  2. I thought "looks like a sticker" was a compliment? Example "that tattoo is so clean, crisp, and bold it looks like a sticker"

  3. Freddy Corbin put my son's name on me last night. Simple, tasteful, and just right. I'm so happy with it.

  4. I use the 10/10 rule. If you probably not going to be able to tell what it is in 10 years from 10 feet away, then it's too small

  5. If you get it as a tattoo it will look like a tattoo and not a sticker.

    Preferred tebori styles

I dunno, i saw a tebori piece on someone's kneecap that was 4 years old, and still the brightest, sharpest sky blue I've ever seen. It genuinely looked like it was a month old still.

    Upcoming Tattoos

Ha! You know, as laid back as I've been about going into things half-blind and just seeing what happens, I don't think I could do that with a back piece. We've been tossing around rough ideas about that, though. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk

  9. It was a blast, but we didn't get all the shots I wanted because there was a double booking. I will go back to get the traditional 3-panel back piece shot for my tattoo artist in a couple weeks when these pics are ready to view. Also got a very nice head shot out of the deal. I probably won't post much here, but I'll DM folks when I get some shots back to share.

  10. Get small tattoos in small areas of the body so they don't look like they're drowning in a sea of flesh. Or put them between big tattoos.

  12. Got this from Greg Christian at Tattoo Faction about a month ago and these from Tomas Garcia at Old Soul last weekend. all stolen from their IGs @Gregchristian4130 and @tomas_garcia I used to complain about not being in a great tattoo city like NYC, but being a 2 hour drive from cleveland and pittsburgh isn't really too bad.

  13. You guys are amazing so I thought I better give you all an update on how I'm feeling about the tattoo and in general! The past month has been a bit up and down for me personally so Sick is totally right, I have a few things to start to sort out. And some lessons to learn. I agree with Hands On as well that I wish the fox didn't warp around as much, but you are all right to say that I need to learn a lesson from the whole experience and just learn to love it. Which I wouldn't say I'm at "love" yet but I'm starting to feel really cool and have had some good and bad reactions to the tattoo and am starting to take both in stride. And the main thing from the fox is that I want to get more tattoos! So it's not diminished my passion for ink. To address some of your questions. I went in with a totally different design and the artist suggested origami and I suggested a fox. Foxes have meaning for me and my best friend lives in Japan so origami does too. The fox is in that place on my arm because I have a scar represented a bad time in my life and I wanted it covered for about 2 years but never could decide on exactly what to get. I do like to trust the artists because I don't see myself as a creative person, but this is difficult because I am not a heavily inked person so by no means an expert. That's why I'm glad to have found you guys. Anyway, that was a bit rambling. But thank you all for your honesty and for your help and advice. I will take it to heart, and it means a lot to me when people tell it like it is. So thank you again. Xx Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  14. Basically this. At 20, I would definitely have hesitated, and probably stayed above the elbow. I'm turning 34 this year, I'm financially secure and settled into a profession that allows me to work at home, I live in an area of the country that's pretty liberal, and I've been waiting for over 15 years to get tattooed -- I really didn't think twice, to be honest. It was still nice to have a tattooer ask me if tattooing down to my wrists was okay, though. It felt nice to know it mattered to him. It was also kind of nice to know he was okay with tattooing them, because I felt like I had maybe officially crossed the line between being a plainskin noob and being A Tattooed Person. (It was Gilsdorf, if anybody's curious.) Here's a funny tidbit, though: During that appointment we were talking about the experience of getting tattooed generally, and I was laughing about how, even though I'm not very tattooed, I still find myself wringing my hands about running out of space. And Dan goes, 'I don't think you're 'not very tattooed' anymore, by civilian standards,' and I had to tell him that I think my perspective is now permanently warped by all the time I spend lurking around here, hahaha. Compared to LST's crew, I've barely even gotten started.

  16. I asked myself if I wanted sleeves badly enough that I was willing to wear long sleeve shirts during the hottest days of summer. (I was / am, so that was fine.) I don't have to depend on anyone else "accepting" anything as long as I'm willing to do that. Now, neck and hands, that would be rolling the dice.

