sure why it's been so good - haven't had a lot of rain until the last two days. Perhaps the 11 hives of honey bees is helping. Wanna come pick some?

  23. Words alone, no matter how they are tattooed, tend to be a waste of real estate. Only you can decide if that's what you want to do. White ink often turns yellow, so I'd avoid a lot of it. Best talk to an artist.

  26. Don't make the same mistake twice. It shouldn't be that hard to find a design that will cover it. You just have to go a lot bigger and bolder. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  30. Go for it. The way I see it, if the way your tattoo looks is your biggest problem once you get to that age, then you'll have lived a good life.

  31. If you go big and bold it's going to look fucking rad. Tattooed flesh looks better than non-tattooed flesh. Fat doesn't figure into it at all.

actually, it was the recent Lady Heads (and the lack of black women in it) that reminded me about this piece. Erica Flannes:

    Trash Polka?

Just found this thread! I like the stuff that the Buena Vista Tattoo Club puts out. I wouldn't get it, but a well executed tattoo in that style would most definitely catch my eye/interest over a traditional style tattoo if I saw it on someone in person.

    Trash Polka?

It's not my thing personally but I'm all for pushing the envelope with techniques, I guess it has it's place in tattooing. Understanding what Stewart says, I also think some of the 'new skool' stuff is really stunning and tattoos are obviously personal so if someone wants a star wars or streetfighter sleeve for example then that has a meaning to the person so why not have it look as shit hot as possible? I don't think then it is being done to be original/different. No they don't look like tattoos in the traditional sense but are valid all the same imo. I am a massive fan of both traditional and newer styles, which can lead to another question: do you think you can mix new skool & traditional styles on one person? Like could you have a anime type sleeve and then an 'old school' arm for example?
