  1. I finished my backpiece on December 30th ! Then I did a victory lap and had my tattooer/life-coach cap my wrist off with a magic dragon. It ended up on my hand with the beard on the knuckle whoops! Turned out awesome !! Healing is a total bitch, haven't bent my wrist since last Wednesday and my hand is really raw. I'll post a less cryptic pic in the future...my arm now is all Steve Batt 2003 / 2007 / 2015 yipee really cool to see a timeline from the same tattooer blended one into the other.

  2. Was supposed to have my next session on Christmas Eve-we got halfway down there and had to turn back around, the snow and ice were just too much. I'd felt like such a wuss, but they ended up w/a bad storm so I guess I was glad we went back home. But on the way home I called and called and the line was busy--so when I finally got thru to cancel, I said I understood how hard it is to get in to see my artist, and I would just take whatever I could. The guy says "Well, I actually just got off the phone w/someone cancelling for next Sunday-you want it?" Uh-YES! So, we trekked back down yesterday. He ended up adding some stuff to the right side top and bottom, where I thought we were done, more waves and such, added some wind to that side too, and whatever, I'll deal w/it if it means it will be an even better piece. Hurt like a bitch this time. Not sure if it's b/c it was such a big area this time, or b/c of what time of the month it is..guys you don't care but girls you understand.

  3. I'll be traveling to London in a couple of weeks to get tattooed by Valerie. I missed her during her guest spot in NYC, and I'm just stubbornly determined to get the pieces we talked about. I'm really pumped for the tattoos, but kinda freaking out about the trip in general. It'll be my first time traveling on my own and my first time in Europe. I've traveled for tattoos, but never this far. Seasoned trekkers: any tips? Also, if anyone's got suggestion for things to see/do/eat, I'd love to hear it!

  6. Hello everyone, I am new to last sparrow but longtime viewer of the video interviews, really glad there is a forum for the kind of good tattooing and history that I love! I have been tattooing since the early 90's in West Palm Beach Florida, and own Altered State Tattoo in Lake Worth Fl since 96'. I also paint in acrylic and have shown my art at Copro Nason in LA and Last Rites in NYC. I am known for my roller coaster and ride themed paintings, which I use as a springboard to explore different themes and cultural iconography. My site is -- POOCH ISLAND -- and my tattoo site is Altered State Tattoo I pretty much tattoo anything but have a passion for japanese and american traditional as well as any large scale lowbrow and surreal style art. I just completed a huge 4 x 5 ft. Canvas for Flo and Don Makofske from national supply of a crazy car rollercoaster. You can see more of my current tattoos and paintings in progress on my Instagram Pooch_art Cheers!!!

  9. started this end of '13 with rich hardy in krakow, poland. then i travelled to london, paris and london again to finish it few weeks ago. so relieved that i finally don't have to get through that pain again. although the shading during the last 3 sessions was so easy in comparison to the lines. anyways i can only repeat that rich is the nicest guy. everyone should get tattooed by him if he is around. merry christmas everyone!

    Hello! Bit of help?

hey there Tina condolences about your mother, my mother too passed away a few years ago, much too young. I'm still dealing with grief 2 years later, partly because i just buried it and kept a strong-front. So go easy on yourself, it takes time to heal. about the tattoo - it's 3 weeks old, so you might have to wait a couple weeks more before you start trying to correct and run over a healing tattoo. I am not a tattooer, just experienced on the receiving end, but no experience with coverups/fixes. However, I think there is some hope for your tattoo... The 5 and a 6 could easily be interchanged with a darker/heavier line. but you will have to do that to the complete dates on both sides to balance it out. The average person won't notice the corrections. And honestly, the 5 and 6 are both going to look like 8s in 10 years at the size they are. The butterfly - only thing that will cover the moles is black. And isn't really recommended to tattoo moles (there is another thread on LST about that). You could outline black circles around the moles and then replicate on the opposite wing with black outline circles and fill in with brown ink (or colour blend to match the brown moles, blue to brown is easy I think). here's my butterfly...to give you an idea of a circle pattern on the wings Go back and see your tattooer. They can see how it's healed, you get a chance to explain the corrections. See what kind of magic they can perform. We've seen waaay worse get corrected, don't stress too badly. welcome! everybody here had their first time in the tattoo shop, congrats

  14. My tattoo want list is to finish my sleeve, get tattooed by Anderson Luna, Jason June, Tamara Santibanez, Eva Huber (again) and Ron Wells. But my one true wish is to graduate from this goddamned PhD program, and get a preservation/research job with the National Parks Service or the USGS, ideally in a position that combines laboratory and field work. And @mmikaoj - dude, the numbing cream is kinda awesome, though. An artist used it on me once (not at my request, she just did it), and it made the transition from hour 2 to hour 3 pleasant. However, it wears off rather quickly (after an hour or so), so if your session is long, you'll be hurting all the same at the end. It just gives you a bit of a respite mid-session.

Dude I hear you. I will definitely be bummed to not be going into Tattoo City every two weeks by the end of this, cause that part definitely doesn't suck, but goddamn. Does the entire back have to hurt this bad? Also I dunno what I was thinking, we have at least 4 more sessions in the waist area, I somehow managed to forget about the deity herself

I'm in a similar mental state with my back piece progress. It is a grind. Can't wait for mine to be finished. You won't be seeing any "sad to be at the end of this journey" posts from me.

  20. Couple choices in how to respond to this re-occuring question: 1. Be unfriendly about it. 2. Share the meaning. Like, the most obvious meaning of what the tattoo appears to be. 3. Share the meaning. Like, the most personal meaning from the depths of your soul. Example, case study: I got a dragon tattoo last week. It's on my hand, out in the open. 1. "What does it mean? Fuck off or feel the wrath of my dragon fist!" 2. "What does it mean? It's a dragon, obviously. And dragons are fucking awesome!" 3. "What does it mean? It's a reminder! 'Wake up and be happy, everyday'" There are very few people that will actually care what the tattoo means. It's usually just an conversation opener so that the person asking you can followup with talking about their tattoo and themselves. At least this has been my experience. It's your tattoo. You don't need to justify why you got it or the meaning of it to anybody but yourself :)

More on my back tomorrow. Not stoked about it. Because the composition of the tattoo is so linear and symmetrical, we've basically been filling it in from the top down, and right now we are stuck in the waist/kidney area. Based on the level of detail and the rate I have been sitting, we probably have two more sessions in that area. Kill me, haha!!

    Ass tattoos

I'd have to run out of skin before getting anything on my ass unless it was a full Japanese suit. Of course, my dad told us the same joke for years: I just had to large M's tattooed on my ass so when I moon people it says, "MoM". When I roll over and kick my legs up is says "WoW"!

  31. And then the following Friday, i headed over to Leeds in England for a pre-planned trip with a mate who was getting his first piece from Lukasz Christopher. I was booked in with Tom Flanagan - both in Oddfellows. I got a trad ship on my shin and a mandala on my foot (a Tom Flanagan staple). I have to sat, the foot was horrendously sore and not gonna go through it again any time soon! We had a great time in Oddfellows, Tom is a great guy and the other lads in the shop made us feel right at home. And the next morning. Swelling on the foot wasn't actually too bad Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
