Got this from Chad Koeplinger last night in DC. Sorry the pics are shitty, it's still really swollen and bruised.

Booked in with Valerie Vargas for an Ed Hardy tiger head in early September.

These four are on my great-uncle Boots, who served in the Royal Canadian Navy. First two are on his upper arms and were done in 1949 in a street booth "by some 19 year-old kid in Pompey, England". Google tells me that means Southampton. The second two larger ones are on his forearms and were done in Victoria, BC. Artist unknown. Within the same year, I believe. All of his kids' names are in/around the tattoos.

I'm bothered by it sometimes. We all have our own boundaries. An Indian Headdress, for example, is a tattoo I would not wear. I have no intention of calling out someone who would as I don't know their relationship with that imagery. I really like Ganesha as a tattoo image but will probably not have it done because I don't know enough about the meaning. I might get Isis someday as she has mostly fallen off as a current god. Perhaps she will come back someday. My daughter could use a god created in her image to look up to. Like many people I struggle with consistency. The only caution I would have for all of us, myself included, is to not give tattoos a free pass on some of these kinds of issues just because we like tattoos. It's an easy trap to fall into.

Check out this short video on one of my favorite tattooers (featuring another favorite, Bob Roberts): I've said before that Matt has a bit of a Big Liebowski vibe, but now I realize that that comes across as a bit unkind (or at the very least, sells him short). He's both passionate and compassionate, and that comes through in this piece.

@sophistre, I don't think so? I generally wait to post anything in there until it's healed, but I don't believe that's a requirement.

My family reunion was this past week. I made sure to get some shots of the tattoos on my great uncles. These would be some of the first tattoos I remember seeing as a child. These are on my Uncle Jerry. Done in Vancouver, BC in 1941 by Steve Robertson*. My uncle was 15 years old, and was working on the Building and Rail gang of the CN Railway. One night they got into a bottle of wine, the older guys told him he was going to get tattoos, and he went along with it. They cost $1.25 each. * My uncle says these were done in a shop by an artist of that name. Has anyone heard of him? There is a Canadian tattoo history thread I have yet to read through fully, I will check there too. First is a heart with an arrow+banner, "Father" and "Mother" above and below. Second is an anchor, kind of tough to read nowadays as it's quite small.

I DEFINITELY notice this. Especially if I'm riding my bike in a tank top or something. It BURNS! I freak out!! - - - Updated - - - We will figure something out! Oh definitely. When the sun shines directly on my lower leg tattoos in midday, it gets uncomfortably hot really fast. They're relatively new tattoos, though, so I'm not sure if this'll change as the pigment migrates. I also tend to use chemical sunscreens, so I dunno if a good layer of zinc-based sunscreen would make a difference or not. I find it more comfortable to wear pants in the heat now.

just read this whole thread this shop is on my list for the fall leaning towards an appointment with dan or eli but honestly probably would like to get tattooed by any and all of the smith st artists in the future was recently getting tattooed @ electric during a traditional flash weekend event and was right next to bert (and robert ryan) while getting tattooed by sheila marcello which was pretty cool

every tattoo has a penis hidden in it.

Now I think I want an exploding brain tattoo. It'll be so next level when they ask what it means...

Got this Rollo eagle on Sunday. Done by Steve Goodspeed at Gold Rush Tattoo in Costa Mesa, CA. I'll be going back in a few weeks once it heals for a bit thicker of an outline.

Already some tough stuff this month, but I'll give it a shot. Here's my arm from Grez at Kings Avenue. All healed up.

Should really have thrown this in over the last couple of months but i'm a lazy fucker, so here it is now. By Marius Meyer, completed in May of this year (started in December of last).

This is my latest tattoo. Done by my girlfriend, on me, after I tattooed her. The technical application obviously needs some work, but I think she did ok for the first time running a machine. Haha.
