  1. Just as a thought, my little sister passed away when we were both kids and the last movie we watched together was Peter Pan, so I'm planning on getting a ship sailing into the stars to represent the golden ship from the movie. Super cool but also not super obvious to everyone who will see it.

  3. Hi all! I have been reading this forum for a while now and the majority of what I know about tattoos is from lurking on the forum and watching the interviews. So firstly thank you for helping to guide me towards getting tattoos which I love and don't regret (as of yet anyway!). Anyway a bit about me - I am lucky to live in London as its full of great tattooers and shops. I got my first tattoo from Chris Hewish at the Family Business Tattoo in August '14 and have since added tattoos from Luke Jinks, Andrea Furci, Mario Desa, Mors, Bradley Tompkins, Marcos Attwood and Dan Crowe. Since I love looking at pictures of everyone else's tattoos I'll try and add some of my little collection to my picture gallery. Thanks for reading

  4. Mine don't heal any slower than the one I got in 1976. I got a couple of large ones last summer and 2 new ones this summer and am scheduled for another large one this Feb. (I'm 69).

  5. Finally started my sleeve based off Gustave Dore's Crowned Virgin. Got most of the outline done, still have to add the dragon with the rocks/water. Can't wait to go back in two weeks!

  6. So many good ideas here already. My wife's mother's name was Rose, so my wife got a small rose tattoo years ago. She plans on a larger, more detailed rose with a pink breast cancer ribbon for a future tattoo. My mother loved magnolia trees and flowers, so I'll get a flower tattoo for her. I lost her 21 years ago.

  7. Agreed. It doesn't have to be glaringly obvious to anyone but you. For example, my mom always had this purple porcelain flower on a bookshelf in our house as a young kid. I got a small bunch of lilacs on my leg as a little tribute. Haha, she also used to have a ton of little pig statues around the house. I thought about getting the traditional Sailor Jerry pig design with a mom banner, but thought that it might send a weird message. I went with flowers instead.

  8. I'm 50+, and still working on my tattoo collection. Any others out there? I'm curious if your age has made any difference in how you get your tattoos... Or in how they heal...

I'll have to check out @support_good_tattooing and @thebesttattooartists. I'll echo what was said about @americanatattoos and some of the neat old history things they post. Really cool. I've said it before, I'm constantly impressed with the collections that @ivarro is finding to post on @livedintattoos. I'm humbled that he even asked me, because every Sunday I'm jealous of the tattoos that people are posting. Whenever I think a collection can't be topped, someone else pops up and crushes it.

  15. I'm not 100% sure but I think the ink goes deeper then the bruise so healing wise there shouldnt be any problems. Just expect a shit ton of pain. Would be interesting to see if anyone has any experience with this

I am in the Mid-West. I tip after each session. Unless you have booked out your entire piece, this artist has no idea if you will be back or not.So he might think he just got stiffed. Also, I think if you tip, especially after the first session, it shows respect for the artist, which they will appreciate and remember next time you come in.

  17. Honestly, if you are sure it will be the tattoo you want, forget the money, it's spent now anyway. But, if you are not sure this is the artist and piece that you want permanently on you - my advice is to call, cancel, see if there is any refund this far out, and chalk thee rest up to experience. $300 is definitely not worth getting something that you don't like. Oh, and don't get "tattoo fever" when you see the design, approve it without a careful eye, and have it put on you thinking the actual tattoo will be corrected. Believe me.

  19. I figured it was time to contribute! I've really enjoyed all your pics/post the last couple years...good stuff. This is my mountain goat piece. I'm into it 60 of estimated 70hrs but who we kidding...I'll keep going. I've been flying down to Guru Tattoo in San Diego from the Pacific Northwest every other month since March. The artist is Aaron Della Vedova. I've been doing two 6 hour sessions each visit accompanied by a miserable flight home. I had an existing shoulder piece/mountain scene that he tied into. I'm heading down next week for another beating. This is where I'm at so far...

  20. OP you're anxious about this tattoo which is normal - especially since its your first but... you're asking the wrong questions the money is simple either you have it or you dont but the real focus should be have I done research on my chosen artist what I have seen in the portfolio (IG, in person, etc) that tells me 'this is gonna go well' thats the vibe i need to have when i set up a tattoo appointment there are plenty of good artists to choose from especially in the area you are heading to and with current technologies there's no excuse for failing check out your artist's recent work anyway - who you getting work from?

  21. I was at an educators' training today with my principal and a bunch of teachers from my school. Since it wasn't a thing where any students would be, I wore clothing that showed my tattoos. My boss sat down with me on a break and wanted to see all of them. He said they were beautiful. He has the attitude that it is up to me what I want to do but understands why I cover them at work. "People can be so judgy," is what he said. I'm still going to cover them at work, but I'm just glad to know he's cool like I had hoped. He seemed to especially like the Horitomo.
