More on my back tomorrow. Not stoked about it. Because the composition of the tattoo is so linear and symmetrical, we've basically been filling it in from the top down, and right now we are stuck in the waist/kidney area. Based on the level of detail and the rate I have been sitting, we probably have two more sessions in that area. Kill me, haha!!5 points -
100% respectfully disagree. re-wrapping has been the only method that has consistently worked for me.4 points

I'm in a similar mental state with my back piece progress. It is a grind. Can't wait for mine to be finished. You won't be seeing any "sad to be at the end of this journey" posts from me.2 points -

I finished my backpiece on December 30th ! Then I did a victory lap and had my tattooer/life-coach cap my wrist off with a magic dragon. It ended up on my hand with the beard on the knuckle whoops! Turned out awesome !! Healing is a total bitch, haven't bent my wrist since last Wednesday and my hand is really raw. I'll post a less cryptic pic in the future...my arm now is all Steve Batt 2003 / 2007 / 2015 yipee really cool to see a timeline from the same tattooer blended one into the other.2 points -
Couple choices in how to respond to this re-occuring question: 1. Be unfriendly about it. 2. Share the meaning. Like, the most obvious meaning of what the tattoo appears to be. 3. Share the meaning. Like, the most personal meaning from the depths of your soul. Example, case study: I got a dragon tattoo last week. It's on my hand, out in the open. 1. "What does it mean? Fuck off or feel the wrath of my dragon fist!" 2. "What does it mean? It's a dragon, obviously. And dragons are fucking awesome!" 3. "What does it mean? It's a reminder! 'Wake up and be happy, everyday'" There are very few people that will actually care what the tattoo means. It's usually just an conversation opener so that the person asking you can followup with talking about their tattoo and themselves. At least this has been my experience. It's your tattoo. You don't need to justify why you got it or the meaning of it to anybody but yourself :)2 points

A slightly better image of the one above. This weekend's Flying Tigers tattoo at one day old. The little skin wrinkles are from the wrap. And my tattoo has a tiger tattoo on her leg, so that should be included as well!2 points

sleep on it now. just don't let whatever is stuck to it in the morning pull off/out any of the scabbing. soak it just long enough for the cloth or bandage to fall away.2 points

first knee tattoo with Rob Ryan @ Electric 2/11 not sure the subject yet have tossed a few ideas to Rob so we'll see what happens2 points -
Welcome. When I was getting my back done there were nights after sessions when I slept on my back because I don't like sleeping on my side or front and things turned out fine. The only issue I encountered was my shirt sticking to the fresh tattoo but jumping in the shower and soaking the shirt until it would come off without pulling on the fresh tattoo did the trick. Go with what's most comfortable for you.2 points

Ass tattoos
cltattooing and one other reacted to joakim urma for a topic
@Cork @bongsau Yeah they both wanted to put two big eyes on my cheeks... But I opted out of that, not fond of eye-tattoos. Probably it's going to be Iain who will get to do it in the end anyhow. I think that all this thinking about ass (tattoos) has made me enjoy non-figurative tattoo styles a lot more. For me it would be kind of weird to have an image on the ass, like why d'ya have that for? I think Junior Goussain, Tomas Tomas, Curly, Jeroen Franken or Gerhard Weisbeck would be my top choices now if it were not for how far away they live from me/having to travel with a newly tattooed butt. Here's one that I like Tas Danazoglou made it on Guy Le Tatooer2 points -

Think this one deserves to be posted here. Not my favourite style but the ass/boob conversion is fantastic. :P Best back winner from the 2015 NZ Tattoo & art festival by Matt Jordan (not on me of course!).1 point -
I actually have something of a meaning for the tattoos on my arms, though for some I assigned that meaning later to a tattoo I got because I thought it would be cool. I don't find questions annoying, I like seeing what people will say back. For tattoos that have actual meaning, my favorite is "It's a funeral urn. It reminds me I'm going to die." And there's always, "It's a panther and a giant sword. I got it because it's awesome."1 point

- I hope my pain threshold holds up for another few years so I can get the worst spots done without too much trauma. Or else I'd have to resort to using cream, which would feel like a cop out after having gone this far au natural. - I hope being at a steady schedule at work will be more good than bad. Yay to: predictability, stable cash flow, real free time. Oh shit! to: not being as free to take time off, becoming an adult. - I hope I manage to direct my free time and energy to wortwhile and fulfilling pursuits and not just waste it on stupid time sinks and laziness. - I hope to learn a lot of new things about the world and about myself. More personal development and unlocking of doors - New friends, new trips, new experiences. Hardships and bliss. - A post-capitalist society with freedom, peace and eco-friendly mindset1 point -

Welcome Anthony. Don't cut your arm off because you have options! Your best bet is to visit good shops in person to discuss your options. My first thought is to go Japanese for a coverup because you can hide a lot in background elements like rocks or wind, and subjects like dragons or snakes flow well with the body and so can twist and turn and work with what you have there. I don't know about in San Antonio but in Austin there are some great people doing Japanese tattoos. Chris Trevino at Perfection Tattoo does some of the best tattoos in the United States. I've seen plenty of his older work (ie tattoos he did around fifteen years ago) and they are still bold, bright and look new. Katja Ramirez at Rock of Ages is another solid bet for Japanese. I would suggest checking out that shop regardless because everybody there is world class and looking at portfolios might give you ideas. Thomas Hooper who works there did one of my arms when he still lived in New York and I recommend him if you're into his thing. I'd also recommend checking out Scott Ellis at Triple Crown Tattoo because he does excellent tattoos, and again, check out the portfolios of the other people in that shop because there are some great tattooers working there. I am sure other people will chime in with recommendations but this should give you a start. Good luck and I hope you find a solution that's going to make you happy.1 point

well,I guess I'm weird then,I like the attention and questions I get about my tattoos,I just am nice to people and enjoy talking to them, especially plainskins, but then I like to talk to strangers,I am pretty outgoing that way,I love talking to people about my tattoos and tattoos in general and artists I have been to,etc, etc none of mine have any really deep meanings,I will explain to people that ask or I talk to maybe what the art is and where, when,I got my cool art/designs. as for you,my advice is,when you get questions about the lion tattoo, you already answered your own question, just tell them "i feel it just looks badass and i love lion tattoos". just my .021 point

I'm doing okay lately, totally immersed in my '59 Ford project. Just got the motor out of the machine shop and will be doing the final assembly work on it very shortly. Really cool at how many people get off on someone spending ungodly amounts of $$ and want to be there when it comes to life. Of course some of them actually help and are experienced motor heads.1 point -

finally... a thread i can get behind. ;) i don't have anything there yet, but chad discussed the possibility of extending my back piece down. my wife is strictly against the idea, but then again, she wants me to slow down on getting tattoos in general. i have the same sentiment as expressed above by @The Tig ... i have a lot of skin to cover before "doing da butt" (song below, for your pleasure)... less painful and more prominent spots take priority, at this point. speaking of mr. koeplinger, one of my favorite uses of the ass in a tattoo is the kali he did... photos below.1 point

Your crazy. If you are using the correct creams and washing it consistently it probably won't even end up stabbing and getting itchy. Cocoa butter has to be the worst thing to put on it as its fragranced and is really bad for an open wound. Stick to Bapenthem or something someone else above has suggested like the OP has suggested above. By the way the less you wrap it the better as it needs air to heel. Your basically doing everything you shouldn't Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point
