  1. Some of you have already seen this, but we finished my back yesterday. Some of it is still fresh and angry, so I'll get better pictures when it's healed and settled in. Dave Cummings at PSC Tattoo in Montreal did this. Dave is the man, get tattooed by him.

  3. Well, now that PAX is over and I've had two days to sleep it off, I can get around to doing internet stuff. @beez and I had a super fun time hanging out at Liberty a bit ago, because we decided we should probably go and get tattoos. Here is mine, by Christopher Ayalin: Good times! Spent PAX wandering around the exhibition hall feeling like the leg of my jeans on that side was full of mosquitoes, though. Ha.

    A Belated Introduction

A belated hello LST! I’ve been posting here for over a year, but I realized that I never did the obligatory introductory post. So here goes... I’m a female, in my late 50s. I started getting tattooed kind of late, around when I turned 50, when my husband suggested I get a tattoo because he thought it would be attractive. I was reluctant, but finally said “what the heck! It will be an adventure, and he will be happy. I’ll get one, and that will be it.” So I got a well-hidden tattoo. I loved it, and wanted another. I was hooked! I wanted another one, and then more and more. I now have eight, including half sleeves, and I’m thinking about a back piece. I’m otherwise pretty conventional, and work in a professional business setting, and have something of a mental block about showing my tattoos in public, even though I love, love, LOVE them. Old lessons are hard to unlearn, and I fear being judged or stereotyped. LST folks have given me support, and partly as a result of that, It hink I’m getting to a point where I can more comfortably go public with my ink. I joined LST because I have no, none, zero, zip friends (except my husband) with whom I can share my tattoo enthusiasm. I really like being part of the tattooed community, among people who are accepting, supportive, and enthusiastic about tattooing, people who “get it,” who know what it is like to feel the needle, understand the near addictive attraction, and have stories and experiences to share. I love to talk about tattoos and tattooing. I love being tattooed, it matters a lot to me. It is an essential part of who I am now, both physically and mentally. LST is my outlet!

  8. My consult with Horitomo was on Wed! So fantastic - couldn't believe how fast he knocked out the dragon sketch. My first tattoo appt is Dec 26 from 2 to 7. Don't know if I can sit on the floor that long, but I know I can sit for the tattoo that long. So excited, also.

  9. So, I've been very happy with the stuff my local guy, Jereme Galloway, has done for me and I noticed he has a bunch of stuff drawn up and just hanging on the wall. I'm thinking for my next one I just might tell him to grab something from his pile that he has really been wanting to put on someone and do that. Am I crazy? All his shit is great so I don't think I could go wrong, and if it something he has been wanting to do he could be super into it.

  10. As someone who is new to LST but not to tattoos, I can really relate to what you are saying. My wife has only one on her hip that can't normally be seen and now wants a few flowers on her upper back/shoulder, which I think will be beautiful. We both work in conservative places and no one there knows we have any ink. We're both in our 50's. I'm considering a pair of irezumi half sleeves, however. The lower edges will be visible at work and I no longer care!

  11. My new pieces by Victor over last 2 days, he is bored shitless with faces, eyes etc so we tried some dotwrok and a little towards bio. He made the girl/demon face light to try and contrast Robert Hernandez's far too dark skull. He worked super fast, first day 5 hours, today 6 hours. :) We also had a funny convo about my back piece. He said when I had the Jesus done he had no clue I wanted my whole back done, nor did I. He said he would have done things a lot differntly had he known that, so we have now booked 2 more sessions as he wants to go rght over my back and change as much stuff as is possible to flow better and improve it, to me its fine lol Pics taken on my phone with my arse red raw lol Anyhow sorry for the arse shot again and I also covered the hanging penis nudity part :P

    Too fast?

For what it's worth, I wish I'd gone larger for my first one, and it goes from my shoulder to nearly my elbow on the outside of my arm. I put a lot of effort into finding the right artist and the right idea for that one (it's a Necronomicon done by Seth Wood) and I love the result but if I'd known that I was going to end up pretty much covered anyway I would have given him my whole arm. It's cool though, tattoos are a learning process and I've managed to get some great tattoos by equally great people around that one.

    Upcoming Tattoos

This time next week my torso should be all done. Going up to Nagaoka city to Tomo's new studio, Silk Needle Tattoo. Looking forward to it, insofar as I ever look forward to sessions on my front. I'll be sad to be finished as it gave me a great excuse to visit Japan regularly. 14. thanks. I really gotta give tons of credit to my artist, Clint Cummings, as for the most part it has been his vision from the get go. This all started as a cover up and now I can't stop. He's done a nice job tying everything together and part of the excitement is showing up and having no clue what's going to go down. I went in last night to fill in the last building on spidey, and the small empty gap on top of my shoulder was getting to him so we decided to put Wasp, Antman's wife, in the gap. Sorry for the redness.

@Lance - No, I'm getting the dragon on my left arm from wrist to shoulder - we had a little language difficulty at first as I asked for the dragon to be "joyful". We settled on "happy", although from Horitomo it doesn't matter as I'm honored to just be able to be tattooed by him. Lance: "@peaceridge remind me again, are you getting your back done?"

