Excited to be going to The Torchbearer to add to my arm soon. It's nice to be going back to someone who's already tattooed me.

    I just trolled myself!

I'm not sure what brain bug got me started on tattoos in porn this morning, but somehow I got to thinking about it, and then I thought "well, maybe there are some good tattoos out there" and navigated over to (what looks to be) a well-trafficked porn site, and typed "tattoos" in the search box. Sure enough, I see plenty of tattoos. I'm looking at this girl's thigh piece when all of the sudden: vagina! I blinked and resumed looking at the tattoos, and then: butt hole! This kept happening and annoying me for awhile before I fully realized that I was watching porn and not looking at a tattoo website. Facepalm to the nth degree, because I totally knowingly went to a porn site to look at tattoos, and then got annoyed at all the T & A ruining my tattoo experience, and then realized T & A *was* the experience, and I had just trolled myself. PS - I also read playboy for the articles. ;) <drops mic> Val out.

  10. I picked this one up today from a relatively new artist...Dakota Parker from American Classic Tattoo. I couldn't be happier with my experience or how it turned out. The lining was done with an electric and the fill was done with a rotary.

    Upcoming Tattoos

So Greg had to reschedule my appointment for this Wednesday, and that gave me time to book with @cltattooing while she's in Portland. I shifted my hotel stay over to the 29th-31st: YAY BUT, then I get a message today from Greg's assistant that he had a cancellation, so now he can get me in on the 27th. Now, I have to ask myself if I want to take a mini-vacation to Portland and get two tattoos, driving down the morning after we hike Mt. Walker, or just tell Greg I can't make it and do the sane thing instead. I never use hashtags...but in this case I think one is probably warranted. #tattooproblems

  14. Sending through a teaser of sorts . . . Just a small portion of my music themed leg-work by Hooper; The 6th and (hopefully) last session is June 1st, so I'll likely be able to post the fully completed leg sometime in July. Lower leg is healing REAL slow.

  15. I'm new here and figured I'd post some of my favorite pieces I've gotten over the last ~year or so: Aaron Hodges at Spider Murphy's did both my thighs: George Hernandez at Sacred Tiger did my forearms and bicep: http://i.imgur.com/aksalIN.jpg Jay Watkins (frog) and Laurent Trelaun (ship) at Spider Murphys: And then a couple fun ones from Jeff Rassier and Alex Petty: Hopefully this wasn't too big of a photo dump for everyone! Looking forward to upcoming consults/pieces with Paul Dobleman and Theo Mindell at Spider Murphys as well.

    Realistic tattoo

Not sure how realistic you like your realistic tattoos. Myself, the hyper-realism, and even most of the photo-realistic stuff is not my cup of tea. They look really cool, but not my style. My personal preference is toward the realism built upon a traditional "framework", for lack of a better term. Darcy Nutt is really good at tattooing what I described above - because pictures are worth way more than my crappy descriptions. One of my personal favorite artists, and a super chill lady - I hope to get more work from her one day. I think a black and grey realistic owl would be cool. Have any idea what kind of owl you want?

  20. Tattoos are most susceptible to sun damage in the first 4 weeks of healing, so you do probably need something stronger.

    Upcoming Tattoos

I need to amend my upcoming list: Yoni Zilber for a skull/dagger-knife thing, and Brian Kaneko for peonies and another bird - all in the fall because I like swimming too much in the summer. Inching towards what I wanted to do on my body tattoo-wise.

  23. @Graeme - I ditto the leaves - It really does something to the design. Which is pure awesomeness in itself. Home stretch, baby, home stretch.

  24. Yeah dude. The contrast in the maple leaves is great at drawing my eyes across the whole piece, instead of focusing too much on just the center. Looking so rad!

  29. Check out this thread I started when I was initially extremely paranoid about screwing up my back. Somewhere in this thread I did a pretty detailed analysis of sunscreens, ingredients, UVA/UVB and many some comments about types of clothing. Especially that wet T-shirts are about SPF 4 or 8. Last weekend my husband was outside all day sweating like mad in the sun and he got a sunburn. He didn't believe be because he said he was wearing a relatively thicker T-shirt. But he was pretty red. http://www.lastsparrowtattoo.com/forum/tattoo-after-care/5584-sunscreen-sun-vacation-threads.html

  32. @SeeSea @Fala +1 on loving my hips and thighs because of tattoos! so much! and I can't really speak to "aging" at this point in my life, but I know when my mom's friends saw my tattoos they were like "oohhh, I can see how that covers cellulite right up". (and in my personal experience, tattoos sure as hell do!) (also I find myself favoring my more heavily tattooed side in the mirror anyway...it's pretttttty awesome ;))

  33. @SeeSea - I've come to love my hips and thighs thanks to my tattoos. It's been an unexpected blessing. As for aging... well, I guess I'll have to wait and see what my tattoos look like when I'm old. They'll probably look old too ;)

  34. WTG Knucklehwad211! Bullies are the great, my little OE Bulldog turns 1 next week. Aren't the but wiggles just the best? Well, little punk rock girl who never participated in PE or any sport EVER besides beating up bullies and smoking under the bleachers was asked to join a soft ball league. :o Oh and am I terrible at it, but it sure is fun. I'm just glad they dont take it too seriously. You can't play if your not drinking. Funny, but I also JUST recieved an amazing job offer since I started my sleeve/1st ever tattoo. It's a very VERY conservative origination and they have seen my arm (don't care if i cover it) and still want me. LOL, I thought people with showing tattoos ruined their chances at having careers forever. :p Best part, Im not looking for a job. They came to me.

  39. @IzzyBizzy either keep it covered or use a barrier cream! something with zinc oxide or titanium oxide. badger balm makes a couple of good ones. just make sure it has those ingredients in it and it will be better than the neutrogena i think. but the best thing you can do for a tattoo that is that fresh is to keep it covered.

  40. Good question! I just read something saying new tattoos are more prone to sun damage. Maybe someone can confirm? Can you wear high neck shirts or a thin scarf when in the sun? As far as sunscreen goes, chemical sunscreens (mainstream, non organic brands usually) are said to be less effective because they penetrate the first skin layer and react with the skin in a way that can even make it more prone to skin cancer and certain sun damage. "Physical sunblock", containg Zinc Oxide for example is said to be better and healthier protection. Though many brands make your skin look chalky and the safety of Nano Zinc particles is debated. Some brands deemed fairly safe are Badger or Devita and Juice Beauty. I have used all three and Devita feels nicest when it comes to application, but it does contain Nano Zinc particles. The upside is it does not make you look chalky. Not all products with a high SPF necessarily provide good protection from UVA and UVB rays. Google Cosmetic Chemicals database, there is information about the strength of the sunscreen as well.