  18. Going to get some professional pictures of my back tomorrow. You know, with drapey fabric and all - the whole statue fine art thing. To capture it before I fry my tattoo in the sun. ;)

    Trip to San Fran

if you're purchasing art, think of how to transport it. a large tube could work, depending on how much art you plan to get. with all all the shops in the Bay, you can easily go broke on this trip! Tattoo City! You might even be able to connect with Trevor for the good stuff, if you're so inclined. (IG trevor_lee_ewald) keep an eye out for what Analog has up in the gallery here. between The City and Santa Cruz, you'll likely pass San Jose. drop by State of Grace for some moichandizing. Monmon Cats, dude. i'm not even a cat person and i have half a dozen prints.

    Trip to San Fran

Blackheart always has prints, shirts stickers etc. Defintley worth a visit. Some of the guys at Spider Murphy's have prints etc but they're not usually displayed. If you go, ask to see if anyone has anything available. If you are in Santa Cruz, go to California Electric (Thad Ritchey, Herb Auerbach and Stefan Johnsson). Beautiful shop and great tattooers. O'Reillys should be on your list down there too. See if Dan Wysuph has any of his "Oh California" prints. Also, go to the mystery spot. It's great. And cheezy. But great. Finally: SF FRISCO THE CITY Enjoy!

  21. Started mine yesterday evening with Kelly Edwards. It was amazing... and much more painful than I anticipated, and he tattooed for something like 5 hours with only a short break. I was actually genuinely surprised at how hard it was. Took my breath away more than once. He tattoos fast and hard, and I am humbled and proud to even be wearing this line work, sat like a rock. Next appointment will be in August for scales on the rattlesnake and starting to shade. - - - Updated - - - Oh yeah, and did the left side, or one preferential side, hurt a LOT more than the other?

  22. Forgot to post this up last month! Instagram Dennis_Kool Hit the 'substantially complete' milestone on my Steve Batt backpiece tattoo!! A bittersweet moment. One or two maintenance/touchup sitting in the fall after I enjoy the sunburn season and let the pigments settle under the skin. I believe the plan is to re-saturate the blacks and likely hit the cherry red one more time. Also some more finer details to add the treads of the shoes to blend in the blastover. The last session (#9, for a couple of hours) began with some pen markups as Steve drew on the intricate flame pattern and planned out the blue and green gradients. It went pretty quickly however the tattooing was pretty tight so healing it was a bitch and the bruising was pretty intense. Steve also did the skin tones which is looking deadly now that everything is starting to smooth out. The only negative space in the tattoo is in the wind and water. The monk is all peachy skin tones and white ink in the pants and sleeve cuffs. A few of you have seen the full-monty r-rated version of the ebb n flow of the water below the butt crack wave. Back, butt and 1 thigh took a swift 32 hours and 9 sessions. This experience has taught me a lot, not just about tattoo, but overall life. Really pushed me to my limits. The importance of simplicity, consistency and routine, of good health, how to relax, patience, perseverence, confidence vulnerability and focus. Sounds a lot like kung fu which only makes sense with the subject matter I chose to carry. It has been a very intense journey. Shout out to Steve Batt, my guru and one of thee baaaaaaddest tattooers in the West. Made in Edmonton, AB. So yeah, I am now 210hrs, 83% of my body tattooed, the illustrated man, the colouring book, in a full tattoo suit (minus some choicey open spots for future tattoos). Coming to a beach near you to frighten your conservative parents and intrigue your impressionable teenagers! I'd say vote for me in the July 2015 Tattoo of the Month contest...buuuuuuut don't because a) I don't actually need to wear a shirt (or pants) anymore b) @CultExciter's robot tattoo is clearly going to be the underdog winner and c) maan how good are those Grez and Marius Meyer tattoos !!! Set your goals, plan the work, work the plan, "cut the shit...and now let's all get ssssserious!

    hello hello!

Here's what I've gotten over about a year, from first to last. All were done by the same artist except the last one (the dagger) which was done by Austin Maples.

  27. I love the way she talks about being able to get the tattoo lazered like it's nothing. "Oh yea, I'll just go in and get this tattoo lazered off while I drink my Latte. One easy session and no one will know I every had one." Also funny the way she seems to equate three little tattoos with being heavily tattooed. And how she gives her cousin a pass for not tattooing her neck, but gets all snotty and shitty when Dan won't do it. I think this woman has mental problems.
