Hi all! My name is Matt and I've been lurking on here for a while. Reading this forum has really helped me figure out what makes a good tattoo. I love seeing the variety of work everyone has and it's great to connect with such a like-minded community, especially when you're one of the only tattooed people amongst your friends! I'm excited to finally contribute! I got my first tattoo in 2014 and became hooked as soon as the first line was put on my skin. All of my tattoos with the exception of a few small handmade ones have been done by Yoni Zilber at New York Adorned. We started with a shoulder piece on my left arm, then did a 3/4 sleeve on my right arm, and are currently in the process of extending my left arm into a full sleeve. The addiction is strong! My first tattoo - Tibetan Skull by Yoni Zilber @ NY Adorned Bodhisattva style Virgin Mary, done @ Diamond Club Tattoo and True Nature Tattoo Snake full-sleeve extension in progress, done yesterday @ NY Adorned Filipino tribal snake scales and tongue design, hand-tapped by the legendary Kalinga tattooer Whang-od in Buscalan, Philippines2 points

Received my first tattoo "Saint Christopher" on this day 13 years ago from the one-and-only Steve Batt (Edmonton, AB). "Look kid, I'm not going to draw the Last Supper. You want a tattoo today or not?" I can still smell the speedstick scent he used to apply the stencil. And in an ironic twist of fate, with the fresh tattoo of the patron saint of travel on a swollen arm, we got in a car accident 5 minutes after leaving the shop. The tattoo is as rich, bright and colourful as it was the day it was made. In fact it keeps looking better each year as it ages. Dropped in this afternoon to see Sensei Steve and thanked him for 13 years of capital "Q" quality tattoos he has made for me. cheers everyone !2 points -

gonna repost in this thread cause i'm super stoked on my latest n greatest Snake by Scott Rusnak / Lucky Strike Tattoo Edmonton 2016 body wraps onto the inside of the wrist. i'm really happy with the placement which was tricky because I didn't want to lose the dragonfly above. i'm stoked about the negative halo to keep it pop'd. the snake tongue is super legit. Dragonfly (aka Snakedoctor) by Shawn O'Connor / Ink Machine Tattoo Edmonton, AB 2014 considerably lower anxiety during the healing. it's 1 week old now and the snake had it's first shed. the tongue is really scabby but so far everything is holding. hands are a bitch to heal. so now both hands are done and sleeves dropped down all the way to the edge of the wrist. ink is leaking out of my long sleeve shirts yeeehaw2 points

Mom gone wild!
Dan reacted to Quotidianlight for a topic
After 20 years without a new tattoo due to being a single broke mom, both kids are heading to college and I'm starting permanent travel right as I turn 40. So what's a gal to do? Tattoos of course! So hi, I've always loved tattoo's and planned to get a full back and sleeves once I could devote the finances to it. I had my sleeve started on Friday. I was going to just do the forearm and have other artists do it in pieces, but omg, I love it too much! I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone and add to my list of artists to visit as I travel.1 point -

I know this thread is sort of old but I'm flying to Berlin soon (again - 3rd time in just under 2 years) and am finally finishing a full back over 2 days with the very talented Sara Rosenbaum. I want 2 smallish (not too small obviously) forearm pieces at AKA studio and decided to go on the 3rd day in Berlin to get both pieces at once. Crazy? Perhaps. Coming home a happy boy? Definitely. Will report on the pain, the results, and if it was a ridiculous idea! Below my unfinished back...1 point -

I got my first one (of two) on my back, just a small Capricorn/Tribal sign when I was about 19? My mum came to visit me in Scotland, she cuts my hair as well , so I go see her at the hotel , take off my shirt(sounds really weird I know) so I don't get hair on my shirt, I sit down soand she goes "That better be able to come off" "No , it's on there good and proper" "It's wonky" It's my nan we have to 'tip toe' around. But I just told her with this tattoo and my leg tattoo. Sent from my SM-T555 using Tapatalk1 point -

best artist in the country for my idea
SStu reacted to zombae8723 for a topic
So, if someone has a 2 year wait list, it's because they think they are better than they are? Doesn't mean they really are a great artist? What do you think 2 years worth of clients are waiting for? It's not a subpar artist. You don't think they are worth it, that's fine, don't ask for the best then.1 point -

@marley mission I'm right there with you. Normally I'm real big on simple all natural washing and cleaning. Air drying is the way to go; however, sometimes I have to moisture up to avoid breaking of the skin and scabs.1 point -

@marley mission that I have but this balm and Rx is clearing it up nicely. My prior tattoos I never had a problem and honestly if I didn't step in to clear it up it I feel like the problem wouldn't have resolved itself. The balm gives the right amount of moister to my healing tattoo plus it's 100% all natural ingredients. Might help for some folks so I figure I'd pass it along to the community.1 point

When I commanded an Army Artillery Battery back in 1983/84 it was a missile unit and we had some female soldiers, NCOs and officers. One day during an inspection I began to chew out a young female soldier because she was wearing blue star earrings - not allowed in uniform. After I got done, she reached up and tugged on her ear lobes. Yup. Tattoos. Although my experience in tattoos is limited, I've had a lot of experience working with people who are facing tragedies and the emotions that go with it. Making a decision to get a tattoo like this - given the timing and emotion - is not something I'd recommend, either. Wait. Heal. Consider. Maybe you'll come to the same decision later...and maybe not.1 point

