I think too many people here are too invested in the tattoos other people get. Could the OP have gotten a much better tattoo than the one she got given all the solid information that's here on this forum? Absolutely. I don't feel good about somebody coming here, posting about how much she loves her tattoo then people piling on her and shitting all over her. She still has to live with that tattoo. People are going to get better tattoos if they come here and are treated with kindness. And I know that given my posting history I'm full of shit for saying this, but this thread bums me out.

No one here was nasty to her, other than in the thread where she tried to say tattoos don't hurt and I admit I got a little hot headed about that, because it came off as show-offy and like she didn't have the experience to back it up. She came in here with this attitude that she was tougher than any of the rest of us with way less experience than most of us, and that rubbed me the wrong way. But I digress... People tried to help her and with every turn, she acted like she already knew what she was doing and that begged the question of "why are you even here anyway then" on this and the Big Planet forum multiple times. The first post in response in this thread was just someone saying "hey, I don't like it, but great if you do." The harshest response in this thread was just people saying not to go back to that artist. Which is a solid recommendation, because this is a pretty poor tattoo. I think this girl has maybe some psychological issues or something where she thinks this is the best she deserves; she puts down other people as "snobs" for going to world renowned tattooers and is determined to stick with this guy. I also won't spoil where she lives, but it isn't exactly as small of a town as she makes it out to be, and she's VERY close to a lot of high quality artists. I hope she comes back someday because she could get some awesome tattoos with an attitude adjustment. The funny thing about all this is, it isn't THAT bad of a tattoo. I've seen much worse. The issue here is usually people are humble about their shitty tattoos, and she still thinks it's great and we're all "haters."

  5. Went to CatConLA last weekend with my daughter!!! We had so much fun. Saw Horitomo, Molly, and Taki from State of Grace. We bought a ton of cat related stuff, two of my favorites being prints featuring David Bowie and Robert Smith w/cats! We bought @DJDeepFried a monmon cat baseball cap. I'm still wanting another monmon cat tattoo... someday...

@Graeme, is that you? But seriously having read through both threads we were way nicer than the folks on that other forum. I would never tell a person I just met that they have a bad tattoo but if you go online and ask a bunch of strangers what they think of your tattoo... Well you may not like the answer you get. Obviously she didn't know but like@Synesthesia said if she had just posted in the lowdown thread the silence would be deafening but no one would have said squat.

The problem to me is she was so certain that she knew better on virtually everything she posted about. People warned her about the size; she ignored them. They warned her about the lack of detail; she ignored that, too. It isn't like she's been super friendly or responsive to anything anyone has written. Her tone has been accusatory and quite rude. If she had been friendly, that would be another matter. But she hasn't. She came to a place full of people with knowledge of expertise, then ignored what everyone said and did it anyway. If she likes it, that is genuinely all that matters. But I can't not say that is a shit tattoo. It isn't a subjective thing. Her skin is chewed up on top of the fact that it's not very good. I find it quite sad, really. And the response at Big Planet was way harsher than anyone here. Agree to disagree, I guess. I doubt she'll be back.

It's not hate, it's love. Love for good tattoos. I didn't know the difference when I first started my tattoo journey either. It pays to stick around here and really see the good stuff and the differences... If the guy has a good personality, that's great--maybe he'd be good in sales. For tattoos, there are people with good personalities who are also really good artists with technical skills. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, bummer that she felt compelled to take it down. I hope she comes back for additional support and discussion. As long as she likes it, that's what matters but there's always something to learn.

My mother taught me: if you don't have something nice to say don't say it at all. On the other hand if you post your tattoo on a public forum it's fair game. For me it's a toss up between tough love and it's not my problem. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Going to hang with the Stells tomorrow. Might get a little something from Richard if he's game. Mostly looking forward to seeing Jen and Richard — two of the coolest, funniest people I know.

    My phoenix!

