Latest tattoo lowdown.....
Kingdomhearts25 and 4 others reacted to Padji for a topic
Took me way too long to post this. Got a pretty nice start on the chest by Chris Stuart in Charlotte back in early June. Hopefully get the rest finished at the Pagoda City convention. Couldn't recommend Chris highly enough. Great experience in the shop. He's since moved to his new place in midtown which looks awesome Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk5 points -

I think it looks real tough and you should leave it alone. A badass pirate ship would look cool with that.2 points -

I think you can post other threads after 10 posts on the forum. And I don't think that will work well as a tattoo. Too many fine lines that will thicken and blur with time, leaving you with a black blob in a few years time. Even if you did that as a massive backpiece, it's just too many lines too close together. What may work better is something like Ron Henry Well's smoky/drippy designs (pictured is an example), still sort of abstract and giving that fading in/out look that the drawing has, but with shading, which will hold up infinitely better. I would suggest finding a really good, creative artist, and giving them free reign to come up with something inspired by that picture. We can offer suggestions maybe if you say where you're located.1 point -

And it's not for me! :) Dry healing was problematic for me...took ages to heal. Never again.1 point -
So good! Dane is such a funny guy. When i was getting tattooed by Giacomo, he kept looking over his shoulder and telling him how much he fucked up and how much im going to regret the tattoo he was doing on me haha. Needles to say the tattoo turned out perfect ;)1 point

I don't get it. Go into any shop and pretty much any tattooer worth getting tattooed by is going to have a sketchbook or binder full of ideas they'd love to tattoo. Likewise, pretty much any tattooer worth getting tattooed by is going to continually try to push their boundaries and try to improve and be a better tattooer with each tattoo they do. I know that there's been plenty of experimentation with techniques and materials on my skin, because that's a normal day-to-day part of tattooing and getting tattooed. If you want to encourage artists walk into a good shop with money in hand. This just sounds like a bunch of pretentious horseshit. Good luck.1 point

Got this insanely awesome cat head on July 8th at Congress St Tattoo in Portsmouth. Man I love it so much. Was such a great day (and night)!!!! I love Chad. He is the greatest and I'm always bummed when he leaves, but luckily for those of us in NH, he visits quite often. Cant wait to see him and Jason Scott in Montreal.1 point

Orchard Street and the LES offers a plethora of goodness. For food, Russ and Daughters is almost right across the street from Invisible. Doughnut Plant is a quick walk on Grand. Megan Massacre's place is on Orchard as well as is the Great Frog. Chinatown is a trip to walk around in...especially where it meets Little Italy. King Avenue is on Bowery...as is the Bowery Ballroom. You may want to check to see who's playing during your stay! If you've never been to Times Square, do it. Swirling mass of humanity but it's good to see! @Hands On1 point -
My must haves are a bottle of Powerade or something similar and a packet of mints or tic tacs. I don't usually drink tons during the tattoo (but I do drink like a sponge for 2-3 days prior) to avoid having to take frequent toilet breaks, but sip on the Powerade every time I get the chance. I also bring a chocolate bar for emergency use, although the only time it's actually been eaten during or shortly after the tattoo was when following a 4 hr session on my forearm my friend came in for her first (10-minute) tattoo and promptly fainted :D. She had not eaten anything all day and this was at about 2 pm, so yeah, be sure you eat well before a tattoo!1 point

Yes. It looks good, and it will look even better with more stuff around it. I know this from experience! Do not stress, but carry on :) No regerts, and all that, lol1 point

This is good advice. Find a different artist you like and don't look back. Unless you want to laser it off and start fresh which I do not recommend. What you have looks good. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point -

Full Back Piece Experience Thread
FXRrich reacted to Matej Haviar for a topic
Hey all, Today I started my back piece with Scott Rusnak out of Lucky Strike Tattoo in Edmonton, Alberta. We are doing something a little out of the traditional notion of Japanese tattooing--a large octopus with some of his rad lightning laid over top. This is only my third tattoo (the other's being only palm sized jammers) and after my four-hour linework sit today, I am humbled. All of the spots feel like bad spots, but now a couple hours after things are feeling good and I'm looking forward to the next sit where we will finish the linework and start some shading, hopefully. We're planning on bringing it down to the knees with some rocks and heikegani crabs. The bare patch near my left shoulder will also probably be filled with some more water and another crab. Ultimately, this first experience was intense but totally manageable and very rewarding.1 point -
I don't know what to tell you. You made a comment. I replied. If you don't like responses on your comments, you probably shouldn't post comments. Just try and relax a bit. My point is this: Smaller pieces are usually paid by the piece. Larger pieces are by the hour. That's just a fact.1 point

New Here, Old Guy
Hands On reacted to Intomyskin for a topic
Hello All! I've been reading this site for some time to get information, and it has been really valuable in that way, so I decided to join and share. I'm a 60 something married male, an architect by profession, who got a very small, very hidden tattoo in the early 1970s, added a little to it several years later...and then stopped. However I became totally enamored with the art of tattooing, but couldn't bring myself to get what I really wanted until only the last few years. So, I'm about to embark on a full Japanese back piece, extending to my upper thighs, and quarter or half sleeves, extending partially onto my chest. How I got to this point is a long story, wrought with the angst of doubt, fear, and perhaps way too much self-analysis. But I love to write (even though I am a bit long-winded), so I started a blog. You can read my tattoo story here. This is a huge step for me. I exist in a world where I have no tattooed friends or colleagues – Zero (Well, actually one friend, a lady with two tiny tattoos on her wrists). But basically no one around me except my wife has any interest in tattoos, and generally everyone around me views tattooing negatively. I feel pretty alone in this interest. I'm hoping that here I can find a community, support, and some "tattoo friends" with whom I can share my love of the art. I view tattooing with great reverence. I think that the ability to transform your skin into a work of art that will be part of you forever is a pretty powerful concept. I could never say that to my friends without them thinking I'm insane, but I hope there are people here who feel similarly. Looking forward to communing with you all!1 point