A while ago (in 'upcoming tattoos', I think) I posted about how I was going to take my dad for his first tattoo - something that he had wanted for a long time but had never done. The first time we planned to go, he backed out because he looked online at the risks of getting tattooed as a diabetic (which for someone with well controlled diabetes are negligible, but he still didn't do it. Cold feet.) Then last summer at our family reunion our cousin Amy, who has several tattoos, basically called him out because she got her most recent one while she was on chemo for her stage 4 cancer - making his arguments clearly invalid. Unfortunately, Amy lost her battle with cancer late last year. A few weeks ago my dad and I finally went to get his tattoo. The simple anchor reflects his 40+ years of working on Great Lakes ships, but I believe it serves as a reminder of his cousin also. We went to Hand of Doom Tattoo in Buffalo, NY and he got his tattoo from Chris Lombardi. Same shop and artist where I got my first tattoo (also an anchor!) in 2012. Overall amazing experience, Chris is a great guy and an excellent tattooer.1 point

the artists on the show right now are pretty good - was excited last week when they finally had an american traditional challenge unfortunately i think most people on shows like these are portrated unfavorably - who knows what we would look like on a reality show right sarah does some amazing color portraits if you follow her on IG anyway - i watch basically because i'm sucker for tattoo type programs - but i would rather watch LST interviews all day long over anything spike has ever put out there1 point -

Sorry it's been a while since I've been here. Looking at other people's tattoos makes me want more, and my wallet can't afford it. I recently changed jobs, and to celebrate I got this. This was done by the same tattooer that did my other pieces (Papa Joe in Boise, ID). My back is nearly complete. This is a pic of the fresh tattoo.1 point

Went in for some shading to finish my first tattoo on Tuesday. My artist commented that it had healed really well but that he wanted to touch up a few places where the black tribal lines were not uniformly colored. He did that first, then added the minimal shading around the lines we agreed on. We talked a bit about my "next" piece - my right upper arm probably this fall with the summer pool season coming - and then walked out to the receptionist/cashier. He shook my hand and told me there was no charge, that he saw the shading as part of the original price. I fully expected to pay for that since we didn't discuss it up front - and I gave him a good tip as I left. Here's a pic taken right after removing the wrap before the first cleaning. I'll post a better one once it's healed - this one shows a lot of red irritation where the gray shading was added. In any case, I am really happy with my first tattoo - it reflects what I wanted and has great symbolism for me. It is also my 61st birthday present from my wife - my birthday is Saturday. Now to plan for the next!1 point -
Hahaha, nice topic. I had my frist tattoo when I was 18, but I never hid it. I left from home when I was 18, so far from home. I lived in an Island and I took a flight to go to another part of the country, the peninsula. So, I never hid it, but I didn't tell them the same day. I told them about it like one month after doing it, just because I thought it would be more kind to tell them before they just realize seeing some Facebook pictures or whatever, hahaha As I left home, they realized I could do whatever I wanted to do (as I was capable to), so they didn't complaint about the tattoo. They didn't told me any opinion about it neither. It was when I moved again to my island when I started to get more tattoos, and then the opinion of my parents got out, hahaha They just didn't care about small tattoos (they already thought I was crazy, so me revealing my tattoos was just one more proof of that for them, so, they didn't care so much). My dad was the first one to see the big tattoo on my back, and he was so surprised and at first he didn't like the idea, but he's kind of open mind now after a few years after me leaving home, so after a few minutes he admited it was a really cool tattoo and a nice piece of art, so he was okay with that very soon. About my mum... Well, I aready knew she didn't like tattoos, and for her it was just like the worst thing I could ever do. She didn't care about my other smaller tattoos, but she didn't like them neither. But, for this one, she was super scared. She was like one week telling me horrible things like "you will regret it", "you're fucking crazy", "you don't know what you're doing", "you are a shame". Hahaha, worst reaction ever. Ayway, I live on my own, and I just see her some weekends when I feel the obligation to visit home and also to see my brother, so... They are not a problem, fortunately. Also, my brother loved my last tattoo, and he was so excited (he's 19 now) that he's going to have his first tattoo done very soon, hahahaha. My mum is going to deal with a lot of displeasure.1 point

Greetings from California!

Hi! I decided to bite the bullet and register since I have been lurking for so long! I got my first tattoo when I was 17 (which is covered now, thankfully) but got seriously into getting tattooed and the whole collecting thing over the past few years. Looking forward to filling up my empty spaces and meeting awesome people along the way. I am currently a social worker but have also spent time teaching and doing various other things...hope to further diversify in the future. I am definitely in the long sleeve forever club, which in Southern California can be upsetting but it's also worth every second of enduring the sweltering heat. I have uploaded some of my collection to my gallery...mostly the stuff on my legs or stuff I already had good pictures of. Once I enlist help with photography I will upload the stuff on my arms (or upload them in respective threads). I take pretty bad pictures, so my apologies in advance for that. My most recent addition was by Johan Svahn, and it's still healing...before that I got tattooed by Chris Conn. Both allowed me to cross something off my bucket list! Hope to see you all around, excited to be here!1 point -
