  1. Maggie's body is covered in tattoos, and her parents have no idea. So we made a video for Maggie to show her parents the tattoos she's been hiding. Made by Bianca Giaever and This American Life.

This month is turning out to be tattoo magic. Getting in on a cancellation with Dave Cummings at PSC! Ed Hardy inspired tiger head and torso with peonies on my ribs. It's been just long enough since I had my other side done to have forgotten how bad an idea this is! Can't wait!!!

  3. Had to cancel our trip to the montreal convention pretty last minute due to a number of reasons and was pretty bummed to miss out this year. I didn't have any appts lined up but was hoping to score a quick walk up. To make sure the weekend wasn't a total bust, my wife and I spent Friday night in portsmouth, nh (one of my favorite places in new england). I was able to get a walk in with Billy Rocha, at one of Jason Scott's fabulous shops, Hobo's. I was hoping to get either a cross or dagger in the weird spot between my snake and dragon on my left arm. We found a cool piece of higgs flash that was both. Billy added a bit to it and made it really cool. Had a great time getting a nice little small tattoo and Billy is an excellent tattooer and a great dude. I hope to get another from him. First time being tattooed at hobo's which is pretty funny since I've been tattooed at their sister shop, Congress St Tattoo, soooooooooo many times now. They are literally 3 blocks away from each other on the same street. this tattoo covers a really nasty scar, so if the skin looks a bit weird in certain areas in the pic, that is why.

  4. Hey guys, long time no post. I just realized I never posted my two latest because I wanted to wait until they were both healed. Not the best pics, but you get the idea. Cobra by Scott Sylvia done at Pagoda City Convention. Drawn on in 15 minutes, outlined in about an hour. Scott is the absolute best. We had originally talked about him doing all of the black in Reading then the color in the fall, but he had the time so we just powered through. It was another great experience being tattooed by him, and I can't say enough great things. Death's head moth by Oliver Peck while guesting in Philadelphia at Kadillac Mt. Airy. Another pleasure. Oliver was so down to earth and easy to talk to, just like you'd expect. He only did three or four tattoos that day, and I was lucky it happened to be the last week before school started and I could squeeze in after cross country practice (the only heavily tattooed coach in the world, I think). He checked out a ton of my tattoos and even took his shirt off to show me his stomach from Scott, his side from Rassier, and his back from Trevino. So awesome. Not the best photos, but it's what I have. Also, I was not expecting to have nearly this much pink on my legs, particularly from Scott and Oliver, but here we are.

    Full Back Piece Thread

@sophistre @polliwog Thanks! I love how Dave does his tigers. Obviously. When I first met with him and was looking through his portfolio I saw not only that he's tattooed a lot of tigers, but also that each one seemed to have its own expression and personality. He doesn't just draw them in one way. The paws are one of my favourite parts. They're huge. The only thing I don't absolutely love about this tattoo is that it's on my back and so I can't see it.

  6. Decided to post here instead of my intro thread. My first trip to Japan for 10 days. The arm was a coverup and was all done by tebori. Also started on the chest piece. And boy does it hurt! I thought I had a pretty good pain threshold. But the middle of the pecs is a different level altogether! Back to my country and I am already missing the pain though.

  9. it gets interesting when you go forearm which i did this summer onto both forearms - i wear short sleeves at work (school counselor at a primary school) and as i predicted the kids love them and the adults have a multitude of comments and questions which have mostly died down its funny as my overall coverage increases i get more comments and let me tell you it is quite a revealing experience in terms of the social skills defecits that many adults around me have i myself feel that i have quite good tact when speaking with others - understanding what topics or commentary are in good form or poor taste, etc - but those around me - wow "how much did that cost, how can you afford that?" "why would you do that to yourself?" "what do you think you'll look like when you're 80?" and of course "what does it mean, it must mean something?" but i have no regrets going below the elbow and i intend to add more :) its funny though - i'm telling my wife how so many times in conversations that peoples eyes dart around to my tattooed areas and how that feels weird - she said - "now you know what it's like to have cleavage"

    Hey. Tattooist in London.