Nice @SeeSea. I like how you have an ocean themed back piece and now your cat tattoo will have seafood as a link. That's going to be pretty exciting for you to see it the day you arrive. Can't wait to see it. I should probably mention I had my consult with Horitomo too. In October. My appointment is February 28th. I'm getting a pair of nekomata in my armpits. I also agree w/ @peaceridge. Horitomo sketches and brings subjects to life quickly. It humbled me to see just how fast he took an idea and scribbled seemingly random lines, and a few strokes later those lines formed a concrete image. I was worried my idea for armpits wouldn't work, and I think initially he may have been hesitant too. But he sat me down, and we talked about ideas, and he sketched while we talked and in the end what I saw had/has me super excited. @peaceridge remind me again, are you getting your back done?

    Full Back Piece Thread

I don't think I ever posted a photo of my back in here. Its not entirely finished but we don't get to work on it too much. Done by my boss Jedidia Reid here in San Antonio Texas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. i love doing that - more and more i have evolved to giving the artist the freedom to do what they like - picking from their flash or just giving a general idea and letting them do their thing - if you like and trust that artist - it makes the process quite fun for both parties i think

You have a good memory! Yes, My appointment with Horitomo is September 23 and I will join you in the club. They don't offer you to see a sketch until 2 days prior but I am coming in from out of town and they are closed the day before my appointment. So I won't see it until I actually go in for the tattoo. :-( But Molly said I couldn't really change anything anyway except for minor things like color, so I'm hoping he just knocks it out of the park the first try! We talked about it in some detail, and I think I know the picture I sent that will be the cat's face and expression, and my cat loved her shrimp sushi, so I know they will have considered something like the Sushi Cat print. I am getting excited!

    Where to post

Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry about that I am glad I asked before posting about machines. I didn't realize this forum was mostly geared for fans of tattoos I thought it was more for tattooers. Its a bit confusing that there is a topic for people to buy and sell tattoo machines but not allowing asking for opinions or feedback about machines. Yes Joe is correct I've been tattooing professionally since 1994. I posted some pics a couple years back on my profile of my work so you can rest assure I am not trying learn how to tattoo here. Thanks for not attacking me , My bad I will re-read the forum rules and policies. Have a good night Cheers

  24. I have a tattoos on my upper arms, and it works just fine! In fact, I've said it before elsewhere (maybe even in this thread, but I'm too lazy to look), but tattooing made me finally feel comfortable in t-shirts. My weight has been terrible the last couple of years, and though I made a lot of headway with my recent training, I'm still overweight. I used to be tiny, so my awareness of my extra weight sticks with me throughout the day. T-shirts used to make that worse. It's very draining to be constantly aware throughout the day of something about yourself that makes you uncomfortable, so I avoided them a lot. I don't do that anymore, though, because all of my feelings about my arms are positive now. I mean...I'm not guaranteeing that everybody will instantly feel comfortable with themselves after getting a tattoo, but for me personally, it has helped. It was like planting a flag on my own body, or something. Hard to describe. Tattooing has me appreciating my physique. It's more real estate to put beautiful tattoos on. Haha! :o (This is actually a thing, though. Having more room to work with can mean having even more concepts for tattoos open to you on certain body parts!

  28. Got a few more hours in on my custom dragon chest piece! So close to being finished but so stoked on how it's come together. London Reese is a pleasure to get tattooed by. Very easy going and cool to talk to. The shop is great, everyone there is a really friendly, cool, and talented as hell. After this last session, I now understand why some people say the chest sucks. 15hrs down so far, only a little bit more to go.

  37. My name is Joakim and my second name starts with a M too, so it's mmikaoj backwards. I registred somewhere a long time ago, having to add the extra m since just mikaoj was allready taken. It stuck since it's easy to remember and looks like gibberish to any non-scandinavian without a mirror.

  38. I'll add a little something that may be useful but not likely an eye opener. As a former bike racer who has had many nasty roadrash injuries over 3 decades, as well as a retired paramedic, the key to minimal scarring/best healing is to keep the damaged skin moist during the first 4 to 5 days of healing. Tegaderm/Saniderm is always a great bet. Does this sound familiar? A fresh tattoo is similar to roadrash in the way the body reacts to it, just not as traumatic. Protecting it under the moist membrane allows everything to heal without drying out and scabbing, which we should always avoid.

  39. Back in the old days of competitive online gaming, everyone I played against had names like Xxsn1per_k1ll3rxX and shit like that, I wanted something as boring as possible so I just chose the first thing I saw, and just kept it forever. Occasionally get called hardon, don't care.

  40. Honestly, I think the apprehension and not-knowing before getting your first one is about 1000x worse than anything you'll experience afterward...because while, yeah, it does hurt, for the most part it's a known quantity and you know sorta what to expect. At least, that's how it has been for me. We were joking last night at Liberty about how we get wussier with every tattoo we get, because the first few you're like 'I'm gonna tank this like a champ! There's no way I'm gonna wuss out! BRING IT ON!' by #6 it's like 'oh god damnit here we go again' and you kinda whine about it a little more. That said, I think the fact that most people who get tattooed go back for more of the same is an indication that it's totally worth it in pretty much every way. :) To stay on-topic: lower leg tattoo presents fresh challenges, like my cats trying to rub on my legs, and one of my cats LICKED IT WITH HIS FILTHY CAT MOUTH EW. Should be fun walking around PAX with this thing healing. Woooo
