Latest tattoo lowdown.....

I don't think I've posted this here--Todd Noble made this lady in a rose a couple months ago. I really enjoyed getting this tattoo; he has a good bedside manner and just seems like an all-around good human. I can't get an un-distorted photo of this but you get the idea.9 points -
You said this is in the ditch, right? Any joint on your body, where the skin is repetitively being pulled and contracted, will heal slower and rougher than a flat part of your skin. It's not uncommon.4 points
-
I find it really strange that someone with only 1 small tattoo is comfortable making this statement:4 points

Well, hello to you too. Also, given that there isn't actually a lunar eclipse tonight, maybe you should spend more time on your computer learning about astronomy and when eclipses occur so you don't come across as a total butthole.2 points

I don't understand the idea of a "secret tattoo" on your head. A full bodysuit is literally more concealable.2 points

Healing time depends on the area?
suburbanxcore and one other reacted to 9Years for a topic
The body will heal things like tattoos the same way it heals any other minor ailment (cuts/bruise/burn/abrasion etc): areas with poor circulation will heal slower than more vascular or central areas.2 points -

the artists on the show right now are pretty good - was excited last week when they finally had an american traditional challenge unfortunately i think most people on shows like these are portrated unfavorably - who knows what we would look like on a reality show right sarah does some amazing color portraits if you follow her on IG anyway - i watch basically because i'm sucker for tattoo type programs - but i would rather watch LST interviews all day long over anything spike has ever put out there2 points -
@oboogie it looks great! Thanks for sharing that with me. I appreciate it much. I'll keep you posted how I'm coming along with mine. Thanks Tattoo Nation!1 point

@oboogie Bummer it got infected but I'm really happy to know the outcome turned out great for you. Sadly I have a small infection on mine but I'm currently on a Rx. I was just curious on how you're journey was with the problem and how you're tattoo finished up. It seems to me the folks I talk to say the inner forearm and the calf can be pretty tough spots to heal from. Thanks for informing me and I'm stoked for the finial outcome on my latest tattoo.1 point

All I can say is if you have a chance to go see the Eagles of Death Metal on their current tour - DO IT. I've seen them before and they always put on a great show but these are super special since they are the first ones since the attack. The outpouring of love, support and respect made me a little teary. They gave the crowd everything they had back in spades. So freaking good.1 point -
Blocking/Hiding particular users?
oboogie reacted to Patrick Bateman for a topic
@oboogie I'm ready for anyone is what I meant. Look forward to getting block from anyone.1 point -
@Gear_Head, it was on my right calf. The improvement wasn't immediate, although he was concerned enough to give me an antibiotic shot as well as a script. Things started turning around after four or five days. I had a severe reaction to particular brand and color of ink. My friend/tattoo artist said he lost sleep over it because he was so worried (he asked me to send him photos so he could check on it regularly). It was very bad. He actually stopped using that ink because of it. He used another color and brand, and it was totally fine.1 point

Yep, it makes a lot of sense, and has been true for me. The lower legs took the longest because they are the furthest away from the heart and blood flow is the most challenged in that part of the body, even for the young and healthy, with gravity adding to the challenge. I see this in the medical field - lower leg wounds take FOR-EVER to heal, in some people more than others, but in general this is going to be true in everyone. For my lower legs I try to keep them elevated during the healing process whenever I can.1 point

Glad I know how to hide people. Also, @Graeme, you make me laugh often.1 point

UPF technical clothing for hiking, etc. tends to be made of moisture-wicking synthetic material so you won't be dying in a long-sleeved shirt--I think places like REI sell these. If you're out on the golf course a lot, it may be worth getting one of these for the UV protection anyway. Fashion is another thing entirely, but I just took a look on REI's website and there are a few there that aren't so bad. I have a couple of these shirts for hiking and they are way less gross and slimy than sweating off sunscreen in a cotton t-shirt all day.1 point
-
I agree with that. It's in eye sight on the regular so I'm constantly judging it. I just need to respect the healing process and let it be. Its good to know that someone else has experienced a similar outcome from getting their forearm tattooed. Thanks for letting me know.1 point

I think season/weather makes a difference as well. I might be making this up but it seems like my tattoos heal better in the cold dry winter than in the heat and humidity of summer.1 point -

both my forearms were easy tattoos but tough slower heals in the end they are fine but was lots of scabbing on the one what makes it worse is that you kinda end up looking at it way more than you should because my forearms were always exposed during the healing1 point -
Welcome! :D I'm happy that I'm not the younger one on here, hahaha Good luck following your dreams!1 point
-
I agree, I had heavy scabs before and they healed nice and no ink was missed, it just healed the same than normal scabs! So just don't worry and don't pick it, follow your regular tattoo aftercare the same as before :D1 point

