hi and welcome, like was said, skin tone has nothing at all to do with blowouts, blowouts can happen fro many reasons, but not color or tone of skin, blowouts can happen from the artist pushing too hard, it can happen to even the very best artists, it can happen on certain types of thin skin(like base of front /side of necks,or soft thin skin anywhere on the body) it can happen to old guys like me because of age, it can happen from the artist stretching the skin too much during the tattoo, but going back to very "pasty" or white-ish skin, that's actually the best skin tone for tattoos.especially color tattoos. that's also why 50spf is our best friend and the very best advice we can give you is to carefully choose the right artist.2 points

I like all of the seasons, just hate snow and ice. I guess summer is my favorite since I get the most motorcycle riding in, but Spring and Fall riding are usually more enjoyable. The only summer that I hated was the one I spent in upstate New York. Nothing was air conditioned and we couldn't even find a fan to buy (all sold out) back in '73.2 points

Orchard Street and the LES offers a plethora of goodness. For food, Russ and Daughters is almost right across the street from Invisible. Doughnut Plant is a quick walk on Grand. Megan Massacre's place is on Orchard as well as is the Great Frog. Chinatown is a trip to walk around in...especially where it meets Little Italy. King Avenue is on Bowery...as is the Bowery Ballroom. You may want to check to see who's playing during your stay! If you've never been to Times Square, do it. Swirling mass of humanity but it's good to see! @Hands On2 points -
my first trip to NYC is finally coming this weekend! Jondix on Sunday and Garver on Monday!! I need to figure out what to do on Saturday, Monday morning, and Tuesday... food, galleries, museums, i think... and maybe a stop by smith street. i'll be staying with a buddy in huntington, but if anyone has a couch closer to the city, i'd be willing to fork over a fee! ;) i might have to dig thru old threads on couch surfing.2 points

Booked in with Chad Koeplinger in September!2 points -
Been a while since I have been on the forum... If anyone is in Brooklyn between now and August 1, check out the Jondix/David D'Andrea show at the Three Kings Gallery on Manhattan Avenue (Greenpoint). They did a great job pairing those two up, and I got to meet Jondix (I did not manage to play it cool, c'est la vie). The opening last night was fun. They have t-shirts, prints and (of course) the art all available. Everything is very reasonably priced.1 point

Hey, Courtney. Welcome! Enjoy your journey. Oh, and about the eating thing that @Kurgana mentioned. That's huge. Eat before you go and bring sweets with you.1 point -

@skywalker Welcome. If you check out my gallery, you will see I'm also pale as a ghost. I have zero blowouts. I don't think there is any correlation. Looking forward to seeing your tattoos!1 point

Welcome, Chris Collins work looks quite nice in the traditional style. You may also want to try to get in with pedro_soos who seems to be doing a guest spot (visit to the shop) in August. As for advice, closely follow the aftercare advice given by the artist who does your tattoo, and take no advice from anyone or anywhere else! Once you have ten tattoos that have healed well do what works for you, but everyone will have suggestions, ignore them. Post a photo once you get something.1 point

Mark, thanks for sharing. Losing parents and aging parents are so hard. Thinking positive thoughts for you and your mom. I'm dealing with similar issues on my side. It's all consuming... This is the first time that I haven't been able to solve for a problem. It's out of my control at this point. Sending you hugs. @Mark Bee1 point -

Why do good people get bad tattoos?
DJDeepFried reacted to AverageJer for a topic
Fortunately I haven't had to do this but I have decided that I will be willing to. I have been happy with my tattoos and now that I know better what I want I am not inclined to get one that I don't want. That said, I tend to go to good artists at good shops and then put my trust in them. There have been a few times that an artist stopped before I thought the tattoo was done and in all of these cases the artist was correct to have done so.1 point -
Why do good people get bad tattoos?
suburbanxcore reacted to sophistre for a topic
This usually shows up for me with strangers asking where I get tattooed, and saying 'your tattoos are really different!' But since they're not very different from other good tattoos, I can only assume this means that most of what they see is not good.1 point -

It's a great idea. Wonderful tattoo image that shares your child's name. Stop thinking, get a great tattoo, and post the photo. Hell, if you don't do it maybe I will. Now I kind of wish I had named my daugter gargoyle. Is it weird to change the name of a seven year old?1 point -

I hate summer :(
SStu reacted to Gingerninja for a topic
I adore summer. I grew up in Texas and for a large part of my career worked outside. For a ginger, I do the heat very well. Now that I live in Pittsburgh, I cherish every day over 80 degrees! I'd so rather be hot than cold. I guess that I should add that even during the summer I hit the steam room three times a week.1 point -
No agreement here. Having grown up in Buffalo, and lived the last (almost) 40 years down South - I much prefer a purging sweat to a bone-chilling cold.1 point
