  2. When I began looking for my first - have had it about 4 months now - I searched for images that appealed to me and reflected my personality. As it turned out, the one I chose had some tribal lines along with the wolf head. I had not idea that tribal was "out" and, honestly, even when someone commented on it when I first posted a picture in a tattoo forum, I don't care if others find it outdated. I'm not trying to please anyone else - I selected it and got it for me. So, from my perspective, what is trendy or fashionable is unimportant to me. If you like it - go for it.

Going to hang with the Stells tomorrow. Might get a little something from Richard if he's game. Mostly looking forward to seeing Jen and Richard — two of the coolest, funniest people I know.

I just booked with Yushi yushi_horikichi on Instagram. He comes to Seattle in about a month. The appointment day that he suggested in August just happened to be my birthday! First time getting tebori and first tattoo since 2012. Beyond excited. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

  6. Absolutely straight away. Apply it at the shop the same day. Leave it alone until you get home. No germs and contained weeping (although I'd have a couple of paper towels handy just in case of leak).

  8. Look at a lot of bad tattoos. The internet is full of them, and, unfortunately, most of the tattoos you see out and about are going to be bad, lol.' Once you have a keen eye for what is bad, you'll spot the exemplary work of the best artists a mile away. This is what worked for me, anyway.

  9. Ask Chris his view - he has a lot of international clients and probably has fielded this kind of query before. I left work covered for 10+ hours flying home from Japan but that's not the same as 30 hours obviously... Sent from my G7-L01 using Tapatalk

  10. Oh for sure. The happenstance of tattooing is one of my favorite parts of it. Even if you do end up goofing and going to someone you're not super extra pleased with it, don't beat yourself up over it. Ultimately they're just tattoos and you can always get more down the line.

  11. There is a 3th option. Not covering it. However, try to wash it atleast every 10 hours

    The Tattoo News

Fire started next door as an accident and spread through a few buildings. It was a four alarm fire. Someone lost their kitty but no one else was hurt - from what I've ready their machines and some of the art survived. No news on where everyone is setting up in the meantime. ____ Added on to say we talked to Franz today and most of the machines, books and art were salvageable and they've found a new location and will be re-opening in a few weeks - all around good news.

    Hand Tattoos

I posted these in the new tattoos thread but here are my hands by Guen Douglas. They hurt like a bitch and I had a shitty heal (they need a few touch ups but neither of us are in a hurry!) really happy I have them done. I've got full coverage on arms and most of legs but not torso - partly because this is where I want my biggest pieces - but to get my hands done was very symbolic of committing myself to tattooing. No going back to teaching for me! Plus I just feel more 'me'. Hard to explain but I reckon someone gets it.

  27. 1st thing = don't be in a hurry. take time to educate yourself. this forum is excellent for that. so is Instagram. 2nd = learn about the different styles of art that are available 3rd = follow some of the artists that you enjoy, and absorb how they do what they do - and how they relate to others in their field within a few weeks or months you should be getting a feel for what "quality" is, but ultimately what is pleasing to your educated eye is what will bring your lasting enjoyment.

  28. instagram - to me - love it or hate it - is a game changer for evaluating what to expect from a tattooer its not everything - but its huge i like when artists post regular work not everyone does this but when i can go a year or 2 deep into someones IG and i see hundreds of tattoos they did well that says something if you see a consistent body of work that pleases you then you can feel confident that you will probably be pleased with the outcome of your tattoo like i said - its not everything but its a big thing in the current processes of choosing an artist i personally love IG i have mentioned to a few artists that i liken it to growing up and looking at the sports pages following your favorite athlete well - i dont follow sports these days like that but i like going onto IG with a cup of coffee and checking out the latest pieces of awesomeness that my favorite tattooers have posted anyway good luck in your search i also am a big fan of the LST interview section fun stuff and you'll get some good perspective on the world of tattooing

  30. The Army uses what are called "fixed call signs" for radio communication. Each unit had a designator - many times most units of a larger unit will have designators that start with the same letter. For example, the fixed call sign for 1st Infantry Division is Danger. I commanded a battalion within that Division, the 101st Military Intelligence Battalion and our fixed call sign was Devious. They then use numerical designators to identify specific individuals within each unit - the commander of a unit is identified by the number 6. So, when I made a radio call, I identified myself as Devious 6. Simple, right?

  31. Well it's been a year since I've had my back worked on and per our usual fall schedule, Henning was in town and this time we FINISHED my back! Some of you might have seen the updates via Instagram. So happy with this collaboration between Henning and Rubendall being completed! WARNING, PIC HEAVY!!! Put your browser on FULL SCREEN! The master himself, Henning Jorgensen. Such a great artist and humble man. Filling in the phoenix...tail feathers, breast, head and a few touch ups here and there. Such a pleasure watching Henning work. I was so stoked with the zebra/tiger striped pattern he chose for the remaining tail feathers. Touch up on a tender spot...the spare tire. Slowly getting there. Details details details... Close-up of the phoenix...beautiful! Full view from my right side. There was poor lighting inside since it was dark out, so they propped me up on a table and surrounded me with lights. A quick reminder of the work Mike Rubendall did on the lower half of this collaboration. LOVE his water! Another angle of my lower half. Here's the finished top half. Finished full back in all it's glory. My back is a sea of colors! Hope everyone enjoyed my show and tell! (don't mind the feet on the left or right, hahaha)