Welcome to LST. I just saw those tattoos you did on your grandma's hands and face. Now she'll never get a job! ;)

  12. Thanks for the feedback guys. The Tig, you mention "images each with a unique style" that would be interesting too. But the plan is that they will all be from the same artists and will be in the same style as the tricycle. The only part that I am thinking over is the color schemes at this point. The current plan is that the bikes will always be blue but have different accent colors (Green, Purple, Red, Yellow), but I did have the thought to make both the bikes and accent colors change, I just thought that seemed too busy for me.

  16. I'm going on the Sunday, I can't wait to see the Ed Hardy Exhibition. I'm trying to decide if I should try and get tattooed or not, I'm trying to save for my back piece which I started saving for last year before I fell pregnant. We had our son 1 month ago (the most amazing thing I've ever done in my life) but I last got tattooed by Bert Krak roughly 1 year ago so the temptation to cave in and get a little something is strong!!

    Re-entering :)

Hi Pidjones, thanks for the welcome, and taking the time to check out my drawings. The reason I left, is a combination of different things, but the main reason was that I wanted more stability for my children, and more time with them. The shop where I did my apprentice-time, had more tattooers than "work", so lots of long hours with little income. (and yes, that is part of the deal, but off course my responsibility as a parent is the biggest and most important deal :D ) The reason I'm getting back, is because "in my mind" I never really stopped, I was just making a choice that was right for my family that time, always knowing I would want to return. So here I am!

Hi everyone This is a good question, but I guess everyone gets tattoos for very different reasons. I guess they also choose the location of the tattoo on the same principal. :) I usually think very carefully about the placement of my tattoos, I tend to put them in places which are both easy to show off and easy to cover. I don't do it that way because I'm weary about job interviews etc, I have gotten jobs with my tattoos on display in the interview. I do it so I can have the choice to show or not to show depending on my mood. I do like showing them off because I have some really great art work done by some really great artists. But it comes in very handy to have them hidden away for things like wedding photos and the likes. ;);)

Tomorrow I get my first tattoo at Saved in NYC with John Sultana. I'm nervous and excited! ... eeep! (I feel like I'm bragging, saying from where/whom I'm getting my tattoo, but I'm supposed to share that info, right?)

  22. This forum was started by a professional tattooer, which should give you some insight into certain rules. I appreciate everyone's civil responses in this particular thread.

  23. You want to see a forum with people run off? Try thetattooforum. Seems to be set up just so about a dozen regulars can berate new folks and run them off. Only a few survive that are not in their click. I've deleted links to them in my browsers. Folks on LST are generally gentle with new folks, but if they don't read the rules and jump right in breaking them and dissing the forum... BTW, what course gives someone a license to open their own shop?

  25. Granddaughter's 6th birthday party yesterday. We noticed that "Marshall" the mule next door was in distress. We found he had a 2 1/2" infected cut on his lower leg. The owners disappear for weeks at a time so we had to call the SPCA. The poor guy can barely walk and needs immediate medical care.

So this morning I put on a plain short-sleeved white T-shirt, and my upper arm piece barely peeks out from the edge of the sleeve. My husband, who has no tattoos but supports my own interest in them (he seems to be completely ambivalent about them - take them or leave them, to each his or her own, etc.) said to me, "Now that's bad-ass." I didn't know what he was talking about and asked what he meant, and he pointed to my arm, explaining that the tiny bit of tattoo showing at the bottom of my t-shirt sleeve made me look like a bad ass chick, and he seemed quite delighted! He typically doesn't remark on my tattoos much, whether they're showing or not showing, etc., so this was new for him. So, sometimes, just like clothing can do for the female form, just the suggestion of what might be underneath is just as intriguing as showing off the full tattoo. Interesting!
