  1. There you go, fixed your post for you. Got pictures of the new tattoo? We'd love to see them.

  2. yeah you're not going to get that $200 back, you missed the opportunity to discuss the hours charged. its done. If you feel slighted because you were overcharged, vote with your wallet and find someone new to get tattoo from. if a tattooer was interrupting our sit to go smoke multiple times in 2hrs leaving me open on the table I wouldn't be going back. OR go back for another premium tattoo because you know it will have a good outcome and you will be happy with the results. it's not uncommon for repeat clients to get the cost rounded down. honestly, in the long run i've received more bang-for-buck from the premium artists than the ones charging the regular rates. so get over the $200 and just enjoy the tattoo. keep getting tattooed, the $200 credit will come back to you

  4. there is nothing to do here first - he probably charged you 'for the piece' and - it is what it is right moving forward if you feel he is too pricey for you then move along and collect from other artists or make sure he knows your budget I have had work done where the artist charges you first for the piece then they tattoo you - time is an irrelevant factor so know and articulate your budget and stop watching the clock and enjoy getting tattooed

  7. Went in for some shading to finish my first tattoo on Tuesday. My artist commented that it had healed really well but that he wanted to touch up a few places where the black tribal lines were not uniformly colored. He did that first, then added the minimal shading around the lines we agreed on. We talked a bit about my "next" piece - my right upper arm probably this fall with the summer pool season coming - and then walked out to the receptionist/cashier. He shook my hand and told me there was no charge, that he saw the shading as part of the original price. I fully expected to pay for that since we didn't discuss it up front - and I gave him a good tip as I left. Here's a pic taken right after removing the wrap before the first cleaning. I'll post a better one once it's healed - this one shows a lot of red irritation where the gray shading was added. In any case, I am really happy with my first tattoo - it reflects what I wanted and has great symbolism for me. It is also my 61st birthday present from my wife - my birthday is Saturday. Now to plan for the next!

  8. I don't quite know how to find my gallery anymore, but I'm sure I'll figure it out. It looks really fantastic!

  9. It's a moot point, because she already canceled. Which was the right thing to do. Why take a chance? Again, a reputable tattoo artist with a private studio is not the same thing as a rando dude's apartment. Why is this so hard to grasp?

  12. Haven't posted any recent tattoos, so here it goes. The Pumpkin is obviously from last halloween. The eagle is from last december. It's hard to take a good picture of it since it wraps around my upper arm. The halloween painstain was done by Jeroen Gardenier at The Blue Blood studio in Amsterdam. The eagle and lady head are both done by Jan Willem (@janwillemtattoo on IG) in his private studio. The lady head is 2,5 years old. Edit: Pictures are massive, sorry about that one

  14. By the way, I have enjoyed my short time here so much and received such good info/advice that I made a donation to support the Forum the other day. Happy to be a part of the community!

  16. Double posts are a thing. I know I only hit Submit Reply once (on another thread), and it posted it twice, once with the attached photo and once without. Also, I occasionally get a weird message saying you can only like ten items a day?

  17. Go ahead and post bugs and issues that you find. Notice that 'likes' now work as expected in Tapatalk, and also that the web version is mobile friendly.

  18. i'm not a fan of an artist taking frequent smoke breaks for the main reason is that it breaks the flow of getting tattooed if the area getting tattooed is an uncomfortable area to have tattooed it can be frustrating to have to stop and start anyway - it wouldnt stop me from getting work from a particular artist but i'd be lying if i said that its never been a factor for me especially if the artist is on the slower side in terms of the pace of which they tattoo you

  19. I wouldn't mention it. My artist did a consultation during my tattoo, I don't think it's uncommon. If the guy is a really top artist he probably expects to do his work at a pace he's comfortable with and not be set to a timer. I can imagine being frustrated while he's out smoking and your money is ticking away. If it's going to stress you out I would just choose another artist next time.

  20. Personally, I would be very weary of this but I guess I can see why some artists might like this kind of set up. I think cancelling was the right thing. Getting tattoos is a fun experience so setting yourself up in advance to be uncomfortable with the process is cheating yourself out of a potentially great experience. There are plenty of talented tattoo artists around so there is no reason to risk a bad experience in my opinion.

  21. What @DJDeepFried said. She absolutely made the right decision. If he's so amazing and so internationally recognized, he'd have friends in the area and a studio to tattoo in. He doesn't. It's shady. End of as far as I'm concerned.

  23. They could make it just as clean but that doesn't mean they will. I'd trust any major convention way more than some random guy's apartment.

    Lower leg tattoo

Yes, I used derm to heal a full shin piece done in one sitting. Long story short: applied it too soon, went on an 6+ hour motorcycle ride the next day and everything oozed into my shoe. Gnarly. But, still healed fine, just kinda gross. Area around the ankle took a long time to heal fully and settle, but no issues. If I had to do it again I would wait a bit longer than usual to use any derm for a big tattoo on the lower leg. I think you'll be fine. If it were me, I'd do it.

  26. You have legal obligation to tell them why you left the apprentice previously - and they can't legally ask. As noted by Sstu, you can tell them you left to tend to a medical issue and leave it at that. I am glad that you've got everything under control and are moving ahead with your life again!

  30. Finished this 3/4 sleeve a couple of weeks ago. Right before my artist moved out of state :( I give him a lot of credit for not killing me for being picky about the details. He'd never seen an M-16 or any kind of tank up close in person, but he was willing to tweak the drawings until I was happy. I won't even repeat the words he said when he realized how small the lettering on the dog tags would be! He was able to get back at me when we got to my elbow though...not so fun, but thankfully quick. The words behind the Soldier's Cross are the Army Values (that part is on the underside of my arm). The "tank" is an M113 that I drove in Iraq for a year...my baby :) I am extremely happy with how it came out! Wildcat

    Hola

Oh for sure. The reason for the "rush" is because my sister is flying out to surprise my mom for Mother's Day and she has quite a few tattoos and we always said I would get my first tattoo with her. I've been planning to get this for many years now and am finally doing it, so I'm glad it worked out to get the artist I wanted, when I wanted. Even if I couldn't get Austin, I wasn't worried about going to anyone else at that shop based on their work and it is a pretty simple tattoo. But it all worked out in the end so pretty stoked.

  33. There're a whole lot of tattoo artists that absolutely shun people that don't act as a professional, with a proper sanitary shop, a business licence, and an actual location that a customer can come back to if there are issues. There are tons of tattoo artists that are featured as guests at other shops around the world, but any guy who is travelling to random places and setting up shop in apartments is suspect. If he was actually any good, and had a good reputation, he'd be a guest at shop or could rent a chair at any real shop without issue... Ask any professional what they think about getting tattooed in an apartment (or anywhere other than a shop or at convention), and see what they say... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  35. If you need to ask an internet forum "is it safe" you already know the answer. Tattoos are exciting. We all agree on that. But don't let that drown out the hesitation present in your voice (words). There are several red flags. First of which is getting tattooed in some random guy's apartment. Yeah, that seems like a legit world class tattooist :/ Your long-term health is far more valuable than "art" or tattoos. Unless you are fairly experienced with getting tattoo I would be very cautious. update - you did the right thing

    Upcoming Tattoos

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll post again here ... getting tattooed by Richard Stell at the oklahomatattooshow in a couple of weeks time. Finishing off my right half-sleeve with Joshua Henderson at Brainstorm Tattoo in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in May. Those are my two scheduled tattoos at the moment.
