  1. From Saturday... Bottom of shin/top of foot Jeff Zuck @ Name Brand Saturday night, went to see Motorhead for probably the last time. Fun and sad at the same time as Lem seems every bit of his hard lived 69 years of age. I've seen them almost 20 times and this was kind of a teary goodbye for me.......

  2. Tomo's new studio, Silk Needle, continues the Yellow Blaze tradition of being somewhat hard to find without GPS / phone map. The sign is 'blink and you'll miss it'. Nagaoka is a morning shinkansen's ride from Tokyo... 1.5 hours. The new studio is super comfy and Tomo seems to be planning a lot of conventions in Europe and Canada soon, he's energised. We did 5 hours, which finished off my front after (I think) 4 years and about six sessions? All in Japan bar one. My bank account is glad that's done. Drank some awesome Echigo beer on the way home and zoned out till I ate a restorative giant ramen. I lived on ramen this trip: All kinds! Soya base, extra fatty pork base, fish base... Cheap, tasty and hydrating. Flying home tomorrow but this morning I had a consult with Shige and, all going well, getting a small piece from him at a convention in Europe in next while.

  3. Sunday Funday ! It started out as a planned group skydiving adventure. The weather, unfortunately, did not permit. BOO ! So my friend and I decided a quick, unplanned and for no particular reason, trip to Toronto was in order and we ended up at The Pearl Harbor Gift Shop. YAY ! I spent my skydiving money. Maybe next year lol Unlike my friend, I had no real intentions of getting tattooed today but it was kinda like 'when in Rome...' . Glad I went with it. I have wanted a panther head for a while and now I have one. Stoked ! And it's from Bill Baker flash which is really fucking cool to me. Done by Franklin Reeves. Franklin is a super nice dude. Lots of positive energy and laughs. Good times. And getting tattooed is way less dangerous than jumping out of a fucking plane ;)

  5. My boss did that to me the morning after I got my whole sternum tattooed. Gave me a massive heavy hand slap right on it. Pain was silly nasty. I suppose that's the price you pay when your boss tattoos you for free haha!

  7. Granddaughter's 6th birthday party yesterday. We noticed that "Marshall" the mule next door was in distress. We found he had a 2 1/2" infected cut on his lower leg. The owners disappear for weeks at a time so we had to call the SPCA. The poor guy can barely walk and needs immediate medical care.

  8. Hello, my name is Chris hailing from the Toronto, ON area. I'm an apprentice, 8 months in, at a small shop west of the city. Finally decided to join the site after lurking for quite some time. The site has been really helpful and insightful for me, and I'm excited to share my work and thoughts with everybody here. Here are some sheets I have painted this year. Thanks for looking!

    Upcoming Tattoos

I survived my first appointment! Though I'll admit it was rough: 4+ hours and the last hour was about 10 times harder than the first hour. From now on, 2 hours sessions will be more my speed. I still have one more session to finish shading in early October, and then I have to figure out what to do next. Add to this back piece, which was designed to be added to, or put something in a more visible location? The only thing I regret about this piece is that it's not easy for me to see it - that's the trouble with backs...

  10. Update to this post. More things have come to light. There was no tattoo parlor. The students got tattoos in a hotel room under the watch of the teacher. So I am glad I got my daughters blood tested. But we have to wait 6 months since the blood was taken so soon after the tattoo.I did not pursue this with the school board. Other parents did and the teacher is being investigated. I don't like seeing people lose their jobs. But this "free spirit" teacher obviously has no limits.

  13. I finally got around to taking a pic of ol' Tigger. Not exactly my best photo work. When I walk or ride, the muscle movement makes him give a little pelvic thrust!

  14. This was next to my step daughter's house in the very funky San Leon area, birthplace of the Bandidos MC. Mrs. T and I spoke with the other neighbors and realized that if we didn't do something, Marshall would continue to suffer and possible die if untreated (she's a nurse and I'm a retired firefighter/medic). It wasn't even a choice. This also keeps the step daughter out of the line of fire if the next door property/mule owner get pissed off since they will likely face a fine.

