I got this from Tony Nilsson at Blue Arms Tattoo in Oslo today. It's based off an old Percy Waters drawing that Tony had wanted to do for a while, and I had no specific requests so we just went for it. I'll admit that I did cheat a bit, after the outline we did use a numbing spray or something like that, which basically made me not feel a thing until we started doing the colors. Happy we did, since then we got to finish it so I don't have to wait until the next time I'm home.5 points -
Sup yall! Been lurking on these forums for quite awhile. Got a full backpiece and frontpiece while I was living in Beijing/Hong Kong (ziyou tattoos), but this Saturday I'm going to start my full sleeve w/ Jason Brooks. Pretty stoked as none of my tats are really visible yet - it's kind of a big move as I'm going to be reduced to long sleeves all the time living in Houston... Anyways, just wanted to introduce myself and share my excitement :)5 points

Tattoos and the workplace
soraya reacted to cattoolady for a topic
Such an interesting thread. Doesn't seem like generalizations can be made about type of employment, size of employer, or anything else, with regards to how an individual's tattoos are treated in the workplace. I'm a lawyer at a small plaintiff's law firm. For the first several years I practiced, I made certain my tattoos were covered. Over time, as I've "earned" my reputation for being damn good at what I do, I've loosened up about my tattoos showing. I also have more visible or potentially visible tattoos than when I started. My boss, who is male, and who leans to the extreme conservative, is not a fan of tattoos at all. If asked, he will generally comment that he has no idea why an otherwise attractive woman would tattoo her arms all up, but concedes a small rose on the ankle is sexy. To his credit, though, after I got my half sleeve done, he did acknowledge that it was pretty "neat." For female professionals especially, I think it largely comes down to having "earned it." I'm fortunate in that I work in a practice area and with a client base, where my tattoos can, in some instances, be an asset. In fact, my boss has had me join him in a meeting or two with a new potential client specifically to point out that I'm tattooed. A bit annoying and offensive, of course, but if it helps establish a rapport with a potential client - sure. That said, my tattoos, other than my small one on my wrist, are never visible in court. Usually they're not visible when meeting with a client or with opposing counsel. The reality is that female lawyers are absolutely judged on their appearance, and looking polished helps my clients in court, and it helps me in securing new clients. Other than a couple small ankle tattoos, and a boob tattoo, I'm the only one in the office with any large amount of tattoo work. I don't care if my colleagues' tattoos are visible when it's quiet in the office, but I don't want to see that boob tattoo when there's a client in the office. Same thing goes for hiring. We hired two new young female attorneys in the last two years, and during the interview process, a young woman, who was otherwise very qualified came in for a second interview. Her dress was far too low cut and showed too much cleavage, and I could see her large tattoo on her boob - and it annoyed me. I thought it actually showed somewhat poor judgment. Why would you show your cleavage and a boob tattoo during a second interview at a law firm??1 point -

Made appointment Feb 20th for what will hopefully complete my 2/3rd sleeve with Sarah Hurst at Vivid Tattoo in Knoxville. Kind of a jumble of three largish cameos of my girls with little bangers for each one (completed a week ago) and Sarah will tie them all together with a vine & leaf background. Green bean vines. My girls love them and we raise a good quantity each summer, the wife canning them like crazy. Seems to be something that ties us together.1 point -

I've seen some of the work by Jenna Bouma (Slowerblack, East River Tattoo in NYC), and you can tell that it's hand made. The reason for this is that the lines are made by a bunch of dots connected rather than a single motion. Even at her speed, which quite frankly is really impressive, it's a slower technique. Less skilled usually results in a more obvious dotted line. As for any possible "pros", it's a different feeling than machine tattoos... And people on tumblr will love you... I'd say that chances are that this stick and poke "artist" has most likely never been an apprentice, and probably doesn't have any training in keeping a safe workplace other than what they learned from the internet and common sense. I mean you don't have to be an expert at the internet to find some pretty sketchy "artists" on instagram.1 point

You need to put your Tigger in your image gallery. Mine is about 18 years old by now. I got it for a similar reason... To keep life fun, energetic and spontaneous. A guy can't take himself too serious with a Tigger on his calf! :o1 point

I'll be traveling to London in a couple of weeks to get tattooed by Valerie. I missed her during her guest spot in NYC, and I'm just stubbornly determined to get the pieces we talked about. I'm really pumped for the tattoos, but kinda freaking out about the trip in general. It'll be my first time traveling on my own and my first time in Europe. I've traveled for tattoos, but never this far. Seasoned trekkers: any tips? Also, if anyone's got suggestion for things to see/do/eat, I'd love to hear it!1 point -

I finished my backpiece on December 30th ! Then I did a victory lap and had my tattooer/life-coach cap my wrist off with a magic dragon. It ended up on my hand with the beard on the knuckle whoops! Turned out awesome !! Healing is a total bitch, haven't bent my wrist since last Wednesday and my hand is really raw. I'll post a less cryptic pic in the future...my arm now is all Steve Batt 2003 / 2007 / 2015 yipee really cool to see a timeline from the same tattooer blended one into the other.1 point -

This is my 5 year old Staffy. He's super energetic and playful, I get people constantly asking me if he's still a puppy. Sigh. He's a handful but a great family dog. A couple 'glamor shots' from back when I was super into photography: Aaaaand one of him letting my 6 month old son climb all over him. He's loving it.1 point -

I almost forgot our kittehs. George is the eldest. We adopted him from a family member who named him "Convict" because of his orange color and his escape attempts. We fixed him but he still loved the outdoors so we let him roam in and out of the house until he was severely injured by a tomcat. He is now an indoor only cat after an almost $1000 vet bill. We nursed him through the healing process at home. He likes to lick my head sometimes. Sophie and Sasha were adopted strays 3 years ago. They grew up together and are great buddies. Sophie the tortoise on the left was born in an abandoned car. She actually walked up to me in a parking lot and claimed me. She is a little shy but very sweet and calm. She loves Andy dog. Sasha followed our grandson home when he was running on our street's sidewalk. She claimed him quickly. She craves attention and turned out to be a huge cat.1 point
