    Ear Area Tattoos

My full ass is tattooed and it definately ain't a secret anymore. Since my 7yo nephew saw the 'great wave' splashing out of my plumber's crack all he does is ask "Uncle Eric why do you have a butt tattoo?" and then all the kids laugh because he said "butt" haha.

I do like the idea of a future behind the ear tattoo though for myself, like silver dollar sized. Tattooing in/on the ear though makes as much sense as writing "serenity" or some shit on the sides of your finger. Why? To be edgy? It will look silly unless you have a lot of other tattoos going on. That's where the put ID tattoos on animals. A tattoo on the head will still show through when the hair grows in. You may not be able to fully make out the tattoo once the hair grows in, but there will be something fuzzy showing which will draw more attention to it and people will be curious and ask you. If you want a secret tattoo, make a proper tattoo on the torso or the thighs and keep it concealed by wearing clothes. If you are worried about going to the beach or pool and people seeing your tattoo...well, maybe tattoo is not for you. It's not for everyone. Don't be a tat-tourist.

  3. A while ago (in 'upcoming tattoos', I think) I posted about how I was going to take my dad for his first tattoo - something that he had wanted for a long time but had never done. The first time we planned to go, he backed out because he looked online at the risks of getting tattooed as a diabetic (which for someone with well controlled diabetes are negligible, but he still didn't do it. Cold feet.) Then last summer at our family reunion our cousin Amy, who has several tattoos, basically called him out because she got her most recent one while she was on chemo for her stage 4 cancer - making his arguments clearly invalid. Unfortunately, Amy lost her battle with cancer late last year. A few weeks ago my dad and I finally went to get his tattoo. The simple anchor reflects his 40+ years of working on Great Lakes ships, but I believe it serves as a reminder of his cousin also. We went to Hand of Doom Tattoo in Buffalo, NY and he got his tattoo from Chris Lombardi. Same shop and artist where I got my first tattoo (also an anchor!) in 2012. Overall amazing experience, Chris is a great guy and an excellent tattooer.

  4. You said this is in the ditch, right? Any joint on your body, where the skin is repetitively being pulled and contracted, will heal slower and rougher than a flat part of your skin. It's not uncommon.

I don't understand the idea of a "secret tattoo" on your head. A full bodysuit is literally more concealable.

You find experts in anything you do. People generally get excited about what they like and want to appear very knowledgeable. And with tattoos they also want to appear tough - "like I sat for 10hrs straight", I hear this brag statement so often for the most unsubstantial tattoos it is nauseating. I'm like, good for you that must have hurt! But when it's obvious they got grey lined, then lined, then re-lined again and then delicately grey shaded I'm like suuuure bud that must. have. hurt (your pocket) ! But whatever, I know what's up with my tattoos and my tattooists and what it really takes to go the distance, so good for them. I guess my peeve is people asking about your tattoos. They don't sincerely ask about your tattoos. Nobody gives a shit about your tattoos. Maybe I'm being a little melodramatic...but 90% of the time being asked about your tattoos is simply the unsolicited invitation for people to just talk and show off their own. It is a penis-measuring contest. People love to talk. And love hearing themselves talk. And perhaps I'm no different. I mean really I post here at LST often because this is one of the very few outlets I have (aside from the tattoo shop) where I can wax about tattoos and my experience with honesty (and feel like I have an audience haha). So peace to the LST cats for reading my words, whether you reply or care. Or you can just scroll past, who cares! There is a lot of ego and attitude in the tattoo scene. So perhaps the lesson for me here is to ask people about their tattoos (in person) more often when i do see something cool or fresh. Everybody has their own story to tell. It's all good though. Just keep getting tattooed because you enjoy it. Enjoy it for yourself. The people who truly are ass-deep (literally) into tattoos no what's up and will keep the culture thriving, pet peeves or not.

  11. @Faust I did 2 days ago and I am doing a Rx of antibiotics, x2 dosages a day. I'm on my second day of antibiotics and I've started to see an improvement. As you can tell I have just 2 locations that the plasma had a hard time clearing up and some of it got trapped under the scabs as they formed. Before I went to the Dr.'s I cut back on the number of times washing and the amount of after care product and let the tattoo air dry. I have seen a large improvement in just 2 days. Keep me posted on how you're outcome is going for you.

  13. Hey it's not like it's life-threatening. And I've heard of plenty of tattoos that ended up just fine even after they were infected. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Sometimes it just takes us older guys some time to make the decision - and in some cases a life event will give that decision a new meaning. Congrats to your Dad! So, the real question is....is he already planning his next? I got my first about two months ago, turned 61 10 days ago and am working on my design for the next one this fall.

  18. The college where I'm president is a two-year private college, much like a community college with a total enrollment of about 1600 students. We have many sports teams but one of our most successful is our football program. We get great players who are not academically prepared and work them hard both on and off the field to get them ready to transfer and succeed. We've also had a tremendous number of our players make it to the NFL - last year we had two drafted and 1 the year before. Unheard of for a school our size. On Saturday we had our spring Blue/White game - the culmination of the spring practice season. On hand were two of our current NFL players - Chicago Bear Kevin White who was selected as the 7th pick in the 1st round last year, and Baltimore Raven Lorenzo Taliaferro who was selected in the 4th round two tears ago. Missing was Mark Glowinski, picked by the Seattle Seahawks in last year's 4th round as well as another of our former players who was just picked up as a free agent by the Ravens. Kevin and Mark both went from our program to West Virginia and Kevin's two younger brother did the same thing. We retired Kevin's jersey number at the game. What a class act he is and gave our program, coaches and college all the credit for getting him where he is. Zo Taliaferro is also an amazing young man - got his BA in the morning two years ago and then was selected in the NFL draft that same evening. Here's a picture from the game: Kevin White, our head football coach and former St Louis Cardinal linebacker Mark Duda, Lorenzo "Zo" Taliaferro, and me...the short guy.

  21. Again, I've had to have a script of antibiotics and an antibiotics shot when my tattoo was infected. It looks sore, but it isn't infected (in my opinion). My infected tattoo didn't scar, but I did lose a lot of color and had to get it touched up. Just hang in there, and don't pick or scratch! The fact that it is in your ditch means it will take a much longer time to heal.

  24. I don't think I've posted this here--Todd Noble made this lady in a rose a couple months ago. I really enjoyed getting this tattoo; he has a good bedside manner and just seems like an all-around good human. I can't get an un-distorted photo of this but you get the idea.

  25. Received my first tattoo "Saint Christopher" on this day 13 years ago from the one-and-only Steve Batt (Edmonton, AB). "Look kid, I'm not going to draw the Last Supper. You want a tattoo today or not?" I can still smell the speedstick scent he used to apply the stencil. And in an ironic twist of fate, with the fresh tattoo of the patron saint of travel on a swollen arm, we got in a car accident 5 minutes after leaving the shop. The tattoo is as rich, bright and colourful as it was the day it was made. In fact it keeps looking better each year as it ages. Dropped in this afternoon to see Sensei Steve and thanked him for 13 years of capital "Q" quality tattoos he has made for me. cheers everyone !

I don't like small tattoos. I don't like tattoos that are self-consciously tasteful. Tattoos should be large, bold, and at least somewhat obnoxious.

  30. My wife and I just had our sleeves finished. Both took 3 sessions. We've been getting all of our ink done at Funhouse Tattoo in Vancouver, BC. If you aren't familiar with that shop, have a look online and read a bit about the founders. They hold some patents on some awesome tattoo machines and have been part of the tattoo scene for decades now. Such an awesome shop atmosphere coupled with wicked artists.
