Latest tattoo lowdown.....

Some of you saw this on Instagram already, but my stoke cannot be contained. Fudō crab from Eddy done today at Lifetime in Denver. Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk10 points -
I would like to thank everyone for ther input thus far. I have done my research on the other forms, but was just curious if anyone had any other incite. The tattood area is not sensitive and there is no pain when poked. I was mostly just curious about risk of infection and damage to the artwork. But I think I am going to take most people's advice and just miss the game. Much appreciated everyone!3 points

The first time I went I had an appointment, last year I just went looking for a walk-up. I agree with Graeme, at least on Friday night there were lots of amazing tattooers who were available (I ended up getting something from Jeb Riley). For me, getting tattooed at a convention definitely sucks compared to a shop. That said, you ARE getting a tattoo so it's still awesome.3 points

MTL is an amazing city - I can't get there enough.3 points -
If you are on the fence about going, you should probably pack a bag and go. Its a great convention and Montreal is one of North America's great cities. We will be going, if our September work schedule allows.3 points

hey, what is your opinion about this tattoo?
Gingerninja and one other reacted to El Dolmago for a topic
I like the idea (my first tattoo was an ancient egyptian design) but the style of the sun isn't a traditional egyptian style - so it's jarring to me. Plus the sun is an egyptian god - Aten - so really if you're going to get the pharaoh and his wife (I think this is taken from Tutankhamun's funerary chair) it should be consistent.2 points -

Well, it's a small picture, but from what I can see...it's very flat and boring. It's lacking any kind of dynamic composition, it's pretty much just some hieroglyphics without any kind of shading to give it depth. I just googled Egyptian tattoos and this was one of the first hits I found. Notice how much more detailed and visually interesting it is. There's a lot cooler things you can do with an Egyptian theme. Where are you located? Maybe we can suggest some local artists.2 points -

I'd not play either. It'd probably be fine but it's not worth the risk.1 point

I wouldn't play, even with gear on it's going to hurt a lot if it gets hit,or risk possible damage ? let it heal, play hockey later.1 point

Presumably you'll be wearing your kit over it so there should be little chance of direct impact damage to the tattoo. The 'derm may come off with excess sweat though (if you have the time there's quite a lot of info and experiences in the Tegaderm/Saniderm/Tatuderm thread in the Tattoo After Care section of the forum). With my last tattoo (second time using 'derm, two weeks old yesterday) I actually removed the 'derm at just under 3 days and it has been a very quick and easy heal. I guess I'd try to evaluate whether the tattooed area still feels tender if you poke it through the film and how important the game is for you, and go from there, obviously following any instructions given to you by your artist.1 point

Fair enough, just showing you the type of stuff that can be done! If you really want the hieroglyphic look, you can at least add some more shading/color or details to make it look less like just flat lines.1 point -

So...you asked both of them about your next three tattoos before you even got your first one? I'm still confused. Maybe you should take things one at a time. Do you want the wave done in a certain style or do you want it to be pretty close to how it looks in the picture? Dan seems to do a little bit of everything, tending to favor more neo-traditional/new school stuff, whereas Aaron is primarily a traditional style artist. I think Aaron's stuff looks bolder because that's the traditional style, heavy black and solid lines. They're both pretty good. It really comes down to what look you want. I guess if you literally just want him to copy a picture, it doesn't matter which guy you go to. Even the most average street artist could replicate that wave without too much trouble. I think people focus too much on "getting ripped off" when it comes to tattoos. You have to look at this forever, and getting something done well that you love is worth it. That's why I emphasize choosing your artist first, because cost is secondary to a job well done. I try to save up a good amount of money before even going in for a consultation appointment, schedule something a couple months out to make sure I'm good on money, and only ask for a ballpark figure at the end of the consultation (phrase it like "Okay, so about how much cash should I bring with me...?"). Usually, I save too much and bring too much money with me. Better than being chintzy and not bringing enough.1 point -

Yeah, I had an appointment with him that I had to cancel because my son decided to arrive into this world a few weeks early. I don't have anything booked yet but I intend to try to get tattooed by him again and get something with good vibes.1 point -
If you want to get tattooed by somebody specific, make an appointment, but there will always be opportunities to get a walk-up. I wouldn't expect some local tattooers to be completely booked and there are a lot of tattooers here making quality tattoos: check out Arno Schultz, Nick Oaks, or Joel Marlo to name three. In my experience the Friday is probably the best to get tattooed because it isn't as busy as the Saturday, but it's all good. Honestly, I would rather get tattooed in a shop if there was the option, but this is an opportunity to get tattooed by people locally that I'd otherwise have to travel for, so it's fine. It's cool getting to meet and talk to new people and there's a good energy at the convention. There are so many good restaurants in Montreal. It's an amazing food city. If you want fine dining check out Park (I heard about this place when I got tattooed by Chad, he said it's the second best sushi he's had in his life, I don't have as much dining experience as him so it's the best I've had), Maison Publique, Joe Beef, or Au Pied de Cochon. We also have smoked meat and the best bagels in the world. Plenty of vegetarian and vegan options if you're into that too. There are also some great public markets well worth checking out. I know the food here better than I know the hotels but there is plenty of accommodation in the city. Think about it!1 point

Both cats look like they are making decent tattoos but each has a different look. Cheap tattoos, we aren't talking about the actual cost but more if the tattoo looks proper vs looks like it got made in a kitchen with a guitar string. I think you're safe and neither cat is going to give a cheap-lookin' tattoo. The higher price seems completely reasonable and realistic, the other seems like a shop rate for a 15 minute tattoo...wait why are we even talking about cost...If a $100 is the deciding factor you're not ready for your first tattoo. Ok, your first tattoo so we will cut you some slack ;) Step #1 You gotta decide what the hell you want first Step #2 Book the tattoo Step #3 Receive the tattoo Step #4 worry about the cost and tip the tattooer. OR get a rose from one cat, get the wave from the other. problem solved.1 point -

Imo, you're doing this kind of backwards. You pick the artist first and then go with their price. It sounds to me like you're comparing two people and trying to decide based more on cost than who you prefer as an artist. You need to pick who you think would give you the look you want better. You're concerned about $100 difference, which is small change for a piece of art on your body forever. I'm also not sure what tattoo you're getting. You posted a picture of a bear on a hand, then a rose, then a wave. Which thing were you hoping to get? Have you not decided yet? Figuring out what you want should be the very first thing you do. I prefer Aaron's style a lot more, but it's up to you. If you want a more traditional style whatever it is you're getting, I think he would kill it.1 point -
