Welcome! One of the first things you'll notice about this group is that lots of us tend towards bigger tattoos. So, I'm going to say go bigger, bolder and on the ribs. Back of the arm is prime real estate...save it for another tattoo. My two cents.3 points -

Sorry, buddy but my thought is that you can do better. You found a forum that has a tag line of "Get Good Tattoos". This is a passionate group of people who have invested 1000's of hours in their art and 10's of 1000's of dollars in tattoos. Plus, most folks have tattoos that they regret. You have a great body - put something badass on it. @Rhythm2 points -

Please tell me you aren't getting "1 of 1" tattooed on you? If so: I hope that's just a placeholder. But you never know what the kids are getting nowadays. If you're actually getting an image, I would suggest either ribs or more of the shoulder/bicep area. The back of the arm can be pretty visible and disrupt the flow of any future arm tattoos you may plan on getting. Ribs are a tough spot to sit through, but it isn't as visible so it makes it a little easier to dip your toes into the world of tattoos. But whatever, get what you want where you want it.2 points -
Help me w/ my tattoo

I can't offer suggestions of where to go since I know nothing about Spain, but I would suggest as far as subject matter, don't get anything related to your dad's health problems. No one (including him) wants to be reminded of that all the time. There's more to him than his condition. Find a positive way to spin it: maybe you want to say that he's brave or strong, in which case a ferocious animal might be the way to go. Maybe you have some fond memories of your dad that could be showcased by something beautiful and delicate like a flower. Maybe you could get an image of something that reminds you of your dad: did he carry a pocket knife, have a favorite hobby, go on family vacations, etc? Think of the good times and stuff that reminds you of him and something will come to you.2 points -
My unsolicited opinion: get a classic Japanese tattoo theme to represent that sentence you want. It'll be awesome and you won't have to worry about a poor translation. What I really mean is: GET A TIGER! Or a tiger fighting something. Or growling at the (unholy) wind. Or lightening. Lots of lightening.2 points

That's because it's a terrible, useless design. I'm sure it has some deep meaning to you and that's great, but it's a completely boring image with no point to it. First of all, EVERYONE who sees it will want to know the "story" which will get old quick. They do it even with tattoos that are obviously just awesome flash picked off the wall, they will certainly do it with an esoteric type thing like this. Second of all, what happens if someday you see a big, beautiful tattoo like this: Or this: And think to yourself "That's so cool, I'd like something like that" but you've already got crap cluttering up your arm or rib (whichever you go with). These are huge projects and you're just throwing something in the middle of the space they need to work. If you're already planning multiple tattoos, you need to think about the usage of space and maximize what you have. I really suggest just going for the better artist and getting the better piece you're imagining. It can be a shock to the system to suddenly see yourself with a huge tattoo, especially if this is your first, but in the long run, you'll be so much happier.1 point -
So here is my progress. I promised myself a big bright sleeve as my entrance into your world. This is it after 2 sittings, about 5 hours total. I love it and can't wait for my next sitting which isn't until September. The plan is for a full sleeve of flowers and critters and stuff. The lilly will be getting coloured in next. Humming birds and butterflies to follow.1 point

Oooo...what's the bigger tattoo and are you on his/her list yet? I'd invite you to consider getting something bigger if you are serious about dipping your toe in the water. There is so much good info on this forum and check out the photos in the gallery, too!1 point -
Actually I was thinking of not leaving only the text. That sentence means something to me of course, and was translated from a cousin of mine that was born and lived some years in Japan. But I was thinking about envolving the text with some kind of "wind" I don't know. I just feel that the text only would be kind of maybe boring. But I never thought about putting only an image, and I liked the lightning idea a lot :D Thanks a lot for your help. SStu and oboogie thanks for your help too. Since I am bit unexperienced on this I also want to make sure I am making it right.1 point

As I've said in a previous post, I would love for my mom and dad to see my tattoos. Whether they liked them or not. But I lost dad in '78 and mom in '93. Make peace as you can, because they won't be here to love or hate these peripheral things some day.1 point

What are tattoo appointment essentials?
NearFantastica reacted to Dan for a topic
so what ? why is that an issue here ? what is the problem with someone asking a question ? what about new members ? or people that don't come here everyday ? I've been here 3 years and have not seen a thread about this topic.even if it has been asked multiple times, new input or reminders or new ideas are always good IMO.1 point -

Who better than Chris Garver to fill a crucial spot on my forearm? I requested his rendition of a phoenix inspired by a line drawing in Ed Hardy's latest book, "Drawings for Tattoos." Aside from that, I told him to do it however he wants. I guess he wanted to make it perfect and pink. "Well... it's more of a coral." Either way, I'm digging it and I feel much more complete!1 point

I am somewhat of a weirdo in that I look forward to ordeals of all types. I prefer full day sessions because of the ordeal aspect more than the results. I used to run marathons for the same reason. Stay up for weeks at a time, hunger strikes, you name it. I have a masochistic streak or something. Not for intensity, but for endurance. I don't know if this came from my past (child abuse survivor) or whether it is just an innate aspect of my character. Anyway, does this resonate with anyone?1 point
