Well, now that PAX is over and I've had two days to sleep it off, I can get around to doing internet stuff. @beez and I had a super fun time hanging out at Liberty a bit ago, because we decided we should probably go and get tattoos. Here is mine, by Christopher Ayalin: Good times! Spent PAX wandering around the exhibition hall feeling like the leg of my jeans on that side was full of mosquitoes, though. Ha.4 points -

My new pieces by Victor over last 2 days, he is bored shitless with faces, eyes etc so we tried some dotwrok and a little towards bio. He made the girl/demon face light to try and contrast Robert Hernandez's far too dark skull. He worked super fast, first day 5 hours, today 6 hours. :) We also had a funny convo about my back piece. He said when I had the Jesus done he had no clue I wanted my whole back done, nor did I. He said he would have done things a lot differntly had he known that, so we have now booked 2 more sessions as he wants to go rght over my back and change as much stuff as is possible to flow better and improve it, to me its fine lol Pics taken on my phone with my arse red raw lol Anyhow sorry for the arse shot again and I also covered the hanging penis nudity part :P4 points -

You have a good memory! Yes, My appointment with Horitomo is September 23 and I will join you in the club. They don't offer you to see a sketch until 2 days prior but I am coming in from out of town and they are closed the day before my appointment. So I won't see it until I actually go in for the tattoo. :-( But Molly said I couldn't really change anything anyway except for minor things like color, so I'm hoping he just knocks it out of the park the first try! We talked about it in some detail, and I think I know the picture I sent that will be the cat's face and expression, and my cat loved her shrimp sushi, so I know they will have considered something like the Sushi Cat print. I am getting excited!3 points -

A belated hello LST! I’ve been posting here for over a year, but I realized that I never did the obligatory introductory post. So here goes... I’m a female, in my late 50s. I started getting tattooed kind of late, around when I turned 50, when my husband suggested I get a tattoo because he thought it would be attractive. I was reluctant, but finally said “what the heck! It will be an adventure, and he will be happy. I’ll get one, and that will be it.” So I got a well-hidden tattoo. I loved it, and wanted another. I was hooked! I wanted another one, and then more and more. I now have eight, including half sleeves, and I’m thinking about a back piece. I’m otherwise pretty conventional, and work in a professional business setting, and have something of a mental block about showing my tattoos in public, even though I love, love, LOVE them. Old lessons are hard to unlearn, and I fear being judged or stereotyped. LST folks have given me support, and partly as a result of that, It hink I’m getting to a point where I can more comfortably go public with my ink. I joined LST because I have no, none, zero, zip friends (except my husband) with whom I can share my tattoo enthusiasm. I really like being part of the tattooed community, among people who are accepting, supportive, and enthusiastic about tattooing, people who “get it,” who know what it is like to feel the needle, understand the near addictive attraction, and have stories and experiences to share. I love to talk about tattoos and tattooing. I love being tattooed, it matters a lot to me. It is an essential part of who I am now, both physically and mentally. LST is my outlet!2 points

i love doing that - more and more i have evolved to giving the artist the freedom to do what they like - picking from their flash or just giving a general idea and letting them do their thing - if you like and trust that artist - it makes the process quite fun for both parties i think2 points -

So, I've been very happy with the stuff my local guy, Jereme Galloway, has done for me and I noticed he has a bunch of stuff drawn up and just hanging on the wall. I'm thinking for my next one I just might tell him to grab something from his pile that he has really been wanting to put on someone and do that. Am I crazy? All his shit is great so I don't think I could go wrong, and if it something he has been wanting to do he could be super into it.2 points -

I also don't think it's THAT bad. It's also very cover-able. That said:- The fact that the teacher offered to pay to have it 'fixed' suggests to me he knows he screwed up. I find it a little odd that he went with them to the shop when they got these tattoos ... and I second noting that it looks like it's in a fairly intimate spot? Was the teacher hanging around? Creepy if so. Overall, really poor judgment - legal or not. If my kid was 18 I would tell him he was an idiot, but at that age I think it's pretty much adulthood: Big boy rules. If he was 17 or younger, yeah, it's a little arbitrary, but I'd be considering taking it further with that teacher's school.2 points

Seeing other people enjoying tattoos can be fun, too. I encourage you to attend a tattoo convention and see how much fun others have sharing their art. Statistically, a good many of the people that you meet daily have art on their skin. Some may surprise you. I've found that visible ink encourages them to discuss theirs. I have yet to have anyone say a disparaging remark about mine. So many have friends or family (or themselves secretly) with ink that even in small-town America it is usually no problem.1 point

A Belated Introduction
cltattooing reacted to The Tig for a topic
As someone who is new to LST but not to tattoos, I can really relate to what you are saying. My wife has only one on her hip that can't normally be seen and now wants a few flowers on her upper back/shoulder, which I think will be beautiful. We both work in conservative places and no one there knows we have any ink. We're both in our 50's. I'm considering a pair of irezumi half sleeves, however. The lower edges will be visible at work and I no longer care!1 point -

