  2. Whatever date you get the tattoo...your first at that...will become significant in it's own right. I got my first tattoo on May 6, 2003...a week after my last university exam, 3 days before my birthday. May 6th is now a really important date for me which I celebrate every year. Just this last May, I broke my 200hr mark on the anniversary of my first tattoo 12 years ago :)

    Upcoming Tattoos

Can't wait for Friday. I know I said it before, but Scott Sylvia at Pagoda City. If I have time, I may also snag something from my local regular artist, Keith Reed, who will also be there.

  4. Prettyyyyyyyyy pumped about this one, not gonna lie. Yesterday: There's a vid too: https://instagram.com/p/5075TDTBNR/?taken-by=greggletron By Greg Whitehead at Scapegoat in Portland, as usual. My thigh feels like a wobbly hot water bottle today, and I don't even care. :o

  6. Got the itch this weekend and scored a walk-in with Gus Martinez at Ocean Ave Tattoo. I really dig his pin-ups, they're very Nagel-esque:

    Showing Off

I know. These tattoos are left arm tattoos. My right arm is for a composed, single piece half sleeve, if I ever find the right artist. I did find a few dresses that do go the other way, and there are always the adjustable halters too. I've never been a fan of strapless before, but I could see myself doing it now.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I'll be seeing Tim Beck in September. This is my first real wait for it appointment. (Not that six weeks is such a long wait!)

  10. I've actually never heard of the date you get tattooed having special meaning. You should focus more on the artist and the design. If both of those are right, then the day you get tattooed will be special.

    Apprentice Drawings

I would say that technique aside I'd be really bummed if any of those were on me, but the truth is if you showed me your drawings I'd refuse to be tattooed by you so it's a moot point. @CultExciter offered you excellent advice above. Those people would be a lot better off with some simple Sailor Jerry flash because at least it would be drawn correctly. Trace classic flash. Take up drawing from life to understand how things work and go together. Always use reference. Traditional style should be about taking objects and distilling them down to their essence: look at Scott Sylvia's roses. They're simple but they fully capture the elegance and beauty of a rose. Work hard to draw like that.

  20. Here's my refreshed 18 year old hand-poke, my daughter drew the butterfly and I had it put next to her name in honor of her 18th birthday. Problem is I have a younger daughter, so to keep with tradition I've got to get her name as well! This is fresh, there's a gross one-week old pic on the "'derm" aftercare thread. Thanks!

  24. Got this from Greg Christian at Tattoo Faction about a month ago and these from Tomas Garcia at Old Soul last weekend. all stolen from their IGs @Gregchristian4130 and @tomas_garcia I used to complain about not being in a great tattoo city like NYC, but being a 2 hour drive from cleveland and pittsburgh isn't really too bad.

  37. I've just returned home from a trip to Berlin. Brought this one home with me: Done by Uncle Allan at Conspiracy Inc, Berlin. I'm pretty excited about this one. A rose by Allan has been on my wishlist for a loooong time, so it's amazing to finally check it off the list. (Picture respectfully borrowed from Allan's IG account: http://instagram.com/unclea)

  38. Finished the majority of my sleeve with Gre Hale at Rain City, Manchester, UK. Extremely happy with it, Gre is an awesome bloke, and the shop is great; packed to the brim with talented artists and character. What do you guys think? Just the 'pinchy' inner bicep to go.

  40. My frog looks so much better now! I got him originally in 1998 so he was 17...not sure how old that is in frog years but he's way cuter now. He even has freckles!! I let Dominic pick all the colors, and we discussed where we're going next w/the expansion-I told him he has free reign for design and colors and he was pretty stoked about that.

  44. From last Saturday at Great Lakes Tattoo in Chicago Nick Colella -big-ass eagle (chest) Mario Desa - rose of no mans..tribute (ankle) Frank Willian - pocket knife filler (inner arm ditch) It was a good day.... besides getting 3 killer tattoos, I got to hang out and bullshit with Chad Koeplinger and Robert Ryan and the rest of the GLT crew plus it was Robert Ryan's "The Radiant Name" art opening downstairs. GLT is probably the nicest shop I've ever been in and everybody was super nice and fun.....

  46. Everything is borrowed. The idea of restricting symbols, art, style, food, music, religion, etc. to the original blood lines of the culture feels more racist than "cultural appropriation". Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
