Maybe try getting in touch with The Tattoo Archive? Chuck Eldridge has a wealth of knowledge about tattoo history so maybe he knows of who was tattooing around there at that time and can help you out. Lucky's is another good bet. Good luck with your search.4 points

I am trying to find the Skull with intertwined Snake tattoo that my Dad had. He passed away back in 1997 and I regret that I never really talked to him about it - although it gave me the inspiration to get my first this year. And, I have not been able to find any pictures of him where it shows. It was fairly large and on his left upper arm. My Dad went into the Marines at the end of WWII - turned 18 in 1946. He finished Boot Camp and then was transferred into the Reserves so he returned home and was living with his parents - so I am guessing he did not get his tattoo then. When the Korean Conflict broke out, he was activated and was sent to southern California - and ultimately deployed to Korea - so my guess is that he got tattooed there somewhere in the vicinity of El Toro air base in the early 1950s. I assume he selected from a piece of flash - and I remember it to have been more greenish in color, although perhaps that was just the fading of the years and sun damage. Can anyone steer me toward flash of that era or Southern California artists back then? I've done a bunch of Google searches but have had no luck so far. This is him taken at Boot Camp in July 1946 - high shooter in his platoon. The picture was sent to our local newspaper where my Grandmother was a proof reader so she was able to keep the original. I have it hanging in my den in a case with a WWII M1 Garand like he is holding - I am also still looking for that rifle in his hands. I know the serial number and keep looking for it to turn up among the millions that survived the war.3 points

Thought I'd posted these the other morning - probably forgot to hit the submit button. This is the time of the year that I love our place the most - affectionately referred to as Mighty Mortgage Manor. We spend a lot of time working on fences, the garden, Lynn's plot of fresh flowers, cutting grass...and even find some time to spend in our pool (we filled in an old one and built a new one last year). But, the mornings are so peaceful - sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee is so tranquil. Here's my view from the back porch, looking over our small lake. Sunrise from the front porch: The pool from the back porch (still growing some grass to cover where they dug up the yard for the water and electrical lines): The front of the house: And the back of the house: All four seasons are wonderful here in the Northeast, but I just thrive in the Spring and Summer months.3 points

If you have proper winter gear, bone-chilling cold is okay. Those -40 days are brutal, sure, but there aren't many of them in a year. They can be endured. Whereas with the heat there's only so much you can take off before you start getting into reverse Hellraiser territory.2 points

crap ! sophistre ! that sucks, and oboogie and polliwog ,I love my central AC,it costs a lot to run it,but it sure is worth it,we only have this bad heat for a month or two a year, and it's not constant like that, we get an onshore breeze that's called the "delta breeze" that cools down the area,as you can see nature's AC is coming this week fortunately and DeVious6,I could never hate my AC LOL2 points

^^ Wow, that's an impressive tattoo for your first!! If you followed the aftercare instructions correctly, then you've done everything right. It looks fine to me, tattoos can heal differently depending on the person. I wouldn't worry too much about what other people say regarding scabbing, peeling, or lack thereof...that just leads to paranoia. Well, it does for me anyway haha. Red can be a trickier colour to heal for some people too, but if you want peace of mind, you could always ask your artist. But it does look normal to me... I just got my Copyrights tattoo earlier today. So happy with it. I mean it's simple, but yeah...I love it. I love that band!2 points -

I recently got this incredible peacock from Luke Jinks at Cloak and Dagger. The picture I pinched from his instagram page also shows a glimpse of a Bert Grimm sun I got from Nick Mayes when he guested at Frith Street back in March.2 points -
You wouldn't hate it, @Devious6, if you lived in the south. No question. Well. Unless you have a death wish. :-)1 point

I generally hate overuse of the AC too, but being able to bring the house down by a few degrees on those humid nights will be amazing.1 point

^^^^^^Ugh!!!!!!! Where would you ever get the idea that was a good way to heal fresh work? @Zmanlane - nice work!! The experts and more experienced folks here can offer you a better opinion but it looks like it is healing OK. I would only offer to be very judicious in applying creams or lotions - a little goes a very long way!1 point

So this post isn't about my fresh tattoo but I saw something recently that made me cringe. I was at an aftershow about a month ago. This one chick had a fresh sleeve. She looked at it, pulled out her Chapstick then slathered it all over her arm...then applied it to her lips. How about we *not* do that. She had a purse and god knows that she had room for some lotion.1 point -

Also special thanks to my mentor @Joe Shit (yes you are a mentor now, deal with it) with who i had alot of back and forth pm's about artists. Without you guy's i dont know with what monstrosity i would have ended up with. I know sometimes it seems people just come, asking for advice and dont listen but i want you to know sometimes people do listen. Allmost finished now.1 point

Repeating Tattoos?
Devious6 reacted to Synesthesia for a topic
I'm far from heavily tattooed but I have a couple repeats already: 2 skulls - one traditional, one more neotraditional...and attached to a skeleton 2 roses - both traditional, one red, one pink I know I'm getting another skull at some point, and I'd like to get a tiger some day (then I'll have repeating big cats). I'm sure I'll end up with another rose or two. I have a butterfly and I'll probably get another at some point. I worry about putting similar things too close together (ie: I won't get a tiger next to my panther), but that's just me being particular. Otherwise, I like getting a couple different versions of the same things and seeing different artists' takes on similar subject matter.1 point -

@Zmanlane I agree that is looks to be healing fine. I know for me linework scabs up harder than color and it can take up to 3 weeks for all the scabbieness to work out. And then a few weeks after that before it is really all healed up. That is a pretty damn fancy tattoo you got there. I like it.1 point -

Did some shading with Greggles today. Not even in the same league as lining, though anytime he gets close to that one area on either scapula I have to bite leather. That will probably always suck. But hey - since we focused on the upper body this time, I didn't have to be completely naked in public for a whole day! Bonus. I am finding that 4 hours is about the time that I consistently have my pain response start to fail. Tattoo flu every time.1 point -

Let me chime in here for a second. I have been lucky enough to be tattooed by him twice and watch him tattoo 2 very large tattoos on a friend over the last year or so. My opinion is he is very very good and extremely versatile in style. He has nailed it on tattoos over and over again. I will be going back to him until he stops tattooing or I'm covered (probably the later). This being said, to ask is he the best tattooer is a crappy question. He is by far one of the best I have seen (and been tattooed by) but remember there are also other artists. I highly recommend him but remember NYC has tons of talented guys (Invisible has a chunk of them), and to say is so-and-so the best is a bad question. All that said, I say go for it. I know I am signing up for my next tattoo from him (and the biggest to date). If you care to see any really colorful pieces he's done check my gallery.1 point -