  19. Many years ago I think I may have been particular, but in the end...man, it was just all about the coverage. Power lines, bold, slam the fucker in. A crocodile over the ribs you say? Sounds good to me. A pipe smokin' wizard smacked on the side of the neck? Fuck yeah. But in saying that, after years of being tattooed by the one person, he just knew what suited me as much as I did.

  20. Here's my Tim Beck iris. He's super tall, so this is a little wonky angle maybe, but he filled that weird spot just perfectly. Freedom Ink is a super cool shop, very chill, very neat, and we listened to Bowie all day. Oh, modesty napkin ;)

  21. Yikes! - - - Updated - - - I remember talking about tattoos 15 years ago at my Dad's house. He has an old one on his shoulder from the navy, circa 1954. My wife just got a small traditional rose (her deceased mother's name was "Rose") and I already had two. My conservative brother then blurts out, "Only bikers and whores have tattoos." You could hear a pin drop. My wife was about to jump his shit when I jump in and say, "Well, it looks like we'll need to buy you a Harley since you sure aren't a whore." I gave him the stink eye. My sister even came to her rescue saying, "I have eye liner tattooed to my eyelids and I'm no whore." My brother backed down and stayed that way. Dick move was called out.

  22. my 7yo nephew: "Uncle Eric, why do you have a Chinese guy on your back?" "Uncle Eric, do you have a tattoo on your bum?" "Uncle Eric, I'm gonna get a tattoo like you. Like a Metal Mulisha tattoo. Or maybe Fox Racing." ...don't worry kiddo, Uncle Eric will set you straight when you're old enough ;)

  25. I went in last night to fill in the last building on spidey, and the small empty gap on top of my shoulder was getting to him so we decided to put Wasp, Antman's wife, in the gap. Sorry for the redness.

  27. Well, now that PAX is over and I've had two days to sleep it off, I can get around to doing internet stuff. @beez and I had a super fun time hanging out at Liberty a bit ago, because we decided we should probably go and get tattoos. Here is mine, by Christopher Ayalin: Good times! Spent PAX wandering around the exhibition hall feeling like the leg of my jeans on that side was full of mosquitoes, though. Ha.

  28. Spent some fun time with the twin grandsons last weekend. They just turned 6. I finally have had time to really enjoy the new acoustic, a Taylor 522 12-fret mahogany. It is by far the nicest guitar I've ever owned or will ever own. It sounds angelic to my ears. :)

  29. Well, I finally quit my job of 9 1/2 years. Some may say that is stupid but the stress level was taking a toll on me. The last year was hell and not getting a raise in 4 years was eating away at me. Still living with my grandparents who have raised me, I have to take care of them. But when i'd get home, I wouldn't "de-stress" and would still be in a shitty mood, which isn't fair or nice to them. I made plans to quit and had tons of back-up plans set up. Two of my back up plans actually worked. I got a full scholarship to grad school which I applied for back in March. So Now I work on campus 18 hours a week and get a small hourly wage but my tuition is 100% paid. Also, my friend purchased a business and immediately had me work with her. We deliver drinks like soda or snapple in NYC twice a week. Starting out, I told her to pay me very very little just to get the ball moving in her court. After about 8 months, is when I'm going to start making some decent money. all in all, I am working less hours. Making more money (in 8 months). Tuition is getting paid. Thursdays and weekends off. stress level is at zero. Started going to the gym more. I am emotionally on cloud 9.

  34. Got this from Hector Fong yesterday at Tattoo 13. Always wanted something from him, and walk-in Saturday showed up, when I had some extra cash. I took this photo at BART. Looked like a weirdo, but sunlight makes for easier tattoo photo's, I've found. Rad tattoos, everyone. Keep up the good work.