Where to post
SeeSea reacted to Jeff Tarinelli for a topic
Thanks for clearing that up. Sorry about that I am glad I asked before posting about machines. I didn't realize this forum was mostly geared for fans of tattoos I thought it was more for tattooers. Its a bit confusing that there is a topic for people to buy and sell tattoo machines but not allowing asking for opinions or feedback about machines. Yes Joe is correct I've been tattooing professionally since 1994. I posted some pics a couple years back on my profile of my work so you can rest assure I am not trying learn how to tattoo here. Thanks for not attacking me , My bad I will re-read the forum rules and policies. Have a good night Cheers1 point -

Bitter-sweet, eh? Enjoy that last session. I was on a cloud going into my last session and I thought, "Hells, I'm so far in and so high on a cloud (not recreationally-induced) that this isn't gonna hurt as badly the last session." Well, not really. :D But it certainly helped my spirits deal with it a little better. ENJOY! I can't wait to see it done!1 point

I have a tattoos on my upper arms, and it works just fine! In fact, I've said it before elsewhere (maybe even in this thread, but I'm too lazy to look), but tattooing made me finally feel comfortable in t-shirts. My weight has been terrible the last couple of years, and though I made a lot of headway with my recent training, I'm still overweight. I used to be tiny, so my awareness of my extra weight sticks with me throughout the day. T-shirts used to make that worse. It's very draining to be constantly aware throughout the day of something about yourself that makes you uncomfortable, so I avoided them a lot. I don't do that anymore, though, because all of my feelings about my arms are positive now. I mean...I'm not guaranteeing that everybody will instantly feel comfortable with themselves after getting a tattoo, but for me personally, it has helped. It was like planting a flag on my own body, or something. Hard to describe. Tattooing has me appreciating my physique. It's more real estate to put beautiful tattoos on. Haha! :o (This is actually a thing, though. Having more room to work with can mean having even more concepts for tattoos open to you on certain body parts!1 point

hey @kvaz... i think you have at least three other threads for this same issue. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-advice/6905-can-you-add-white-already-exsisting-purple-black-tattoo-lighten-parts.html#post120159 http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-advice/6904-looking-artist-who-can-tattoo-over-black-blue-purple.html http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/initiation/6896-looking-tattoo-help.html#post120137 be patient, listen to the advice that is given, and the answers will present themselves. my advice... Fremont is not part of the Bay Area tattoo mecca. look into the list of shops given in one of the other three threads. take a deep breath. it'll be all good! oh... and try to keep the same topic to one thread. ;)1 point

So here's a long overdue update on my back. its coming along...Unfortunatley life gets in the way and I wont be back for more work until mid November and I'll have to book some more appointments soon for december and into the new year. Getting tattoed at a convention - safe or not?
SeeSea reacted to Margarita Yaschenko for a topic
I got a tattoo, and I made them to other people at festivals. Problems never was. If tattooist to observe sanitary rules and monitors the safety clean and that no problems will be. Workplace tattoo is that it is safe to prepare and no matter it is in the studio or at the convention. I think that getting a tattoo at the festival is cool and interesting)1 point -

Well, that could be worse. If she likes it now, great; if she wants it covered or redone later, that looks doable too. Fingers crossed everything was sterile. This sounds like awful judgment on the part of the teacher. Most of my friends and family who teach at a HS level feel they need to be pretty cautious these days. (I guess this is another conversation entirely, though.)1 point -
The health risks of tattooing is something many people take for granted as tattoos become more popular and accessible. Perhaps even more serious collectors can get too comfortable getting their tattoos made. I have a buddy who gets tattooed regularly in Cuba where it is still somewhat illegal. That's risky business, however he's experienced and a grown-ass man, understands, accept and can identify risky conditions. Like how bad of a tattoo? Buddy's portfolio looks fairly generic but not kitchen-scratcher quality. A shitty tattoo does not need to be fixed...I say let your 17yo live with the visible reminder of a bad decision and let her deal with the consequences in the future i.e. let her deal with a cover-up or laser of a dumb teenage mistake. Does she like the tattoo The Belize shop (from website and facebook photos) looks fairly clean and legit, cleaner than getting tattooed at a tattoo convention. Does your kid have the Hep A/B TwinRx vaccination? If they do (which they should if they are travelling), likely nothing to worry about. But if you want to turn this into a teaching moment, put the kid through the process of getting a blood test (is that expensive in the US?). It will smarten her up for the future and teach her about the health risks of tattooing and other risky behaviours. You'd think though with the quality work her mom wears she wouldn't have been a dumb teenager...but hey I'm sure we've all got caught in the moment about the youth. That is bizarre about the teacher though and pretty poor leadership on his part. Not sure what to comment about that.1 point
