Started my sleeve w/ Jason Brooks last Saturday... First new project in over 5 years... and first visible ink :)

A little late to this thread...I have this great horned owl tail feather on my inner bicep. I had it done in black and grey realism and couldn't be happier with it!

I honestly think that everyone heals differently, and different techniques are better for different sizes and placements. Plus everyone has different skin! I feel like there are a lot of voodoo magic myths about healing..."if you do x y and z, it'll be great!" When healing it any of the different ways would have probably been fine anyway. I have also totally babied tattoos and they scar up a little because the skin got overworked. No one's fault per se, just the way it goes. For me, when I get anything done on my legs I swell like crazy so sometimes I wrap it for the first few days to avoid friction if I have to wear shoes/pants. When I get super detailed tattoos I tend to leak more lymph because there is more trauma to my skin, so wrapping for a few hours at a time when I am out and about can prevent it getting gross and crusty from letting lymph dry on it, and I wash it and let it dry out a little when I get home. Other times and places, I just use lotion and let it air dry and it heals like a dream. Not a big ointment fan myself because it clogs my pores but others swear by it. Basically, Dr. Bronner's, unscented Aveeno, and the occasional plastic wrap wrapping if it's called for. I also dry with paper towels for the first few days instead of a bath towel because I am paranoid about infection. Keep it clean, moisturize it a little, don't swim, don't stand around in the sun, don't scoop the cat box naked, and don't wear anything that rubs on it and I think it's usually fine! :)

I got this from Tony Nilsson at Blue Arms Tattoo in Oslo today. It's based off an old Percy Waters drawing that Tony had wanted to do for a while, and I had no specific requests so we just went for it. I'll admit that I did cheat a bit, after the outline we did use a numbing spray or something like that, which basically made me not feel a thing until we started doing the colors. Happy we did, since then we got to finish it so I don't have to wait until the next time I'm home.

By Tim Pausinger, Pearl Harbor Giftshop, Toronto. I don't have experience with the most painful spots (ribs, back, butt). This was not as brutal as I expected but certain spots closer to the armpit felt like hot pokers up and out through my shoulder haha !

I am a high school history teacher and I have never had any issues with my tattoos. The only visible one I have is star wars related and I find it breaks the ice more often than not.

Got this done at White Tiger Tattoo in Webster, New York by Pamela Carol. It's a great horned owl tail feather done in black and grey realism. Got this because owls are one of my favorite animals and for some personal reasons as well. So happy with the way it turned out!

I look toward retirement to open a lot of tattoo doors for me. I'd love 3/4 or full sleeves. Heck, I'd love to be totally covered, but just not realistic. Sigh...Someday?

left - waves and maples by Jill Bonny right - stank skull by Gary Koblis when he was in SJ. i actually got the anchor (Jilly Bonny) and mini tiger (Chad K) before, so the skull was the weird filler. the smoking monkey is by Sean Baltzell, done at Liberty Tattoo in Seattle at their 12/12/12 party. i kinda wanted to, but strayed away from getting a shunga kakushibori. glad i did, because every once in a while i'm wearing a tee and i stretch or yawn and see people take peeks at my arms... i could imagine saucer sized eyes if a coworker or family member caught a glimpse of that.

I forgot about this one on the other inner bicep. This one was done by Nick Collela on a visit from Chicago a couple of years ago.

This thread is a killer RH Wells portfolio... I've got the words "Tighty" and "Loosey" on my right and left inner biceps, respectively.

Theo Mindell wolf Ron Wells disintegrating skull n roses And+1 to weird gaps...had Paul Dobleman do a Dietzel design (snake around skinny dagger) on the back of the wells arm. Not sure what I'm gonna do with the other yet.

I wouldn't pin anything too close to that cross, it will get lost. Perhaps spider webbing in/around? The top part of your arm could be framed off somehow with another piece like a bird that would come down on to the side of your chest. IMO keep it simple, don't try to fill in all around your western styled tattoos with eastern style background, it will look confused. Keep the space to let the subjects standalone get some tattoos on your other arm and across the chest, you may be delighted how it changes the balance of your tattooed-look. The ideas on how to add your tattoos, placement, the brainstorming...one of the most fun parts about getting the tattoos! Don't overthink, enjoy the process of developing your ideas. It will come to you :) ditto...umbrella is really cool. I like the spider too.