Update: I found a picture elsewhere on the internet. I won't post it out of respect for OP, but it's out there if you browse other forums. I am seriously confused how this person frequents (or should I say "frequented," since both forums are full of haters) two tattoo forums with people with hundreds of hours of tattooing, asked so many questions on both forums, and still came out with this. Also, bizarrely enough, OP's skin doesn't seem as dark as her other thread indicated it was. I think this picture is through a filter...or OP is completely delusional.

  21. I hoped that's what she meant, but it didn't sound that way. Regardless, my point about her inspiration tattoo being horrible still stands. I hope OP sets the bar way higher than that.

I missed the pic, but for real...if you're going to create a whole new thread about your tattoo (when most people just post in the latest tattoo thread), then what did you expect? You're literally asking people for their opinions, and then getting mad when not everyone says something you want to hear. I assume the tattoo was rough (for the record, I predicted this being a disaster back when you said you wanted it to be like 4 x 4 inches) so I guess we're "haters" for encouraging you to get better tattoos.

@DJDeepFried yeah i know - i debated posting anything actually - though i dont think i was harsh - just sharing an opinion - if she threw up the pic in the lowdown - which is what most people do with their new tattoos - it would have come and gone end of story - but when you start a whole thread to discuss your new tattoo!!! - well - i think you invite discussion - good, bad and ugly to me - the idea of a phoenix is cool one - but the artist didnt do it justice imo - and that started with a weak design - but like i said in my inital post - its not the end of the world - especially when its on your thigh - which led to my advice of continuing to seek advice and info regarding future tattoos on the forums then she went in a different direction - refusing to give the artist name for fear we would find her whereabouts - i think that puts a wrap on her participation here cause thats not really very social behavior - but we'll see but i'll be honest - i would hate to see her continue to be tattooed by that artist - a couple weak tattoos are one thing - but no one needs a whole bunch of them

I noticed that you removed the picture of the tattoo. The comments in this thread weren't hateful toward the tattoo, but were making suggestions for different outcomes in the future. The purpose of the forum overall is to be educational. I'm interested in thoughts on this tattoo that can be informative to us. The design that you posted in another thread looks a bit different from the final result. I'm curious as to what happened between the original design (which didn't include the coloration at the bottom) and the final tattoo. I agree with picking a different artist for future tattoos.

  25. Coming through airport security yesterday one of the security guards had a long (favourable) chat about my tattoos. He said he had a couple but was too afraid of the pain to get more. Then he explained that he got the tattoos after he got paralysed in a car accident and then beat the doctor's diagnosis that he probably would never walk again (!!!). I was like "dude, I think you could handle it" (He laughed). Sent from my G7-L01 using Tapatalk

  33. our black friends are not limited to a tattooed life in black & grey - there are certain (limited) colour pallets that will work quite well and others that just won't show up well or hold well on dark skin. I discussed this in some detail with one of my tattooers a few years ago but I can't remember which colours he avoids. but it also has to do with the design composition - keeping the design bold and simple and achieving appropriate contrast for the colours to show. colour ink aside, tattooing african and asian skin is much different than the caucasian skin - seek out a skilled tattooer who is experienced with dark / black skin that knows how build the design composition and contrast accordingly and physically tattoo your skin type.

  41. Actually I never realized about someone staring (in the bad way) my tattoos. I think it's more about don't thinking about it and then you will not realize about people staring the bad way to your tattoos. Just change your mind and stop worrying! I never worried about people staring or judging my tattoos, and that's why I think I never watched nobody doing so! I just realized about compliments and admiring glances! I have a funny and cute tattoo on my leg (a pile of kawaii cats. You can check it on my instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDfk1qNvAYD/?taken-by=polymernai ), and, even when I know it's not the best tattoo ever (and it's not perfectly done, I have to touch up the colours soon) , I had A LOT of kids loving my tattoo, saying that this is super cute and funny!!! I'm super happy when I make children smile :D So, just listen to the compliments and forget about the bad words!