A few that I've dealt with: 1) "Does it hurt?" Not as much as when I watched friends bored in the shop tattoo each other's toes. 2) People poking my tattoos. Seriously, fucking stop. I just met you and I'm not poking you. Don't poke me. Usually, I just poke them back in the same place. It gets weird. 3) "What does your mother think?" She loves them and thinks I'm wonderful. 4) "What about when you get old?" I'll be more badass looking than you with the rest of the badasses in the old folks home. 5) "You can't get a good job with that" I'm a web developer (and decently well known in my niche). Nobody gives a shit what I look like, and most never see me. They also make these shirts with sleeves that go to your wrist. They're called long sleeved shirts. Pretty cool, eh? Just to name a few. I'm sure many of you get the same. Also, the strange looks when you do general things like hold the door open for people; like tattoos immediately mean I'm an asshole.1 point -
That watch though!! I'm still bumming it up over here rocking a few Tags that I've bought or been given as a gift (from my dad). Anyways, thanks for this review. I have 2 full sleeves and I've managed to pull of the collared shirt with jeans to attend those "casual dress" meetings, but I admit that I've been dreading that day when I have to actually go out on a golf course or to a BBQ or whatever and the company is not tattoo-accepting. My original thinking was that I'd get a spandex/compression under shirt (long sleeve), and then throw a golf shirt on over top. I'll definitely keep these in mind. Cheers. Less is definitely better when it come to lotion of any kind. Your skin needs air to breath and to heal so drowning it with cream or lotion is counterproductive. I'm about a week and a half into the healing of my touch up and shading on my tattoo and used much less lotion this time - just enough to cover it lightly, gently rubbed in and then I use a clean paper towel to blot any excess off.1 point

Product Review: Ink Armor by Tat2x - Workplace/Sports Coverups!
otisc reacted to Intomyskin for a topic
Thanks for posting this review. As I look ahead to getting my sleeves (probably half-ish), I've been considering something like this for certain situations. Glad to see an actual detailed report here. I have read some reports that the tops stretch out quickly and then they won't stay up. Perhaps that is another brand. It would be great if you could update us on the long-term durability as you continue to use it.1 point -
Live with the tattoo for a while. Spend some time around here, watch the artist interview videos, read through the Latest Tattoo Lowdown thread, through the What Makes A Good Tattoo thread, learn about tattoos. Get on instagram and see the kind of work tattooers are doing. Do your research, get more and better tattoos. Eventually lose the dandelion and birds in the background of a backpiece when you're ready.1 point

Received my first tattoo "Saint Christopher" on this day 13 years ago from the one-and-only Steve Batt (Edmonton, AB). "Look kid, I'm not going to draw the Last Supper. You want a tattoo today or not?" I can still smell the speedstick scent he used to apply the stencil. And in an ironic twist of fate, with the fresh tattoo of the patron saint of travel on a swollen arm, we got in a car accident 5 minutes after leaving the shop. The tattoo is as rich, bright and colourful as it was the day it was made. In fact it keeps looking better each year as it ages. Dropped in this afternoon to see Sensei Steve and thanked him for 13 years of capital "Q" quality tattoos he has made for me. cheers everyone !1 point -
@Intomyskin You're absolutely right to consider the feel you get from the artist. The artist, the experience you had while getting the tattoo are all in there with it. People maybe can't see it, but it's there. A back takes a long time, so you're going to be spending a lot of time with your artist so you want somebody you get along with and can relate to in some way. As well as the time spent on it, it's an intimate process, you're vulnerable and in pain in front of somebody you don't know that well so that personal connection is critical, and it's not something you can get from looking at a portfolio. Seems like you have a good handle on things. I'm excited for you.1 point

Worried about passing out
TattooedMumma reacted to Gemini for a topic
Original poster here. It went well, with no passing out! [emoji6] I ate a big rice chicken bowl for lunch right before the tattoo. The first bathroom break I felt drunk and tried to remind myself that it was my body coping with the pain, and all the advice I had gotten here. I drank LOTS of water during, sat and stood up very slowly, and scarfed a chocolate protein bar when the artist went to get more ink. So thank you! I have to go back to finish the tattoo because we ran out of time, but I am feeling much more confident now! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point -
